  • What did you think of the voice acting?

Since there was a bit of debate over DC Douglas's Wesker, I figured now that we have all played it, it would be interesting to revisit the topic.

For me, I thought Douglas did a brilliant job. From the initial trailer bits, he just got better and better as the story went on and he had to convey various emotions. Pretty much everyone was great in the game imo. I can't really think of anyone standing out except maybe the guy who played Kirk. He sorta over annunciated some lines, making them sound forced.

Funnily enough i was just talking about this. The voice acting is easily the best in any Resident Evil game, which isn't exactly saying much but in my opinion it is still on par/better than the majority of modern games with similar budgets.

The most commendable thing for me is that every character, no matter how small their part had a dynamic and unique voice that made them recognizable but also incorporated all of the subtleties and traits of a natural human voice. Nobody sounded like they were reading from a bit of paper. A notable performance was Jill, authough she was hardly in the main game, the reunion between her and Chris felt very emotional and dramatic because of the performances from both sides. It could have easily been generic, cheesy and laughable but they pulled it off to a very filmic level.

Wasn't it Reuben Langdon who played Kirk? I'm pretty sure he did at least one of the BSAA guys.

Edit - Completely forgot to mention Irving, the voice acting for this character is obviously rather questionable but he's so completely over the top that it somehow works and fits in well with the character. An extreme makover? Jeez!

That was pretty much the point. He's mentally unstable.

i really really liked irvine's voice acting, he was completely different from anything we've had in resident evil so far, and it sort of fit his character of being a shady but smart business man who's fed up of being blamed for things

Langdon voiced the BSAA member named Dave Johnson and the cinematics director of RE 5 voiced DeChant. I think that RE 5 has easily the best voice acting in the series.

My favorite was obviously Irving. There's nothing better than listening to a raging luntic with more money than brainpower.

For Wesker, my feelings are mixed. For the most part, I thought the VA did an excellent job, others had me wanting to mute the T.V. Especially Spoiler:

I have no objections, other than the above, and the sound Sheva makes when she is hit with heavy damage. Other than all that, the VAs did an excellent job, IMHO.

I honestly think they are the series' best. Chris's did a really good job, the right side of heroic but pulled it out too during the more emotional moments with Jill and was still believable.

Wesker (Douglass) I think pulled (sorry everyone) the best performance of Wesker in any game, by not trying to imitate Waugh he brought Wesker into his own and certain lines of his are so brilliantly delivered they are a series favourite - particularly "Everyday humans come one step closer to self-destruction, I'm not destroying the world, i'm saving it.". Really brilliant.

Sheva, Irving, Excella, Stone, all brilliant, never once did any of them drop the ball. Stone's VA in particular was brilliant during the short screen time he had.

But if I could award any, I would give the VA of Jill all the praise. I was initially worried about her Umbrella Chronicles VA taking up the role again but she totally silenced me and I feel turned in (next to Chris and Wesker's roles) the best performance. When she finally comes round after Chris and Sheva save her, the emotion on display through the VA is amazing, when she softly asks Sheva to forgive her, brilliant. When she's pleading Chris to stop Wesker, it's all amazing. Wesker and Jill's VA's in this game prove how much better then can be with more time, and probably a different VA director.

The main thing I found with Irving was I disappointed by how little he was in the game. Only really 2 scenes and that was it.

I thought it was great...best voice-acting in a Resident Evil game, by far. My favorite line had to be Chris's:

The voice acting in the game was amazing. I admit I had my worries about Wesker, but I wound up being so pleased when I was done with the game. I also really loved Jill's voice. And Irving's was great in that "wow he is so not right in the head" vibe he overall gave.

                        Everybody was just awesome. ♥

i quite liked most of the voice acting, though it doesn't stand to RE's epicness. it's quite good.

                          Spoiler:

                          Wesker VA was ok to.
