I never really noticed their disappearance at all. They had zero impact initially anyway.

You aren't going to see a random typewriter in a high-tech research facility or in the middle of an African street.
It seems you care more about realism than artistic value. I don't care about realism that much. To me 'trivial' things like the typewriters are actually artistic elements that turn ordinary to interesting, and it's exactly little things like that that help create atmosphere and make a game charming and fascinating. Otherwise it's just stale. The real triviality lies in the use of too much realism in art.

P.S. The best musical piece I have ever heard has to be the save room theme from RE2. The R.P.D.'s front hall music was also so great, but nothing compares to the sounds of RE2's save theme. So simple, yet so good. Hm, same goes for Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.

Agreed, for me the best thing of re was the atmosphere, specially in the remake, the whole mansion was a one big art piece, and the police station of 2. I`m glad they not replace it with the realistic police station from 1.5. The bad thing is that all of the art and atmosphere disappear in 5, is so generic, and the game totally changed, RE was so different from other games and memorial, everything i liked is dead now, only left is pure action and visuals, things i don`t care about, because there is much more superior games in that sense.

The typewriters in the other games could have always been explained (to a degree, even though they were out of place in some situations), but having typewriters in a run down African village or a state of the art scientific facility would not work. It'd look stupid, and they are obviously starting to focus more on realism now rather than nostalgia from past entries in the series. It doesn't mean RE5 lacks art, look at the "Pray" soundtrack. It has a great OST.

I know they are focusing on realism, which is one of the main things killing the real Resident Evil. I was never into Resident Evil because it was a great realistic action game that looked perfect. There are better games than RE in terms of action and realism, and even graphics, and this is not RE's stage. But RE always had something no other game had and it's gone now.

I wouldn't mind a typewriter in the middle of the desert if you ask me. On the contrary, it would be a great quirk. It wouldn't look stupid if realism is not your main goal, and Resident Evil's main goal was never realism.

How is a typewriter an "artistic element?" It's a hunk of metal. There's no artistic value to the inclusion of a typewriter. If anything, it's a piece of nostalgia, plain & simple. That is all a typewriter adds to the atmosphere. The real atmosphere is conveyed by the music, lighting, and enemies.

I guess your idea of a "moving" atmosphere would be to hang out in a save room all day. Listen, why don't you go back and pop in RE3 and just stand in a save room and get your kicks from a typewriter?

The police station in RE2 was the worst thing of that title. Unicorn medallion, spade key, diamond key, etc. I could accept the architectual design of the Spencer Mansion for such goofy gameplay elements as specific keys for doors, but those elements are wickedly out of place in a Police Station.

I prefer "realism" anyday over corny key fetching that is not in the least bit charming. Those things ruin atmosphere.

Are you still talking about typewriters? Or Jill's brown hair? Just what is "IT" that is gone, specifically?

I feel bad for certain people's lack of imagination and completely crippled art sense. Realism in a zombie game? Okay.

I tried to avoid that many times, but it's getting intolerable. I'm running out of civilized ideas on how to make Jill's Boob shut up about me already. This is a Resident Evil forum.

You guys need to refrain from getting into fights and just accept other peoples opinion.
Oh, and, about realism, not to stir anything up, but a zombie outbreak is actually possible, maybe not in this day, but it can seriously be realistic.

It's a science fiction game and most science fiction in modern times are at least BASED on realism, something that could actually happen. That's why Resident Evil has always been scary - it's not that far away from reality, something that could actually happen. RE has never been an "art" game, it's science fiction and survival horror.

I'd like all of you to debate eachothers' ARGUMENTS and not make personal insults towards eachother, it turns good debates into a bout of mud slinging.

How exactly am I fighting or being insulting? I see something that makes me scratch my head, and offer a counter-point. Nowhere did I label or insult anyone with derogatory language.

At the very worst I am making an argument, but that is hardly a grievous offense.

I completely agree and I always try to avoid that. I just got tired of Jill's Boob's constant comments on me.

About imagination and art, and realism... A certain level of realism is needed, of course, but not to the point everything is plain. Little touches like the key designs, the typewriters, the architecture in old games, all that was artistic value. Of course it adds to the atmosphere. Atmosphere is not just about music and lighting and enemies. The environment plays a big role, since it's the portal to that different world you enter when playing a game. RE always had certain quirks and elements that really helped create that unique RE experience, and with them gone (along with other elements), RE now faces extinction.

4 million units shipped, and the game is not even a week old. What is your definition of "extinction?"
