Well in regards to CR29's post...

Chris - He just had a game but he also came off alot better and more positive then Leon did in 4. I think Capcom is overall pleased with how Chris turned out, some fans are put off by his ridiculous strength and physique now but ah well.

Jill - After 5, once the dust settles...is probably a psychological wreck. Thats vulnerability which would make for a good character to use in a game. You are stuck with what the hell do you use her for though? You cant send her off on revenge since everyone associated with those she was fighting is taken care of. Unless there is more to Tricell then we know. Although I dont agree that a game staring Jill needing Chris in it. Her two previous main roles were RE1 and RE3, in 1 Jill only worked along with Chris at the end and Chris was only mentioned in 3. He could have a presence but wouldn't need to be directly involved.

Leon - No, just no. I'd accept him into a game as a supporting character but I couldn't stomache another game with him in the main role. Hes a top government agent now obviously highly decorated for rescuing the presidents daughtler, just doesn't feel very Resident Evilish.

Claire - Id prefer her over Leon but still wouldn't be extremely interested. I think DSC ties up the Sherry storyline, if there even is one, just so there isn't anymore unanswered questions regarding Leon and Claire.

Ada - Could be interesting if they choose to explore her association with who she works for. Shes pretty bland otherwise, you can only double cross people so many times before it ends up seemingly like a poorly written spy movie character.

Side characters/unimportant characters (Billy, Rebecca, Barry, etc) - Not as main star, but EVENTUALLY it would be nice to find out what happened to them. An epilogue or game files would be nice. Billy escaped only to be mauled by a rabid raccoon on the outskirts of RACCOON city. Rebecca ran out of money and had to turn to porn. Barry mistook an Acid Grenade round for his favorite can of "fizz" soda..and died.

Now, Claire is no longer a fighter. But one day she's wondering exactly what's happened to Sherry, and can't find a trace. Not just of what happened to her during Raccoon City or after, as though she had a new identity, but nothing at all. So she contacts her special friend Leon S. Kennedy to see what he can find. And at first that's nothing. After a while, Leon S. Kennedy, being the dedicated worker type he is starts pulling the long hours, calling in favors and having sex with secretaries to get the dirt.

Sherry was grabbed by an underhanded US Agency, that transferred her to a private facility that, after more digging by Leon S. Kennedy and likely some sex, leads back to TriCell executive Excella Giovani and her partner Albert Wesker. Although both of them are gone TriCell still owns and runs the facility, and so Claire and Leon S. Kennedy head off to see what they can find about Sherry...only to have some panicked big wig unleash hell in bio-weapon form all over the compound, pissing his pants at the thought of Leon S. Kennedy approaching there secrets and his bonus. This big wig may or may not be called Wesker.

That's my suspicion, given the Darkside Chronicles that are coming up and the like, but time shall tell. Darkside would be the perfect way to introduce Sherry to the poor, blighted fools who haven't played an RE game made after 4 as well as showing that Claire can kick ass. And like as not that Leon S. Kennedy was also that awesome, knowing the power of Retcon.
THIS. Everything about your post, just yes, yes, yes. Oh, God, I get all excited and jittery just thinking about this possibility. Yes.

        Anyway though...

I know Capcom is all about "change" for RE6, but I truly hope they realize it's absolutely essential to still stick to the series roots. My #1 fear is that they will start completely anew with a blank canvas of storylines and characters. And, while I'm okay with new characters and storylines, Capcom seriously needs to understand that we need familiar characters to drive the "new" storyline in a proper direction. Introducing a completely new cast of characters would sincerely upset me, because it's the current characters we have now that makes me love the RE series so much.

Capcom can't possibly be oblivious to the fact 90% of the RE fanbase still speculates about Sherry. We mistook both Ashley in RE4 and Jill in RE5 to be Sherry, and Jun Takeuchi addressed the RE5 rumor himself in that one interview on GameTrailers.com. Certainly that alone makes Capcom realizes there is interest in the character.

There's so much flexibility with Sherry's character, too. She can either be a hero or a villain. Both possibilities are plausible, given her history. She's around the same age as many of the original main characters were when they started out, so she's certainly "young enough" to be a new heroine. And, if she were to serve the role as a villain, there's enough they can do for her that can make her appear in numerous future titles.

Although I'm hardly fond of Leon, he's certainly become Capcom's little golden child ever since the success of RE4. Even though Degeneration can be considered a conclusion for both Claire and Leon's storyline, I feel like Capcom still intends to use Leon in the games. From what I've seen, a lot of the new Leon fanboys, most of whom were specifically introduced to the series via RE4, seem to hold a grudge on RE5 for A). Not having Leon, and B). Seemingly having little ties to RE4. If Leon were to return in RE6, that throng of Leon fanboys would surely be interested in it since apparently RE5 is nothing but a big letdown to them. *rolls eyes*

I guess they could continue the whole bio-terrorism storyline with another antagonist. I mean they made it clear in Resident Evil 5, that viruses, and bio-weapons were being sold on the black market to terrorists.

Maybe Resident Evil 6 can go back to what Resident Evil 2 did. Have a virus infect a US city, and have the BSAA called in to investigate.

They could also explore Ada's story a little more, and let us learn about the organization she was working with behind Wesker's back.

Yeah, it can't possibly be because they simply enjoyed RE4 more than RE5 as a game.

Oh, that's right. Only people who have never played a Resident Evil before 4 could possibly think RE5 wasn't as good of a game as RE4. Because we all know that real Resident Evil fans think RE4 was a complete and utter abortion, and now that Shinji Mikami is no longer at Capcom, the series can get back on track and be good again.

(I will point out this rant is not aimed squarely at you, but is more general.)

I myself don't have anything against Shinji. Yes he did present us with RE4, but he did make all previous games possible. Personally I would rather Shinji return for a future installment since the original storyline has been torn apart from his own intended vision. It would be a perfect time to regroup since the next story will most likely reboot the series and start from scratch.

Good way to put it. I myself, have to admit that i liked Re4 better, i find things about it that i like better, that i find myself having liked better. Despite Re5 having some Classic enemies, a more Rezzie centered story, and some things improved over Re4, i just cant shake the feeling that i liked Re4 better. Of course, it was far more impactful then Re5, thats a given, and something Re5 couldnt have competed with unless it, as Re4 did, "revolutionized" the series. Despite liking Re4, it was just to much liek it, with only minor and , to me, trivial additions, and less of what i would have liked, and what makes Residet Evil

Re4 had shortcomings, lack of puzzles, lack of scary atmosphere, and other things, but Re5 did nothing to improve these, and in some ways, did worse. After 4 years, i thought they could improve alot more then they did, had this came out maybe 2 years after Re4, it might have lesses nthe blow, but over 4 years since we saw the first magnificent trailer, and it felt liek a reskinning of Re4, with HD, coop, a new story, and essentially, less of what many Rezzie fans wanted

its like, althouhg Re5 does what Re4 did essentially better, doesnt make it a better game. Just as other series, like , per say, the zelda series. Just because Twilight Princess improved the z targeting, ahd better graphics, longer, smarter enemies etc. doesnt make it bettert hen Ocarina, or majoras, just as an example.

This is of course all my opinion, but i have a few Rezzie fans, and when i brought this too them, they felt similar.
