But his past was far from being a "boy scout." I think the mansion incident helped him find a goal in life, and from that point forward he became a driven individual. Chris may seem like a "goody two shoes" (sorry, couldn't think of any other term at the moment) but then again...so are almost all of the other RE heroes. None of them possess dark secrets or edginess. And Chris did sort of defy his order to withdraw from Africa (the one enacted by Excella via her Tricell position) to go on a rogue mission to search for Jill. Shows that he still has a bit of "against authority" in his personality from his USAF days.

Ultimately though, RE + Capcom = poorly developed characters. Yet another reason I don't quite understand the DEEP fascination with Jill...she's just as boring as everyone else, but that is for another thread.

I understand the "buffing" for RE5 (the whole "trying to match Wesker" thing), but what I don't get is why designers make him look extremely different from game to game (except for REmake and RE: Umbrella Chronicles which I guess they used the same model for his face).
Well, from RE1 to RECV there was a drastic change. With REmake, they established the model that has progressed into what we have now. The problem is, that in REUC, it appears as if Capcom just reused the model from REmake for their "Fall of Umbrella" scenario. Chris and Jill should have aged more in the span of 5 years, but oh well. Still, from 2003 --> 2009 Chris could have packed on all that Arnold-esque mass. Now whether of not steroids or HGH played a factor, we'll never know. But considering he's a "boy scout" - I doubt it's not natural.

As for the Spencer Estate flashback...I was bummed to see that the Chris character model was still scruffy and built (though it was hard to tell since he had sleeves). I think that it'd be more believable for Chris to have dropped his freshly shaven look and slighter build after he thought Jill died. Like...he let himself go having lost his beloved partner, and feeling that he failed her. He goes into despair, doesn't shave, and hits the sauce (booze). Then there's an opportunity to see an elderly, portly Barry talk some sense into Chris. So he hits the weights to help him shape his regret into focus.

But again...Capcom + RE = simplistic storytelling devoid of such elaborate things.

There is no DEEP fascination with Jill. Simply put most people that are obsessed with her wanna fuck her. It's character lust to the highest degree.

On the topic of Chris, I've liked that he's the most realistic of all RE characters and seems a lot more down to Earth then some of the more extreme personalities like Leon and Wesker.

Yeah, Chris used to be a good character, too.

        Ah, memories.

Shirtless Chris can't fit into the frame of any modern day camera.

It will be another few decades before the technology capable of capturing his topless, titanic form is achieved.

"He's sleeping with the ultimate FAILURE." That Chris?

Well, I haven't seen Blade and I'm a big Twilight fan so yeah, I do, as a matter of fact.

And Steve...yes he's whiney but at least he's got a character. I enjoyed it, it was refreshing to see emotion in a Resident Evil game. I gave a crap when he mutated. Because of that he sticks in my memory as a good character. And he had a few bad ass moments.

And I can't stand Leon from 4 onwards.

Well, I found the emotion in Code Veronica to be flat and unintentionally hilarious, as expected from Capcom. It's one of the reasons I don't like Code Veronica that much. Maybe it's the awful English VO, I don't know.

Although the part where Steve fucks up from staring at Claire's ass is awesome.

Forgive me for asking, but was this confirmed? Or was it kind of implied by their conversation following the U-8 battle?

Yeah it was mentioned by Josh too when you first enter the caves. There was never any mention of a withdraw order up until then leading me to think it just happens inbetween the end of the Irving fight and the entrance to the caves.

Chris seemed like a whole different person then he was in previous games. Before he was all about taking out bio weapons and achieving his goal. In RE5 he became more concerned about finding his former partner. When I first played through it felt very un-Chris like. But I guess you can contribute that to his beginning dialogue where hes beginning to wonder if losing people he cares about is worth continuing his fight.

there was no withdrawl order on screen, but seeing as how nearly the entire squad bar three agents got wiped out, it'd have been the smart move to retreat and come back with more backup.

                              Original Chris:

                              vs.

                              Code Veronica Chris
                              vs.

                              REmake Chris
                              vs.

                              RE5 Chris

                              Choose now!

REmake for character design! I preferred Chris as a character in RE5 though.

I prefer the newer Chris because he looks cool. The fact that he's pixellated eye candy has nothing to do with it.

I also love REmakes and the original live action one, for the lulz and the odd red/ginger colored hair.

Oh, and why the hell is Chris wearing his STARS outfit in CV:X, it just doesn't make sense.
