  • Favourite Files?

    Simple enough topic.

In game file: The one from the Chief Researcher Brandon Bailey, which you can find in the Umbrella labs, which were written by the researcher helping Spencer and Marcus on the Progenitor virus were simply amazing. Not only did they further provide back story for both Spencer whom is evidently very creepy ("If you're worried about the Ndipaya, then we'll just have to remove them from the equation") and Marcus, who is actually not a bad person after all according to these files, they also tied it into RE5's plot, including the Ndipaya Tribe.

    Library File:

Jill Valentine. Offers up plenty of revelations.

Itchy tasty is hard to beat, but there were alot of good ones in RECV concerning Ashfords/Spencer.

In RE5 I really liked Spencer's journal, just cause it was so mindblowing to read his direct thoughts for the first time in the series.

We kind of heard his thoughts in a file from Umbrella Chronicles, "Letter to Sergei" was more or less written by Spencer. All the evidence seems to point to that direction.
      See you in hell.

How was Marcus not a bad person? He was a deranged sociopath who used the umbrella trainees as guinea pigs for his T-Virus research. He also wanted to destroy the world with T after he was resurrected and plotted revenge on umbrella.

        Seems pretty evil to me.

REmake's Lisa Trevor file, the one where says "Mommy where are you...". I don't remeber if it was a photo or what, but the whole Trevor files where awesome.

But I agree. Itchy Tasty is the best ever.

            The suicide note in remake.

It gives the reminder the zombies were once humans who had lives, families and jobs.
It adds alot of humanity to the game.

The files have always been one of my favorite tidbits of the series, so it's hard to choose one for each game

RE0 - Marcus's Diary ("scholar Will and practical Al")
              RE1 - Researcher's Will or Keeper's Diary
              REmake - George Trevor's Diary
RE2 - Either Irons's diary or the operation report involving the licker
RE3 - That reporter's journal you find in the newspaper office
RE:S - There's a file that lists features of a number of BOWs, but I forgot what it was called
RECV - Either the butler's diary or the insane anatomist's diary
RE: DA - the files I don't quite remember, though IIRC they foreshadowed the monsters better than RE4
              RE4 - don't care
RE5 - Village Youth's Diary (I know it's derivative of the keeper's diary, but I don't care. It gave a pretty good picture of what the plagas does to a host's mentality)

He was originally not that bad, aside from being business minded from the very beginning to apply Progenitor as a B.O.W. Beyond that though, he didn't care. He didn't care about Umbrella, Spencer or anyone else. He only cared about his research and the results it would bring.

Then come 1978 he begins to become senile, paranoid and appears to be suffering from dementia. Begins murdering Umbrella employees and using them as test subjects due to the stress of not having any other animal suited to Progenitor.

Then by 1988 he's completely absorbed in his leeches, with a full-blown obsession with them and lack of care for anything else.

In 1998, after becoming the Queen Leech, he basically began to enact his last thoughts after seeing seeing Umbrella's betrayal, which is to destroy them and everything else.

Spencer was the most evil out of them all from the get-go, and was partially responsible for Marcus' mental breakdown.

I agree here, but at the same time, I'm level-headed enough to remind myself that no matter how many zombies, majini or ganados I've killed, I know that they're victims. They're all victims of terrorism. I've slaughtered many of these 'monsters' but it's very important to know that they were once normal people, and they're not the bad guys. It makes the games much more interesting.

Do we know anything at all about Edward Ashford, what's all this nonsense I keep hearing down the grapevine about him wanting to use the virus for beneficial purposes?

That's really all I've heard about him.

Oh and CR, terrorism? I don't think anyone in the Arklay mansion was aware of Marcus, as far as they knew it was just a leak. While it's true that the zombies in RE1 were once human, their own shortcomings pretty much bit them in the ass. They knew full well what they were working on, and the danger of it. Now RE2/3/CV/4/5, that's a different story, though still, the only one with actual terrorism in it is 4. Saddler was going to get money in exchange for "Ashley." That's a better example of terrorism.

I think since 2001 people have just grown to have a natural nausea whenever hearing the word "terrorism". It's just so goddamn overused it makes me cringe every time I hear it, and I wish Capcom wouldn't relish so much in saying it all the time. That being said, you're right, but to be fair for most of the game they just assumed all Excella and Wesker were doing was for financial gains.

I didn't feel like making a whole new thread for this, but someone pointed out to me that on a RE wiki site, it says a file in RE5 says that Carlos was captured by Umbrella after RE3. Is there any truth to this? I thought I got all the files but I must of missed this one.

Only thing I can think of to make whoever told you that think that, is Spencer's journal, where he lists all the people with level 10 clearance he needs to get rid of, and one name is "Carlos M. - Captured" or something like that. But since RE3 Carlos' last name doesn't start with M, it's just a coincidence.

And my new favourite file in RE5 is the report to Wesker/Excella, which details how all the tricell workers were tricked on a bus and executed to keep Uroborous secret. It's just so horribly awesome since you just went through a couple of files written by Tricell workers, and even one where he's telling someone he's being sent home soon, and to know they were all shipped back and incenerated along with all their personal effects.
