I loved it. All of these people claiming they're disappointed with the game, saying it isn't scary, etc. What were you expecting? The media coverage surrounding the game was HUGE. If you played RE4, this was not a far cry off from that in terms of fear factor. Even so, RE5 has a lot of slower, more methodically paced moments of suspense that people just seem to completely forget once they finish the game and decide to hate it. RE5 is no more of an action game than RE4 was. If you hated RE4, I can see why you'd hate RE5. However, regardless if you liked or disliked RE4, if you played, you should have known what to expect and how RE5 ended up should be no shocking surprise.

People can say "it isn't Resident Evil" all they want, and they could be right to some degree, but I learned a long time ago that things evolve over time. You can either accept it or you can't. I accepted it, and I enjoy the hell out of RE5.
It had Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker in it...that's still Resident Evil to me.
Just to be clear, a lot of things in RE5 pissed me off...mainly story elements. And when I think about these issues I have with the game, I get annoyed and say "ugh, it could've been better," but that doesn't prevent me from really enjoying RE5 when I play it. Could it have been better? Absolutely. Did they mishandle the characters and story? Of course. But that doesn't change the fact that RE5 is still a really fun game.Last edited by Vector; 03-27-2009, 12:30 PM.

Of all things, the story disappointed me the most. I was expecting the Progentitor Virus and it's origin to play center stage, but it was only glanced at in the files. I expected this somewhat, but still. It didn't give me the "This is the last game" epic feel I was hoping for. Still a good game though, and without a doubt the best co-op game yet.

I actually did get did a very "climactic" vibe from RE5, so much to the point that I don't even know where the story is going from here. The story itself still entertained me though, and I was really impressed with most of the voice acting and the cut-scenes were amazing. I learned a long time ago to stop expecting much from RE storylines, and the backstory contained in the RE5 files actually really shocked me with the relevant and interesting material they had. The plot also unfolded in a pretty fun manner as well. The story wasn't great per se, but as a fan of the series I found it entertaining and ultimately satisfying.

Was I disappointed? Hell yes. I thought it was uninspired in terms of most of the scenarios they put you through. My disappointment for the game as an entry into the RE series is the essence of why I'm so pissed off and confused about the thought of RE6 taking 8 years. In my opinion you can't justify even another four years when you take a look at RE5 (another discussion altogether though). The fact of the matter is however, I'll probably be playing RE5 for quite some time.
LV100Merchant, yes the game has tense moments, but for me that's just it, moments. Games like REmake, RE2, and Code:Veronica kept a tense mood throughout, and REmake especially did a lot of things to further this (such as zombies/crimson heads following you through doors). I think we might as well end the discussion by saying different strokes for different folks. I wasn't too scared by it, that just may change when I do a solo playthrough.
Oh and I don't consider myself desensitized. I still get scared playing RE0 and...heck...even RE4 has moments that make me nervous (such as the novistadors and the colmillos, the latter of which I skip the introductory scene).

I'm quite sure enemies in the REmake don't follow you through doors, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I never really found that most RE games really had an overwhelming sense of dread for the entire game, except perhaps REmake or Zero which were quite atmospheric. Games like RE2 and 3 though... maybe it's a mix of me having played them so much along with the sense of nostalgia, but I actually feel pretty cozy playing those games. : / Specifically RE2. I love it mostly because if I find myself unable to sleep, I can just pop in RE2, run through it in about two hours and go back to bed.

Again I see negative complaints regarding the story and I'm forced to ask people - how would you of done it? Seriously, people moan on about the story but come on then, let's hear your wonderful resolution to the Chris and Wesker issue.
Sure - I could probably come up with a kick ass scenario that would of pleased every fan this way from Sunday, but then again if I could wouldn't I be in the industry telling my own stories?http://www.projectumbrella.net The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium
