  • Resident Evil Mods and Modding

I always wondered, why haven't I seen much of a modding scene for RE? I've seen graphical updates and some patches, but nothing ever major. With all the games we have out there on the PC, why hasn't there been much activity?

I've seen a good amount of Re-themed mods but most aren't too good, anyone know of any good ones?

There is some modding, mostly for RE2. Enrico released a mod called Reqieum of Spies a long while ago. And Dominion is working on Dark Biohzard, an incredibly cool project. Take a look on YouTube for Dark Biohazard and you should see what I mean.

I've never been sure why there isn't much modding. There are some experienced people working on it but so far only Dominion has uncovered the knowledge and tools needed to do a really nice job. For various reason, one that it took a great deal of time and money to aquire the experience and another being if he tells people how to mod stuff we'll be seeing 'unreleased betas OMG' for the next five years, he won't share that knowledge sadly.

Dark Biohazard looks pretty interesting, I'll definately play it when it comes out.

I kow this may sound stupid, but I always wanted a mod/conversion like this. It would be set in the Arkly Woods and the Mansion. It would start out like this, Bravo would spawn around a downed Helicopter with a decent amount of Ammo. zombies would instantly begin migrating towards Bravo, while in the sky alpha would be flying around. They can be put down anywhere on the map, as long as your pilot is good, but they have very little supplies. From this point you have to survive for about 30 minutes to ??? (People could choose time). You could head into the mansion, attempt to reunite the two teams, run around, etc.

i remember there used to be this side called dar-legacy.org which specialized in skin swaps for RE1 2 and 3 on the PC, i used to be nuts about it back in the day, swapping skins and what not.

Dark Biohazard can't come soon enough :9

I always wanted a mod where you were basically defending a location against respawning enemies. You could barricade doors, close the shutters, etc. A number of rooms would hold your supplies and as things got worse and you're forced to withdraw to the second floor or whatever you'd be cut off from supplies left behind.

Of course, I wanted it for Outbreak since it would be the only one that could do it and it would work best with multiplayer...

I stumbled onto that by accident and now I can't wait to see what this alternate reality has to offer the closest we will get to 1.5 sadly lol.

Counter-Strike Source has some RE skins. One of Hunk and I think Chris. Some others include the Samurai Edge and real life weapons from RE1 such as the Beretta and shotgun.

                L4D has the RPD level

There's a huge amount of mods for RE4, for example play as Chris, different weapons, different melee attacks etc.

Any chance of a level editor for RE4? Imagine the possibilities.. RE2 with RE4 engine, etc..

This guy called Baxton Was making a really cool RE mod for Left 4 Dead. But he hasn't updated in several months.

Then there's a Half Life 1 mod called Resident Evil Cold Blood. Its fun, but impossible in Single Player and its hard to find people online.

Go to youtube and type RE4 Mods. In the first that pops up, there should be a link to the RE4 modding site. However, the only thing they've managed to do is model and costume swaps and swapping enemy and item spawn points. RE4's files are set up to make it difficult to mod.
