Looking back on it...yeah. Looking back on what she became, I wish Jill wasn't in RE5 at all.
Not this again. Just what the hell was so special about old Jill that her brief stunt in RE5 ruined her character? Her personality isn't exactly well documented, so is your argument that she behaved out of character in the 2006 flashback or when her mindcontrol went off? What Wesker did to her obviously has nothing to do with her character and personality, so what's so different about her now?

Yes, she was. Anyone who saw that trailer with her headstone popping up at the end of it had their interest piqued. It had a direct effect on people, especially some people on this website. It got the Jill fans(Los Jilluminados, if you will) interested in RE5 if they weren't already. There's no denying that. Many people said "OMG I'm not buying RE5" because it was too much like RE4 or not enough like the classic games or whatever, but hey, throw Jill Valentine in the mix, and bam...you got a selling point.
You're looking at this like including Jill was some scheme by Capcom to lure fans into buying the game. Isn't it more likely that they just wanted to write a good story creating some tragedy and drama among the series main characters? Wether you thought it was a good story or not isn't the point. But saying they just "threw her in for fanservice" is retarded, since then you might aswell never have any RE character return for any future RE games.

Because she was marketed to be in the game, and she was...for ~10 minutes. I'm all for making money and selling games and advertising and whatnot, because I know video games are a business...but she was a huge selling point on this game. I remember playing through the game being like "Wow, I'm in Chapter 5, where the hell is the storyline?" 5-3 she appears, and she's gone, save for two short cutscenes. It was lame.
She was marketed to be dead, if you wanna use that argument. And the story was quite clear from the start that one of the goals/rewards/points of the game was finding out what happened to Jill, not have her alongside you from the start as a supporting character like you seem to have been under the impression of for some reason. You go through all these hoops in the game to in the end finally figure out what happened to Jill, and you're complaining her appearance was limited to the end parts of the game? What kind of logic is that? Besides, out of all the characters other than Chris/Sheva/Wesker, she probably had the most screentime and effect on events if you count her exploits while masked, so yeah, again I don't get what you're coming from.

I wouldn't say I'm disappointed, I just thought the way they used her was extremely stupid. I thought the whole brainwashed scheme was stupid, P30 was ridiculous, and the whole thing just screamed shitty low-budget movie plot to me. For the most part, I was very pleased with RE5, but I can honestly say that my biggest gripe with the game was the handling of the characters -- mainly Jill and Wesker. I thought ALL of the characters could have been and done more, and they all were either extremely misused or underused.
Right, they were ALL underused, as you say, so what's this horrible affront people are commiting by voting Jill as their favourite RE5 character out of all these underused characters? Are people only allowed to vote for Chris or Sheva in your opinion since you only seem to base this on screentime? I voted for Chris, btw, since I liked his character the most out of the pretty limited character portrayals in RE5, but I could definately see how people think RE5 Jill was an interesting character, compaired to everyone else. Characters that are only talked about and not seen and have some mystery surrounding them can generally carry alot more influence on a player than a main character, and seeing someone turned bad then redeemed, seeing a main character come back from the dead, is enough to score sympathy. Hell, having a character wear a mask and do ninja moves can be enough to score votes. Also counting in the fact that Jill's scenes were the only scenes involving any real emotion whatsoever from any character, all those things combined, why is it so mindblowing to you that people think she was the best RE5 character?

Bringing any character back after they've 'died' in a flashback, just to have them alive and 'brainwashed' fighting against you? I'm sorry I'm not sorry, but that just reeks stupidity and bullshit to me.
The original Star Wars movies are held in pretty high acclaim, and the story of Darth Vader/Luke is pretty much exactly that. Having a good person lose their identity and turn evil and then their inevitable redemption is a very popular theme in fiction and has been for hundreds of years, and it's hilarious to hear it called "stupid". The simple reason why it's popular is that whoever the characters are, it will automatically be dramatic and tragic. RE5 succeded in making the Jill scenes just that, which is all you could've hoped for. What is your furious hate for this scenario coming from? As a RE fan, did you get zero emotional reaction from the saving Jill scenes? Sure, the explanations how all this worked could've been better, but P30 was written around gameplay issues, not realism.

It was a crock of shit and I thought it was a terrible part of the game's story. I honestly would've rather had her die in that flashback than survive. It would've added even more animosity between Chris and Wesker, if that's at all possible.
It seems your issue is with the RE5 story and not with Jill. And compaired to the story of the other RE games, why the hell do you play RE at all if they don't live up to your standards which seem to be so unreasonably high? How can they be that high after the story of RE4?

And just so you don't get me wrong, I'm aware that alot of those votes are probably from the Jill fanatics who would've voted for Jill even if they hadn't played 1 second of the game, but I just don't understand the argument that she was an especially unimportant character compaired to everyone else on that list, when she clearly wasn't.

P-30 was absurd, but no more so than any of the other bullshit Capcom has done to the Resident Evil narrative in the past nine years; the explanation of Jill's mind control didn't shock me with its ridiculousness, but it was certainly easier to swallow than shit like Alexia, Marcus, Morpheus or just about anything from RE4.

RE5's story was a pleasant surprise for me. I expected trash but was instead greeted with a serviceable, enjoyable plot that left me ultimately satisfied as a fan. I concede Capcom missed some opportunities with Jill, but Sina is absolutely right; you could argue Jill's presence or story in RE5 was lame, but her character is hardly ruined and Jill was never marketed as being an important, decisive character in RE5.

Wesker, I think was the best.
I didn't care for Excella but I was amused by her crush on Wesker and how she
thought she could use her tiggle bitties to seduce him xD

WOW! what the hell, why does Wesker have so many votes? i hated RE5 Wesker.

and im slightly surprised that Jill is in second.

That's Resident Evil for you. It actually mirrors the events of the Arklay Research Facility. The backup team end up being the survivors yet again.

Josh Stone is the new Barry Burton. Great character who will never be seen again...
actually Bravo team is the back up team and Alpha team is the main team. but Bravo was sent in first for some reason.

Maybe later I'll post about my least favorites, with reasons. If I feel like it.
i strongly disagree, read Jill's file it's got a lot of good story about her, and now she's got a strong connection to the plot as well.

i liked her in RE5, but not as much as i liked her other versions, but i do agree that all the characters kinda sucked. though i did like Chris a lot in RE5.

i have nothing against Sheva but i do think she was a little bland, and she was just as much a plot device as Jill was.

She was used as a plot device to give Chris a reason for continuing a mission he would have otherwise dropped everything and ditched at a moment's notice. Her presence in general is done to develop Chris' character.

Her role was fitting and worked well for what it was. She received better character development than she would have had she been a central character. It's much like the situation in MGS2, where Snake received better character development as a result of not being a central character.

Jill was never the main character of the series. She was always second to none other than Chris. If you expected anything more from her in RE5, you were hoping for far too much. And to be honest, I like her a lot more after RE5 now and I'm glad Capcom took a risk and slightly tweaked her general appearance.

Also BSAA Jill is awesome/best iteration of Jill ever. Sort of an awesome mixture of her S.T.A.R.S. outfit and her outfit in Umbrella's End. She's my favourite character in Mercenaries and she looks fucking awesome with long hair, far better than her other appearances (without her beret at least).
ok firstly, i think RE5 was partly Jill's story through the eyes of Chris. just like in MGS2 with Snake.

also Chris was never the main character of the series either. im really starting to get anoyed with this. Resident Evil has an ensemble cast of Jill, Chris, Claire, Leon, Rebecca and Wesker! there all the main characters, no one moreso than another.

i like her STARS outfit better, then her BSAA outfit.

How are cameos of the series main characters a negative in your mind? Would you rather they didn't appear at all? What's your big issue? My favourite parts of the RE5 story revolved around her. Her and Chris's interactions were pretty much the only real drama of the game. Was she used as a marketing device? Disregarding the fact that someone who doesn't look up RE5 forums on the internet wouldn't even know she was in the game, how is her being used as a marketing device a bad thing? People want to see her, so fuck Capcom for supplying her?

People knew RE5 was about Chris, Sheva and Wesker from the start. The RE series has always been about focusing on as few characters as possible per game, so if anyone expected Jill to play a bigger part than she did, and she played a pretty big part for being a "plot device", then you can blame your dissapointment on whatever fantasy your own mind concocted of what RE5 was supposed to be.

And I don't really get how being a plot device is a negative either. They throw in a classic character, but god forbid they make them relative to the plot.
i completely agree with you, i would rather Jill have plot relevance than just stand around and do nothing but look pretty all day.

i was dissapointed with RE5's characters to, and with RE5 Jill, but that doesn't mean she's th eworst thing in the game, and her file is great.

I voted for Irving. It's a shame he only got three votes. Personally though, I think it should be about characters introduced in RE5 - i.e. Sheva, Josh, Irving, etc. As opposed to pre-existing characters, since they already have a strong following and you know that everyone is just going to vote for Jill.

I did like his portrayal in RE5. While my favourite version of his character was REmake, I thought his RE5 appearance was more in line with how he was in CODE: Veronica. REmake, CVX and RE5 gave us the best portrayal of Wesker. I strongly disliked how he was in RE4 and UC.

Wesker was by far the best character in the game ( imo). Despite him not having near as much cutsceen and story time as he deserved and needed, he still stood out, and he was still the cool, calm, and backstabbing sob he awlays has been, but even better. Pretty well every other character seemed flat compared to him. Excella was the closest, and she actually intrigued me, her lust for power and wesker was cool, and i found myself wondering if this was all there. I think overall, not enough time was spent on characters aside from chris and sheva, and for all the effort to show theses two off, they were the worst.

Cutscenes always focused on them in the same manner. It was either them talking idly about jill or somethign very in the moment, or it was just a set up for a boss fight to come, or a majini horde. Capcom said chris would be fleshed out, we would know what he has bee doing for the last ten years, and we still have no idea.

Sheva was the wosrt imo. Terrible. Her lines were just to state the obvious, and then a few cheezy ones at the end. she only had one cutsceen that talked of her, and then it was just her beign chris's sidekick and stating in the moment questions.

More cutscenens dealign with things not in the moment would have been better served, similar to how we see a few ( very few) wesker cutscenes.

The files were great, but they hyped the story and hollywood productions so huge, it was a letdown to spend 3/4 of the game searchign for jill in cutscenes, nothign else having much time in the limelight, then jill coems , its cool then, but three very short cutscenes, and all fo a sudden its chase wesker onto the boat.

Okay, sorry for the rant, went off tangent. Wesker was the best imo.
