  • Is anyone underwhelmed w RE5?

I just see too many similarities with 4 (angry villagers, same attack patterns, recycled creatures, etc) to justify buying this.

I guess you didn't buy RE2 right through to RE4 then?

While it does resemble RE4 in many ways and some parts do not feel too much like Resident Evil, I think it does do a decent job in bringing the original storyline to a close. Also, Wesker and Chis (both done very well) make it worth the purchase.

It's very similar to RE4. Probably more similar to RE4 than RE3 is similar to RE2 (debatable)...
But if you at all enjoyed RE4 you should like RE5.

I think you would have to be a seriously grumpy, negative bastard not to get at least some enjoyment from playing through RE5 a few times. It's definitely worth buying!

Personally I'm hoping that the current trend of all things online and multi-player, is a passing phase in RE games. I'd like the focus to return to 'single player survival horror' or a decent mix of both.
But RE5 is a damn fine game.

You could always rent it but you'll probably end up wanting to own it...

It is similar to RE4...but then, as many people pointed out, that's not exactly something that's never happened before. 'A Sequel? With the same enemies? How dare Sonic face Dr Robotnic again! I demand Mario does not rescue a princess in this game!'

The problem for me is the way's it's similar to RE4 are the ones I don't personally like, the massive quantaty of mob killing action and a lack of puzzles and exploring. In fairness, however, the puzzles are a little thicker than RE4 and there is some exploring...albeit it only finding the way out of the area.

The story is also a big jump up from RE4. It has a great deal more relevence (even now, with RE5 featuring the same enemies, it would be easy enough to ingore it's plot) and the story...well, it has been taken from B list movies as well, but at least a better kind of B list movies. The kind where you have some idea where the actors are, where as RE4's plot was taken from movies done by porn actors.

The biggest issue is despite the tag line and the fact the whole advertising campaign was based on how scary the game is, there isn't any actual fear to be found I'm afraid. At least it wasn't to me. So far I've seen one, maybe two people say the game was scary but mostly it's just another good action game, where you can go back to previous stages at need to gather more weapons, ammo and loot.

I actually thought that RE4 had a few more puzzles than RE5.
The only one that comes to mind from RE5 was when you have to line up the mirrors. Even that, was 'borrowed' from RE4 (that bit when you line up the mirrors on the island, to enter the caves).

You may be right, actually. While the ones in RE5 was more awkward and took longer it there were only really two...the solar powered lazer beams and the one with the angry statues.

I can see that quit clearly. I'm suprised no one's made a "porn" blooper for RE4 like they did with the original, I suppose the better voice acting wouldn't make it as funny. Yea the plot in RE5 isn't the most amazing story you've ever heard or anything, but if you've been waiting for the final showdown between Chris and Wesker than it's worth it. There were many times during the game where I was walking through a village thinking to myself, "Is this a Resident Evil game?", but I was also thinking that through RE4 lol. I think the game grew on me as it got closer to the end when familiar characters show up more often. I walked away pretty satisfied

thanks guys for the honest reflection on the game. Maybe a rent soon.
Yeah the series has moved on over the years. however for me nothing will be as creepy, atmospheric, and deliciously terrifying as the first three.

The game was similar to RE 4 gameplay but the story is good and the game has a good amount of replay value. I guess I kinda expected to be similar to 4 so i was really disappointed. Overall it is a good game that is somewhat original and is really fun playing with someone online.
