"i was wondering what everyone means when they say mary sue? also i think the only person who has written anything that even does any of the games justice is S.D Perry"

A Mary Sue is a character that people created who is perfect in every way. Ex, cares about everybody, everybody falls in love with them, unexplained powers, drop-dead gorgeous, is better than everybody else, etc.

That's my point. I hate videogame movies. Maybe the only ones I could stand are Sílent Hill (is not great, but follows most of the games basic ideas) and Mortal Kombat 1 (the same, follows most of the plot). But if you're an RE fan and you get Nemesis "the good guy" is disheartening.

Yes, I agree here. I love Event Horizon, that's how the Doom movie should be; not the screwed up version we got. Why do filmmakers and writers insist in changing the main plots? And giving us they "supped-up" versions that make them shitty anyways.

NO!!!!! dont we have enough bull shit action in these movies?
after seeing romero's r.e commercials and the fact that he pretty much invented all the rules of zombies and everything capcom based the series on i think he would have been perfect but in this post r.e4 world of thinking that action makes r.e i can see where you would make that honest mistake..i forgive you lol jk

I've had my say about Anderson in the past and if there's any confusion as to where I stand, read my name. I read the Romero script twice, I even printed out a copy I enjoyed it so much. Like Blyss said on page 1 of this topic, it wasn't no where near perfect but it was a hell of a lot better than Anderson's. Degeneration was the same, it wasn't perfect but it was watchable. I keep hearing rumours that there's actually going to be a 4th Re film by Anderson? Infact I heard that he is writing the first draft now. I'm praying for every Re fan out there that their just rumours. As far as the Romero script goes though yeah I'd much rather have seen that made and I'll read the script again before I can bring myself to watch Andersons.

Take out Leon and make Claire actually do something, then it's how an RE movie should be done.

As for the live-action movies, I personally like them. Since they don't try to relate to the games, it doesn't make the games look bad (unlike one game I can think of...). Alice did become a Mary Sue in the end, but it's not like one person did everything while everyone else sat around drinking tea (unlike one movie I can think of...). Sure, in Apocalypse, Jill was like "Wow, you're good. Really good." Even so, she killed more zombies than Claire in Degeneration. In realistic ways, too. Not this kung-fu "face-kick, gun-grab bam bam bam bam" crap. Alice does this, however, but it's explained. Hell, Carlos rocks some worlds, L.J... well, L.J. does his thing, and Claire in Extinction kicks some ass too. A far cry from whining because of a shard of glass the size of Leon's extremity stuck in her leg in Degeneration, wouldn't you say?

But oh no! This T-Virus doesn't act exactly like the game T-Virus! Now that, I think, is a good thing. Like I said, the movies don't make the games look bad because of the fact that they aren't like the games. That's what allows me to enjoy them. If Romero's script had been edited, etc. and released, I'd probably like it too. But Anderson made it not like the games for a reason, and I like it for that reason (explained above). Or maybe I just have a bad taste in movies, who knows. Either way, I can't wait to see the fourth movie. So sue me.

Well, the T-Virus doesn't act the same in the movies. It also acts completely non-sensicly in the movies. Apparently it has a way of spreading to plants that doesn't involve monsters touching them, or it going in water or through the air. Since we never see a zombie munching on grass and the other two options mean only Alice would survive...

...shit, I think Anderson may have just got an erection at that idea.

Anyway, the problem with the movies, for me at least, has always been they aren't just bad Resident Evil movies (which they are) but they're just bad movies. Full stop. The movies do two things well...they look pretty and give you a large number of views iof Milla's tits. They're not well written. They have awful character progression. They lack continuity and logic. They're cliched and the Alice character destroys any potential any of the others may have had.

If it didn't have the RE logo slapped on them I wouldn't have bothered watching Apocolypse, let alone Extinction. Hell, for a start I think they're probably the least scary zombie movies ever. And while they make me laugh I don't think they were supposed to.

But it is interesting to see someone who does like the movies. The only other people I've seen supporting them are Bio EX and Helegad.

Event Horizon was one of two films that helped redeem Paul Anderson as a director, the other being Soldier - despite David Peoples' rather audacious claim of it being a sidequel to Blade Runner. Something which I doubt he has the authority to make, despite co-writing the BR script. Yes, I rather liked Soldier. It had Kurt Russell, Gary Busey and Jason Isaacs, the latter of which being a grossly underrated actor.

In fact, that's what I disliked about the RE films. They replaced Isaacs with Ian Glen, who is the poor man's Jason Isaacs.

I'll bet even Rob Zombie could have made it better than Paul Anderson did.
