Most important RE character (series)

Saying Chris was the only important protagonist is like saying Aragorn was the only person who mattered in Lord of the Rings.

No it's not, it's like saying that Chris was more important than Jill. That is what you want me to say, isn't it? Seems pretty obvious to me that you're a little butthurt about Chris being labelled as more crucial to the series than Jill, and now you're throwing in some irrelevant reference to try and direct us back to a line of a reasoning that would benefit the idea of Jill being more important - or of equal importance.

As for characters not being born, I guess you could say that about any character in the series. If we wanted to be really pissy about it, we could say that if the universe was never created then there would be no series. If Shinji Mikami's parents didn't share that fateful night in Osaka during a thunderstorm, then maybe just maybe we wouldn't have seen RE? And even better, nothing would have happened. No Umbrella, no Progenitor, no Resident Evil. You and I wouldn't be sitting here right now having this ridiculous conversation about a ridiculous series.

You could erase the presence of any other major protagonist aside from Chris and each game would go off without a hitch. Chris could go to the mansion alone (which is what more or less happened), find out all that shit, get out, report back (as he did), get pissed, launch his own investigation, go to Europe, go to Rockfort Island (with or without Claire's involvement) and the Antarctic Base, go to Russia, Africa, etc.

Perhaps not so much Africa, considering RE5 was designed completely around the partner system.

Side-stories (for lack of a better term) don't exactly count, neither of those games are especially important to the series at all. You could remove their existence and still have a neat storyline. It's the exact same situation with the characters, only a few actually drive the whole thing forward.

If I had to widdle it down even more, I'd say only Chris and Spencer really mattered. You could remove everyone else and the series would still relatively go along as it did.

i agree, Chris and Wesker only really became important in RE5. i mean Chris wasn't even in RE0, RE2, RE3 or RE4.

and i think the most important things in RE, are Spencer, then the Raccoon City's demise plotline, and Umbrella's plot line.

sure Chris and Wesker are important, but not as important as people say, there only as important as everyone else.

i mean Chris VS Wesker's rivalry is a sub plot, it's nothing at all compared to plots like Umbrella or the story of Raccoon City. until RE5 was it's fan service plot of Jill, Chris and Wesker.

i dissagree. if Chris was erased form RE history, everything would still be the same.

RE0 happens as it does already, RE1 happens from Jill's perspective. RE2 happens with Leon. RE3 happens as it does, then afterwards Jill goes to europe to investigate Umbrella. in CVX Wesker takes the T-Veronica Virus as he does anyway. Jill goes to Russia and takes down Umbrella. RE4 happens as it does already. Jill goes to the Spencer estate finds Spencer dead then Wesker captures her. RE5 happens with Sheva and Josh.

if every other characer but Chris, Spencer and Wesker was erased. then we would only have RE1, and UC. CVX would never happen without Claire, and RE5 would never happen without Jill and Sheva.

I picked Spencer, Wesker and Chris. The reason I left out Leon, Jill and Claire just because Chris seems to be the driving force behind stopping bioterrorism. Maybe if Jill was Chris's partner in 5 I might have a different opinon. And since its almost Easter well

Actually I would say that Jill's story is the more canon in RE 1 because of Barry. It's supossed to be a combination of both but I'm guessing that somewhere in the mansion Wesker captured Chris and Rebecca just wondered around. There was a cool video on youtube where someone combined Chris and Jills story had all four characters at the end in the lab with Wesker.
