7.5 I'd say. While it's overall a fun game to look at and play, I found the scenarios uninspired and even redundant at times. You'd activate something and more majini flock, you'd push something and more majini flock, etc etc. While it was nowhere near as OMG WHEN WILL THIS END as RE4 thanks to the faster pace, a couple of stages (namely the underground ruins and the ship) retain traces of this frustration. Plus, again, there's nothing even approaching horror in the game. Everything is thrusting action, and while many technical and gameplay elements work in that favor, it doesn't live up to what the other games had.
I pretty much agree with Darkmoon (although I actually prefer RE4 to RE5).
The game tries to fit into too many genres, and does none of them very well.
That said, it looks nice, and is still somewhat fun to play. It's just not a great game. At best I'd give it 7/10
Good game, but not good enough for me to want to play through it more than once.
Mercenaries was really fun to play with my friends for hours, but it's gotten pretty old.
Doesn't have the same replay value as RE4 IMO, and the storyline is really bad.
I would say 7.0-7.5, cant really decide, because as Darkmoon said, its hard to judge this game on a genre, as it tries to do so many things under the Resident evil name.
the game play is okay, its Re4 with a partner, but the problems do show, and as Darkmoon said, the genre's clash with eachother, so the gamepaly is still fun, but mildly akward, i think a new control system might have better served the action emphasis.
I thought the story was one of the low points. It was intriguing ideas, that were wrecked by lack of cutscene time and dedication, cutscenes primarily consisting of chris's obsession, and just setting up a boss fight or majini horde. The files do a fine job for what they are, but the main campaign story suffered, felt thin, and characters felt like throw aways, or lack of depth. A great plot, that wasnt delivered at all well.
the graphics were good, but not too good. They were great in soem areas, but in otehrs, i wasnt overly impresse,d the hype of how good it would look did not match up to the actual game. I think alot of this also has to do with the stage setups, direction, and details. As Hellrizer said, the tralers of the game showed large, non linear, destructible, and detailed environments, while what we actually got was Re4 sized levels ( some smaller) , areas that were almost always a narrow path, or the way clearly seen/marked, oil canisters, barrells, transformers, and a few book cases, and very often quite alot of unused space. But, it was still not too bad, but not near what they presented early in their production.
Overall, it is a fun game, with some decent extras and unlockables ( not the best imo) , gampley that is somewhat fun for an action game, a terrible horror game, and a plot that doesnt deliver on grande promises.
So, its average as an Re game, and average as a video game, which is a dissappointment to be honest
No, kidding. I rated it 9.5 because i've played it for nearly 90 hours, completed the game on all difficulties (apart from the final boss on professional!) and got about 90% of the achievements. No other game has enticed me as much as this has and it is probably very close to perfect as far as my tastes go. Addictive, fun, intense, replayable, co operative, beautiful graphics, entertaining portrayals of timeless RE characters, it's a brilliant way to waste time if you ask me.
the game is just shooting... which is fun... but i didnt take anything away from the experience like other RE games. you used to feel smart beating old RE games.. you just feel like a mindless "ganado/majini" running and gunning through these...
I am a little biased because well it is an RE game but thing the gameplay and story did it for me. Could have been longer and added more horror but didn't really expect the latter.
Anyway, I rate the game an 8.5. I've played 90 hours (holy crap!) and I just find it to be fun, despite various flaws I can find within the game. Now I don't play many games as it is, but I cannot stop from repeatedly firing up RE5 for a mindless yet fun way to spend an hour or two.
REmake is my fave RE entry, and while RE5 is akin to RE4 (in the sense of an action romp), RE5 edges out RE4 due to a better story and better characters. RE4 was more fun for me when I first started playing it, until I realized how insanely idiotic Leon was and the sad fact that I would have to control him until the end.
I'd like to see the series return to gameplay more similar to REmake, but I just don't know how Capcom will pull that off...
-Ties up a lot of the plot from Resident Evil 0-4
-Co-op play was actually very fun
-Very good story, and excellent music and cut-scenes
-A lot of bonus features
and the fact that I have spent about 60+ hours in the game. Any game that can give me that much replay value deserves a good score.
I hope that if they make a Resident Evil 6, they change things around. Bring back zombies please. I want to see like Left 4 Dead type zombies that are fast, and want to eat and infect you. Not random people who can shoot weapons and drive motorcycles. If I wanted that I would just be playing Call of Duty or Gears of War. Also I hope more survival horror returns, if not at least something. RE 4 and 5 did a great job on the action, but totally ignored what Resident Evil 0-3 did in terms of defining what "survival horror" is.
