but the massive funds it might have required. Surely Umbrella was the main source.

It was never stated where Alexander got his funds from. It isn't really relevant considering the Ashford family were of noble lineage and rich long before Umbrella. Umbrella only came into play with Edward and Alexander, and Alexander had little to do with Umbrella at all. There's no conclusive evidence to say if Umbrella hadn't existed, Alfred and Alexia wouldn't have been born.

        if umbrella was never founded?

spencer would probably gotten married to a young lady named diana and they had grown old together and bought a cabin in the woods and every sunday spencer would head to a small local cafe and diana would be at the cabin nitting her grandson some socks while watching " Murder She Wrote" on TVLAND.

          or still a small-time crook.
Jill was never a "small-time crook".

Yes there were, the S.D Perry books. In the first one, "The Umbrella Conspiracy", it gives a backstory on Jill.

It's only canon in the book universe, entirely irrelevant to the games. Much like the films don't relate to the games either.

I think Barry would be working with the Kendo brothers.

Chris would probably be a drunk living with Clair.

Sherri would probably not exist due to Annette never meeting William.

Ada becomes a top spy and manipulates her way into being the First Lady.

Steve finally tells his father that he's gay.

Leon is still a cop (but not in Raccoon). He is also the most extreme cop ever.

Raccoon City never becomes the thriving city it was.

Marcus cures cancer, Wesker kills him and takes credit (But he doesn't have the name Wesker because Spencer never manipulated his genes).

                          Rebbecca joins the red cross.

                          Jill works with SWAT.

Billy is executed for his crimes in Africa.

Sheva is a starving Ethiopian child.

                          Irving becomes a pimp.

Alexia and Alfred exist, but they aren't twins, and Alexia isn't a super genius. Alfred is straight as an arrow.

Ashley is still the presidents daughter, but her stepmother is an Asian American woman in a Red Dress.

                            All the Weskers wouldn't exist...

Ada as first lady? Damn, I salute you America hahahaha.

And Barry should have his handcannon/sandwich emporium. I think he would own "Ammunation" and the "Jill's Sandwiches" brands. Barry "Trump" Burton FTW!

The Weskers would still exist, they just wouldn't be called "Wesker", wouldn't have had as intensive of an education or been injected with the Wesker Virus.

The man we know as Albert Wesker, would have a different name and could be a fashion designer, a musician, or whatever you like; he wouldn't be bound to Spencer's desires...

                                From the RE5 Wesker file:

"According to this plan, hundreds of children born of parents of superior intellect from all nationalities would be collected."

No collected children = No "Weskers"

EDIT: Wait I just re-read your post; my stupid fast reading; sorry. I agree with you...
