  • Umbrella Chronicles

Okay, so I was just listening to the newer podcast, and I noticed that everybody has something bad to say about Umbrella Chronicles.
    Cursor lag, bad voice-acting, etc.
I haven't experienced any cursor lag with the game, and I thought the voice acting was pretty good. But, that may just be me. What are you peoples' opinions on Umbrella Chronicles?

Not so much voice acting, but the dialogue.
    See you in hell.

I still stand by everything I said in the podcast. This is what I wrote on the forum earlier too...
After over a year of waiting, I finally got to play Umbrella Chronicles.
It's one of the primary reasons I bought a wii, and thank goodness for Super Monkey Ball, because I couldn't be more disappointed.

It convolutes the unnecessarily convoluted RE story even more. But it doesn't really matter. In my opinion, the story has gone to the dogs now anyways (it did with RE0, and in retrospect, CV/X).

Some missions I'm replaying because I picked the wrong armaments at the beginning, and I can't beat the boss. It's challenging, and I love a challenge, but it's too frustrating to be fun.

Some of the bosses it seems I just have to stand and trade blows with. I know there are ways to break their attacks, but it's awfully hard once you run out of SMG ammo.

To get high ranks, you are rewarded for destroying the environment, for no other reason then of destorying the environment. It's not very satisfying.

I know it's lame to pick on a Resident Evil game for voice acting and script. But this just brings it to a whole new level. Every line is delivered flat, and the conversations seem inane at best. I don't know why people are having a go at DC Douglas, he seems to be the best of a bad bunch. My 'favourite' is Jill saying 'Ha! Take that!' (when using the stun gun), which has so much echo I'm sure it was recorded in a toilet cubicle.

I took it to a friends house, and played with a friend who'd never played any RE games before. Even during the tutorial mission on the train, he said "What the fuck is this shit? It's boring let's play Mario Kart again". And now that I think about it, the game isn't friendly to new comers at all.

I'm up to the fight with 2 Ivans, playing as Wesker. And honestly, I can't see much of a point continuing playing. Did anyone find anything redeeming about the title?

There was bad voice acting, Rebecca's VA...it sounded like she was talking with her nose pinched.

It was alright. It was what I thought it'd be. A fun, on-rails shooter. That's all I expected from it, thus I wasn't disappointed. It didn't pretend to be anything else.

Are people seriously complaining about bad voice-acting in a Resident Evil game?

I personally found nothing wrong with it, I loved UC. Only thing that remotely even bothered me was TALOS's appearance, which just in my own opinion, did not look like it fit in the RE series. The voice acting I didn't really mind, only thing that bothered me was in Chapter 3 of Raccoon's Destruction where your avoiding Nemesis and Jill just says randomly "It seems that way" or something.

                    I lol'd.

Anyway, I liked UC because it was supposed to be a side-game, and that's exactly what it was. Nothing spectacular though it did fill in some plot holes and such, which was really what the game was for, moreso than an amazing retelling of the main stories.

It also gave me Carlos in good graphics and more Billy and Wesker. So A+.

                      I love you. Wait what...

For real though, this is said in every UC topic and it can't be more true. People need to realize this.

Just to reiterate what she said: Umbrella Chronicles was supposed to be a side-game, and that's exactly what it was. It was always meant to be a spin-off light-gun game...nothing more, nothing less. If you were disappointed with UC, it's probably because your expectations built it up to be something that it wasn't.

Yeah honestly, if UC was instead named like. RE5 or RE: some number or name that indicated it was supposed to be one of the mega titles then I'd say it was a huge letdown and failed.

I imagine it'd be a lot more fun to play with friends. I have yet to do so but I liked it a lot solo, though I didn't play it MUCH (compared to how I still can't put RE5 down), but yes. I need more people to live closer to me so I could have RE parties. ):

Would be nice if you could play it online, eh? Although...I'd imagine that'd be tough to set up...

You think so? I didn't think of any big cons to an online idea of it, but I may be overlooking something. I was sad there wasn't an online play for it since that would have been pretty fun.

RE is known for it's bad dialogue rather then it's voice acting. RE0, REmake, RE4, and RE5 all had very talented voice actors.
