    If I played it on 360 then yeah...but I don't.

How are you supposed to talk strategy when the other team can hear everything you're saying? Not only that, but there are a lot of faggots who play this game...not just the assholes who leave early when they're losing, but there are your bigots who spew their racial slurs, the annoying kids who don't SHUT UP and describe everything that's happening to them(OH MY GOD I JUST SHOT A MAJINI OH MY GOD I GOT SLASHED OH MY GOD THIS WEAPON IS COOL HAY WHAT DID YOU THINK OF RE5 WOW WESKER IS THE MAN), and the geeks with their high-pitched annoying voices who talk tough, although those can be found in almost every multiplayer game.

And then there's the kid that Rosey and I ran into tonight...he couldn't have been older than 8 years old. When Rosey asked him how old he was, he said he was going to go to her house and kill her because he didn't like being asked that question. He said a lot of other things that I can't even repeat on here...

Overall, though, I'm enjoying Versus a lot.
That kid was annoying as hell. Like I said...he sounded like the kid Dot mentioned in the latest podcast. But yeah...the death threat really got me laughing...especially when he didn't know that I was sniping his ass with the bow for about thirty seconds. XD

It's an interesting idea, but I think it just demonstrates that the fundamental RE gameplay isn't meant for multiplayer.
Yeah, it's probably not gonna be the next big thing, but that's kinda expected. I guess it'll live on in the Resident Evil Community as a piece of fan service that it is that we can actually play against (and with) eachother.

Personally, I think it works rather well. As it doesn't bend any of the rules you're already accustomed to from the Story Mode or Mercenaries. The only thing I feel a bit odd about is how it almost seems like shots to limbs, stomach and head all do the same damage or something. (As if it's only the Majini that are subjected to different damage based on where you hit.)
Though, I might be wrong and that I've just not had enough bullets through my face to notice any obvious difference

The only stuff I see in here is a 1MB DlcResource.arc file (Capcom's yet uncracked "next-gen" archival format) which contains some folder definitions and likely an icon or two. Next up is SPA.BIN which is the text for the title screen as well as the achievement updates in various languages. Finally, it looks like the actual key is a file called versus.bin, which is 64 bytes.

Mind you, this is on the 360, which had one title update which was 1.50MB. It patched the main "exe" and added online for Mercenaries.

For some reason, the PS3 disc didn't ship with the content on the disc, but was released as a 1.2 update which was around 36MB. But yeah, for sure Versus mode is on the 360 disc and this is just an unlock key and possibly some code they didn't finish by the time it was pressed.

Fun games though guys. Looking forward to playing a bit more.
Sons of bitches. I knew it!! Is that even legal? To make you pay for something you already purchased?
Versus mode recycles assets that're already present in the game. Why would it have to be more than just a pile of network code and a menu interface? A quick blind guess is that the patches and DLC for the 360 never touched the same data as the PS3 version did, or the archives on the 360 version had an open door for easier inclusion of the additional content necessary for this to work, allowing the patch/DLC to be smaller as you don't have to include anything that's already there and only need to add the new data you're introducing. (Making there always a chance that the PS3 update patch makes your system download something you already have on the disc!)

If I were to guess why the PS3 1.2 patch is so much larger... it is probably because:

A: It includes Versus (more or less confirmed that the PS3 DLC is just an unlock key). See MTV blog for the reasons for why someone would do it like this. Of course, based on the 360's update patches, it's safe to say the majority of this patch could not just be this.

Unless; the PS3 was just lagging extra behind in development on the online front and all of Versus might have been axed and held back on the 360 to make it drop at the same time as for the PS3 version, making the PS3 patch contain some stuff that possibly already was present in the 360 version on launch.

B: It might contain other tweaks to the game and Mercenaries/Versus in general, if you're first gonna release an update patch; why not smack as many flies as possible at once? It's already known that the PS3 version doesn't run as smoothly as the 360 version, I've not seen the PS3 version in split-screen, but the 360's performance on split-screen in some Mercenaries levels when the heat picks up is... pretty rough. Can't imagine the PS3 being any better in that regards. Thus I could see certain tweaks (extra assets or other types of optimization?) being necessary to get things up and running more smoothly on certain levels.

Anyway, I fail to see why the physical size of the DLC has to match the price you pay for it.

And as for content already being there; The Versus mode was most likely not on the disc in any playable form, considering how Mercenaries required launch patching for to add that functionality and how this certainly builds upon what that patch already did, but adds code for an additional two players.

What I'm a bit curious about, though, is whether or not the extra audio samples were on the disc or included in the patch archives (now that would be hilarious, if the 360's DLC archive is basically just a couple of lines of code + some new audio)

As for paying for something that was already on the disc; you didn't in this case. Your money (or free points) were well spent and you may rest well tonight.

Doesn't the PS3 also have a private chat function where you can open a direct communication channel with a friend? (Like, outside of the game session) If it does, that takes care of the problem.
Or, you could do like me and Randomwab did last night, we had Skype running instead of using LIVE (a mixture of me pretending to be near deaf in the evening and Randomwab not feeling like shouting into his microphone just so I could reply with "You don't have to be so loud, young man!")

Never said it had to, but to suggest that the DLC was anything but an unlock code (as Capcom rep's did) was disingenuous imo.

The audio for this was on the soundtrack, so yeah, obviously its on the disc. You don't fit 6 new tracks in 1MB. The .arc lists about 8 files, all basically conforming to:
            id\jpn\versus\sl_f_360_NOMIP_BM

If I had a proper rip of RE5, I could probably figure out what it was patching.

Not speaking of the music. Fairly obvious that the music was on the disc already. I'm talking about the speech samples (you have new pre- (and post-?) game speech about what the goals of the game is and how to earn a nice bone-ass.)

The fact that it's larger than the usual 104kb(?) DLC code (which is usually just a PNG icon + an encryption key or something) means that it has something more. The fact that it has a DLCRESOURCES.ARC is even further proof of there being more than just a key. (What's the size of each file + what're the names of the files you see in that archive anyway?)

Rust In Summer 2008 is brilliant |:

It's the music that plays during Slayers before anyone asks.

Yeah, when you were running past me. Its just before Gradon nails me with a Rocket Launcher, then jumps down to finish me off but is cut in half by a chainsaw majini XD

Gonna finish this vid later today. Its already at about 12 minutes with all our stuff, and I still need to comb through the IceDDZ + John + me footage.

Please try and find the bit where you see me get brutally killed by a Reaper, that was fantastic.

I'm trying, lol. It must be when we played with Ice, cause I can't find it in the other ones. But I did catch Gradon getting murdered by one. It was pretty brutal, and slightly erotic as Jill girated as the Reapers claws dug into her..supple body an. ok I'm done.
                            Edit:

Only on the internet could you find someone who can turn being slaughtered by an insect thing sexy.

Although now that I'm watching it, I can see what you mean.

Holy christ, that's epic to see from a third-person perspective. I love playing as Safari Chris, I think he's probably my favourite to play as.
