I gave up on trying to figure out what Capcom thinks a long time ago. I'm not sure what the hell they were going for with Alyson's inclusion, whether it be shock value or randomness...but I'm pretty sure that she was included from the game early on, and then 'expanded upon' outside the lines during Capcom's "hey, how can we advertise the FUCK out of this game?" meetings that took place somewhere in the summer of 2008.

Significance of Allyson

I recall someone saying that the red dress was kind of an inside joke. Allyson was supposed to be a mixture of Alice from the movies and some blonde girl from the Outbreak/Survivor game (I dont know which since I avoided those terrible games) whos name started with an A. Probably just felt it was better to change it to black.
She has no purpose other then being a unique game model that gets infected and tried to kill you. Chances are people are right though, Capcom wanted people to speculate that it was Sherry. I imagine thats also their reason why Jill (2009 edition) was blonde. Sure it was explained why she was blonde but in the event that images were leaked before the game came out...people would assume Sherry. Its decent misdirection but also ends up disappointing fans who expected Sherry.
You can't really be mad at Capcom though, some fans will claim they promised Sherry in this game, but theres no such proof that they ever said.Last edited by Darinl1979; 04-15-2009, 01:02 PM.

I think Allyson existed as a marketing tool...Game wise though....she really wasn't important at all.sigpic

Yeah, they changed the colour of her dress, don't know why either.
And it was good advertisement on Capcom's part, it pretty much deceived a good 90% of the fanbase into thinking she was Sherry. But when I say thinking, I really mean hoping this plotline would come to an end, since Wesker was back too (since he was the one who captured Sherry), I can see how most of us were fooled.Last edited by Henry Spencer; 04-15-2009, 01:55 PM.

seemed pretty close to black to me, but it was bright red in the earlier trails, about the same red as ada's trade mark one.

One of the earliest images released was one of those wallpaper sized images from the RE website that featured the editing notes. One showed Chris looking up at the balcony and seeing the blonde haired girl. She was wearing a dress that was a brighter shade of red.
Also, an early official image showed Chris holding Allyson after she collapses into his arms. Sheva was edited out of the photo, as this was still in the days prior to the reveal of Sheva.
So many people thought the blonde girl in the red dress was Sherry, since at that time, we were still being told that RE5 would wrap up many of the plotholes. And of course, as a gullible fan base, we all actually believed that the Sherry plothole would be one of the "many."

And oh boy, there are many. They pretty much wrapped up the Umbrella organisation and Wesker storylines, but as far as side characters goes there's plenty of work to be done.Last edited by Henry Spencer; 04-15-2009, 02:42 PM.

^There's really not many left. I mean, off the top of my head...
- Steve (is he alive or dead? Does anyone really care?)
- Barry/Rebecca/Billy/Carlos (Where are they?)
- Sherry (what happened to her?)
- Ada (who does she work for? Or was she merely Wesker's pawn?)
Out of those...well, none of them are really important. RE5 pretty much wrapped up all the essential things.

RE5 wrapped up the UMBRELLA part of the story just fine. Separate characters like Ada and Sherry aren't related to Umbrella now .. (ada works for someone else, and sherry is AWOL, wesker was supposed to have her in possession, but no sign of that in RE5, still it didn't have anything to do with Umbrella anymore).

This, among other reasons, is why I think Ada needs to have a huge role in RE6.Last edited by Vector; 04-15-2009, 04:53 PM.

Steve's dead and Wesker only needed his body for a T-Veronica sample (and from RE5 we know that Wesker managed to obtain the virus). That whole "maybe he'll come back alive, just as I did. And be able to see your sister again." was rather to piss Redfields off and not a real threat, because Wesker didn't have means to really achieve that.
Of course there's a probability that one day he may show up all happy and alive, just like Wesker, Ada, Jill, Marcus, but this is Resident Evil; if Capcom wants, they could even resurrect the entire Bravo Team using some kind of magic virus... >_>
