As far as i'm concerned she was used to introduce the Cephalo variety of Majini.

The cynic in me thinks they just added Allyson because they thought it might help quell the cries of racism if they showed a white woman being infected instead of a black woman. You know, to "balance things out," so to speak.

Heck, early previews of the game mentioned that it was a black Majini who infected her, and that was obviously changed.

"Allyson" wasn't even named in the game, "Allyson" just filled a roll that was doled out to a normal villager in RE4, thus, "Allyson" has absolutely no significance whatsoever! haha

Alysson was just there to throw us off guard, to make us think she might be Sherry or someone with importance. I don't think she had any significance whatsoever.

              Nope.

I think Allyson was added just to throw some variety. I don't even think Capcom wanted us to believe it was Sherry, or Jill with blonde hair either. They just didn't have plans for her in this game.

But it's still weird to make a completely new character just for the purpose of killing her within few seconds and not even mentioning her again after that... But then again, no, it's not weird. Capcom already did this with other characters in previous games (Kendo, Tyrell, Murphy, a scientist in RECV, cops from RE4...).

Yeah, to Capcom's logic it isn't weird, but it wouldn't have harmed anyone to include the posts from the Kijuju blog as files near that house. It was probably an afterthought...

Yeah, it would be nice of them to include Adam's blog somewhere in the game (even as a file in the library), because it was really an interesting view on the whole degradation and barbarisation of people in Kijuju, how from ordinary citizens within few days they all started to act like brutal savages.

You guys obviously haven't figured out how to rescue Allyson yet...

                        Here's how:
                        Spoiler:

The resulting cutscene is really interesting

Yes I did. With a well placed magnum shot in the head. Now she's resting safely... in hell.

But anyway, she was just a marketing plot. That and Adam's blog. However was a very interesting read though.

So it's not possible to rescue her at all? I've been wondering if a well-timed shot would have resulted in a different cut scene.

Well, under the right circumstances and a shot to the mouth, a cutscene will show the bullet going down her throat and winding it's way through her insides, finally killing the Type 2 plaga attached to her spine. How do you achieve it? It's one of those things where your console has to be at a certain date, time, and brightness adjustment. Kinda like The End trick in MGS3.

Seriously, there's no way to find out if Capcom actually made Allyson out to be a ploy (it is curious that her dress changed color though). Unless you break her neck, she introduces the cephalo plaga and she does only that. Big Stu has a point in that she wasn't even given a name in the actual game. While I like the experience Kijuju blog, it adds about as much to RE5 as the viral videos.

I enjoy thinking of scenarios where the insignificant characters could have been saved, however. Or at least spoken to before their infection. The first majini you fight, for instance. They should have mixed it up and actually had you interact with a desperate human.

You do realize that you encounter her prior to walking into that building, right?

There's a very quick instance prior to that where she can be seen being dragged back by her hair by a Majini. I've never been able to do it, and doubt that you can, but I've wondered what would happen if you headshotted that guy before he dragged her off.
