RE4 vs. RE5: Voice-Acting

Come on, don't start calling RE4's lines comedy now. It's offensive to comedy. If you're laughing it's because of how hilariously bad some of the "jokes" are, but not for the reasons the writers had in mind, just like with RE1 - funny as hell, but not intentional comedy.

I really don't believe the reaction the writers were going for when writing RE4 was 50% cringe 50% shaking your head laughing in disbelief. The reaction they were going for was "wow, Leon sure is awesome." which is quite frankly, a reaction only a dork would have. Problem is most game developers are dorks, especially in Japan.

Seems like people in this thread don't know how to judge what's canon and what's not.

I suspect the Archives 2 that Nikkolas was refering to was Biohazard: Decade - It's a Chinese bootleg which is mostly just Archives with some RE4 stuff, with a DVD which is pretty much a rip from Catalysis, and the Ada reports from Separate ways/ Incubate DVD. It's NOT OFFICIAL, and therefore not canon.

The basic assumption is that something is canon unless it violates something which is deemed to be more important in the canon. The null hypothesis doesn't have to be negative (ie. Game isn't-canon until proven canon).Dead Aim violates NOTHING in the established canon, and the only thing it offends is some peoples sensibilities. If you don't like it, then you don't like it. That doesn't mean it's not canon. It seems that for some reason people think they have to like Resident Evil games, and if they don't, it's ok because it's not canon anyway. Absolutely bizzare.
Interestingly, the Spencer Rain is eluded to in Wesker's Extra Report, which should silence any doubters about the games canonicity.

As for the topic of RE4 vs RE5 voice acting; the best voice acting in the world won't save a poor game. And that doesn't mean that both aren't canon ;-)

Well, like most people I loved RE4. The gameplay, environments, enemy designs. Just the meticulous detail of everything. The story was incredibly simplistic and campy, but it progressed in a satisfying way to make it a fun adventure... BUT, when compairing it to the RE universe, it was so cheesy, simplistic and campy that it doesn't fit in, which is saying alot next to the cheese found in the other games. It's by far the most basic and nonsensical Resident Evil storyline ever written.

And, even though I loved RE4, like most people, I still think Leon is a fucking dork. In a funny harmless way, though, I'll give you that.

I can honestly say I didn't react that way. I was honestly rolling my eyes and cringing at half the shit he said in the game. Keep in mind, I really liked Leon before RE4 -- RE2 was and still is my favorite RE game, so I liked him...and I'll accept a few cheesy lines here and there, but my God. I think people's dislike for him is justified, even moreso after Degeneration where he was even worse.

@Sina: Most simple RE story? That goes to RE3. It's story entails "get out of city". The only vague subplot in it is "Nicholai is an asshole and want sto kill you."
And then you escape the city.
THat's the plot of RE3 in its fullness.

Ok, here's a re-take on my opinion. As far as RE5 vs RE4 on best voice acting, RE5 takes the cake. RE4 also has some damn good voice acting, but just not as good as RE5. In all fairness, I think it's obvious that the RE4 cast just had some bad scripts, but their voice acting was superb. Even if RE5 is better than RE4, I can't be too hard on the latter since I thought that Leons' voice was great. His voice just sounded, comfortable right from the start. which I think made him sound more natural. He might of had some cheesy lines, but what can you do? I liked Leon's voice a lot, and when I heard Chris's voice in RE5 at first, I thought...meh. However, once I saw the emotional scenes in RE5, WOW. I've never heard so much emotion come through a single character. Basically, I think it comes down to this.

RE4= Great voice acting (Leon, Ada, Krauser) + cheesy script

RE5= Great Voice acting w/ more emotion (Chris, Wesker, Josh) + serious script
