  • Resident Evil: Revelations (What Resident Evil 5 Should Have Been)

Heya guys, well, I've noticed that there's a lot of argument as to wether or not Resident Evil 5 was a good game. Personally I liked it as a game. As a Resident Evil game I was not too impressed.

Well, I've been really bored these last couple of days and decided to write a fanfic of what I thought Resident Evil 5 should have been. Since I'm really bored I decided to post a summary of it on here...I would love to know what you guys think of it, maybe my plot idea is even worse than the one used in actual Resident Evil 5...

    PLOT:
    PROLOGUE:
We get an explanation as to what has happened to Chris and Jill in the years since the fall of Umbrella. They have joined the BSAA which fights against Bio-terrorism.

    PART ONE: The Village
A small village in Romania suffers an outbreak of the T-VIRUS, the BSAA sends a group in to investigate, the group includes long-time partners Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. They arrive in the village to find the streets deserted, blood stains the walls of the surrounding houses and low moans can be heard. Jill has a flashback to how Racoon City was during the events of Resident Evil 3. The team splits into two and proceeds to investigate the village. One half of the team is wiped out by a horde of zombies. Meanwhile Chris and Jill find a diary in one of the houses, that mentions the “mysterious man who lives in the castle which resides on the hill, overlooking our village” and that the “mysterious attacks” started after a recent earthquake. Chris contacts BSAA HQ to find out if any terrorist demands have been made yet, however HQ replies negative. Chris wonders what kind of terrorist carries out a terror attack without making any demands.
Jill, Chris and what remains of the BSAA team continue through the village, searching for survivors. They find more files that mention the man who lives in the castle, and how no one from the village has ever seen him up close. They eventually find a survivor, an old man who has barricaded himself in his basement. His name is Arthur and he fills them in on how the attacks started. As they make to leave the house with Arthur, they catch site of a man dressed in a white lab coat, however he runs away in the direction of the hillside before Chris or Jill can catch him. They continue through the village picking off Zombies, they also encounter some Zombie dogs. It soon becomes clear that there are no more survivors. They ask Arthur about the mysterious man who lives in the castle and he informs them that the man arrived 11 Years ago (1998), in a helicopter, a helicopter which bore the Umbrella Logo on it. Chris and Jill decide that they need to investigate the castle, there are 4 other surviving BSAA members at this time, 2 of which escort Arthur to the evacuation point, the other two accompany Jill and Chris, before he goes Arthur tells them of a system of caves inside the hill which will lead them up to the castle.

    PART TWO: The Caves
The caves too are infested with zombies, and, to Chris and Jill’s horror, Hunters. After killing the Hunters, Chris theorises that maybe the outbreak was not a terrorist attack at all. He suggests that maybe Umbrella has survived, and is trying to continue its research in secret. They proceed through the cave and finally come to a large door which leads to the castle, however, it has a puzzle lock which needs 2 crests to unlock. They figure that the crests must be hidden somewhere within the maze of tunnels and go in search of them. They eventually find them and return to the door, Upon unlocking the door they find themselves confronted by the man in the white coat, who is stood next to a lorry which has a large metal container on it. From within the container they can hear a growling noise, and the sound of something trying to scratch its way out. The man tells Chris, Jill and the BSAA members that they have seen too much and that they must die. He then drops the cage from the back of the lorry and releases the lock, however, before he can get away a huge claw tears through the door and guts him. From within the cage comes a large Tyrant, which Chris and Jill must now battle. They eventually win the fight, but the Tyrant kills the remaining two BSAA members, leaving only Chris and Jill to proceed into the castle.

    PART THREE: The Castle
The castle is large, and seems to be empty, except for the fact that there are candles lighting the walls. The two find a hidden door which contains a massive bulkhead, leading to the lower levels. To unlock it however they need a key card. They guess that the dead scientist would have had one, and Jill heads back to retrieve it, whist Chris continues to explore the castle. He makes it to the main hall, when he hears mocking laughter, followed by “Hello Chris”. Wesker is back. He and Chris have a brief scuffle, where Wesker clearly has the upper hand. Chris states that he should have known Wesker was behind everything, however, to Chris’s shock, Wesker reveals that he has only just arrived and has no idea what is going on. He is looking for something, although he does not specify what. Wesker begins to come at Chris, who shoots the chandelier down from the ceiling, which lands on top of Wesker. Chris quickly runs out of the room, before Wesker can lift the chandelier off. Wesker escapes from under the chandelier and wonders whether he should follow Chris, or continue searching for what he is after. He eventually decides that Chris is no threat to him and heads off to find whatever he is looking for.
Meanwhile Jill has made it back to the castle entrance, where she retrieves the key card from the dead scientist. However, a couple of Hunters show up and she must take them out, as well as the Tyrant, which was apparently not dead after their first fight. Jill eventually kills the Tyrant by shooting the petrol tank of the lorry and blowing it up. She heads back to the castle.
Chris and Jill meet up in the main hallway and use the key card to unlock the bulkhead. Chris informs Jill that Wesker is also here. The bulkhead opens and the two head down into a lab section, which is also infested with zombies. Jill thinks she catches a glimpse of a mysterious hooded however, she blinks and the figure is gone, so she decides she must have imagined it. The labs are also full of zombies as well as several other B.O.W’s. Including Hunters, Dogs and the Chimera. The two also find another bulkhead, which is marked as being the Highest security level. They cannot get in and so they continue on. They discover several files which indicate that the castle is being used to store what remains of Umbrella’s research, as well as to continue it. The files also reveal the this castle is where Ozwell E. Spencer has been hiding. The two decide to look for Spencer on the higher floors. Meanwhile, a surviving scientist has spotted Chris and Jill and resolves to stop them.
Meanwhile, Wesker has made his way to the top floor of the castle, where he encounters Ozwell Spencer. Spencer reveals that he is dying of cancer, whilst Wesker quotes that Spencer has done a good job of hiding himself, so good that Wesker was beginning to doubt Spencer was still alive. He also theorises that Spencer must have gone insane, after losing everything. However Spencer laughs, stating that he did not lose everything when Umbrella fell. His research has survived and he has merely been set back several decades. Wesker responds that it is practically the same thing, as Spencer should be lucky to survive another year in his current state, let alone several decades. Spencer merely says “No, I shall not survive. But when a man gets old, and begins to face his inevitable death….he looks to his children…to carry on his legacy…and I believe mine shall” Wesker laughs and states that Spencer is child-less and therefore, has no one to continue his legacy. Spencer smiles and reveals (in true Star Wars style) that HE is in fact Wesker’s father. He reveals that Wesker’s birth had been an accident and Spencer hadn’t wanted him and so had given him to another lower Umbrella employee to raise. However, when Spencer had seen Wesker’s potential he had ordered Birkin to administer Wesker with his virus as part of an experiment. Wesker becomes enraged at this revelation and makes to kills Spencer. However Spencer tells him to halt, for he has more revelations in hand. The scene cuts and we do not find out whether Wesker kills Spencer or not.
Meanwhile, Jill and Chris make their way to the top of the castle, several of the B.O.W’s have escaped the lab by this point and they must defend themselves against them. They find Spencer’s room and enter, only to find it empty. However they do find some of Spencer’s IV’s. But both Spencer and Wesker are gone. The two decide its time to get out of there, and when they get back to HQ they will renew the search for Spencer. In the main hall however they are confronted by a new, higher-model Tyrant. They must battle against that before they can leave. They eventually defeat it and leave.
Meanwhile, Spencer has opened the Highest Level bulkhead that Chris and Jill couldn’t enter and he leads Wesker into there. As they head down the corridor he tells Wesker that they should leave soon, but first he needs to show him this. They come to a large chamber filled with drawers each with names on them. There is also a large cryo-chamber in the middle of the room. There he shows Wesker that he has DNA samples of every employee who ever worked for Umbrella. He tells Wesker that this is how Umbrella will survive, this is how his legacy will continue. He has used these DNA sample to resurrect his greatest scientist, one whom he neglected in her first life, but has now adopted as Wesker’s sister. Wesker demands to know who his new “sister” is, Spencer merely points behind Wesker who turns around to see a woman in a hooded cloak. Slowly she reaches up and lifts the hood down, we do not see her face. We only see Wesker‘s, who has removed his sunglasses, eyes widen in shock.

    THE END

Well that's what I think Resident Evil 5 should have been (I have too much time on my hands)
I'm going to write it out as a proper fanfic if I get time, but I'd just like to know what you guys think of that as a possible alternative to Resident Evil 5? (Yes I know it doesn't tie up as many loose ends as the real Resident Evil 5 because I've purposefully left it open for a sequel)

So anyways, let me know what you think please ?

if you change castle part, it can be perfect scenario for full flashback where Jill 'dies'

I believe that sounds like utterly terrible fan fiction, and I'm tired of people and their "this is how it should have been" ramblings. There's a reason why the creators of the series are creating it. I don't think there needs to be a thread just to announce that you're writing what you think to be a "proper" Resident Evil.

I didn't bother reading it since it's clearly a pointless waste of time to, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say: QFT.

I think you guys are being a bit too harsh on him, he comes on here and posts something he's written to be critiqued by RE fans and if you didn't feel like reading it you should have justed exited the thread and not stated it was just a waste of time, thats kind of rude in my opinion.

I read the entire post and thought it was an ok fanfic. It does need some work but I like the idea about the Umbrella scientist's DNA being stored and I like how you added Ozwell into the plot.

Thanks for sharing how you would have liked RE5 to have been, it was an enjoyable little story, if you add to it let me know.

I'm sure we all have different opinions on how 5 should have been, I know I do. Again, it was an interesting read and thanks for sharing it with us. Also welcome to the board!

So you basically wanted RE4 in Romania, sans Island, with the BSAA instead of Leon?

I recognise that there was a lot of effort put into the post but still, it's rather derivative.

There is nothing wrong with abit of fan fiction now and again, although I dont agree with him, I did enjoy reading it and there was some nice ideas. I definatley think it should have been a Chris and Jill game, specially as it ties in with Re1 so much. The only reason Sheva was in the game is because of all the racist claims that came out after the first few trailers. They were accused of being racist so their answer was lets put some black people in the game (Sheva & Josh) just to show that they can be good as well as evil. I am nowhere near racist but sometimes I do feel black people play the skin colour card just because they can, and this was one of those times.

                How delightfully scathing.

My own take on things would be to have RE5 play out like a Time Crisis game, with Wesker operating in the capacity of a chief henchman with a personal vendetta against the protagonist - like Wild Dog. I simply don't see him as a main villain, he's always been a henchman figure. Other than that I don't know, I don't like to write up something that would just be considered fanfiction - which it is.

That said, I think my idea for Nicholai having his own tropical island with a midget butler was pretty epic.

I agree actually. Wesker is perfect for a similar role to Wild Dog. They tried to make him a main antagonist but ended up making him the stereotypical badguy who just doesnt like the world. Other than that this fanfic piece needs work. Im not saying its bad, that is comparing to the story RE5
, but it does need alot of work because this is pretty much RE4 with BOWs

Its not bad but really all that was changed was classic enemies and Jill and Chris going after Spencer, which they did in 2006. I think Re 5 did a good job with the story and had a good ending to Chris and Jills struggle.

                      TL;DR

I echo the sentiments of some people in this thread. Maybe if TC titled the thread something like "Resident Evil: Revelations (A Fanfic I wrote)" instead of what "What Resident Evil 5 Should Have Been," people would be able to appreciate it a bit more. The fact is, no one really cares about what people think RE5 'should have been' because it is what it is and there's nothing we can do about it. I'm sure we all have our own opinions on what we think games should be but it doesn't really matter, does it? We're not the developers.

But as far as the fanfic goes, I'm sorry to say, but I skimmed through it and it looks pretty lame. All I had to read was "Village," "Caves" and "Castle" before my palm felt a magnetic pull towards my face.

I though RE5 was fine as is. Even if they did kill Wesker, it was probably a good move on their part.

I don't really understand how I was being scathing. I'm sure everyone can think of something they'd rather have changed about RE5 or the series in general, but the fact of the matter is we aren't the production team. These are people that spent years creating something. Unlike a fanfic which has simply taken elements from these creators and other sources (I saw the words Star Wars mentioned), it wasn't something that they simply threw together and said "This is our final project". I'm pretty certain that if anyone walked up to a member of the RE production staff and said "This is how your game should have been", they probably would have felt offended. I really don't think anyone has the right to say those words when they aren't the ones spending years developing a story and characters that need to appeal to an overall audience.

People keep bitching about Sheva and the race card, but I don't see any issue with her. I personally like the fact that we had a new face. Which RE game hasn't introduced a new character? Sheva's backstory was well developed in her file and reflected situations that are very similar to life in unstable African nations, where children are taken in by rebels and turned into soldiers and where betrayal is just another part of a normal day. Besides....I liked the fact that Sheva was Chris's partner. Having Chris working with someone he didn't really know at first and having him tell his story, giving him the chance to express himself seemed to make him a stronger character. You could also add that in his search for Jill, it built their relationships as well.

As for Wesker's role....it's been ten years since he's been human. He wouldn't be able to function in a normal society setting. He was phsyically more powerful than any normal human, and especially in the RE universe he was one of the smartest characters. It would have been a bit out of place for a man with such power to simply take the role of an underling. He wasn't on some crusade to end humanity simply because he wanted to. As a creature of "superiority", he thought he could do something better.

tl:dr- Fan fiction is fine when it stays where it belongs. The writer is basically only creating it to make themselves happy and get a little bit of attention. Trying to say that it should be what others have already created is a bit disrepectful to the source material.

I've read the whole thing, and as others have said, it's fan fiction ok, but I think that RE5 is good as it is. This comes from a Wesker fan who didn't want him to die; but this fan-fic revealing that Spencer IS Wesker's father? No. More cliche than anything in the series.

We all had our hopes and theories of what RE5 could be, and now that it's out and done, we wanted something else. I'm happy with what I got. I mean, as a fan I can disagree with plot choices made and other things, but I support the creators no matter what; that's the reason I'll buy Darkside Chronicles and the other titles.

For me RE5 is a superb game, with the ripoffs of MGS and everything, I love it. The only thing I would change (obviously) is Wesker's death. But I have accepted it and somehow I know his legacy still survives, and that satisfies me.

How exactly did it 'rip off' MGS? I know there were some similarities between RE5 and MGS4, but seriously, I'd like to know how it ripped anything off. I will say this though, if RE5 'ripped off' more from MGS4, it would've been a much better game -- like maybe giving Wesker a monologue or two to explain his plan more, instead of leaving it to files and imagination.
