  • Edward Ashford - The Fodder Founder

So Umbrella's founders were Lord Spencer, Dr. Marcus and Sir Ashford.
Spencer was the enigmatic evil force behind the company through all the games and desired to be a god.
Marcus was the one who created the T-Virus, the biggest plot point in the series.
Edward...did what? He just kinda is there. He has no significant contribution to the series other than his grandaughter was a villain.

Are you Alexander Ashford from reHorror, by any chance?
    See you in hell.

      Nope. I'm Nikkolas from REHorror.
Though I do recall seeing posts by a user of that name while I was searching the forum.

May I ask why you asked?

He's Nikkolas, he used to get into heated debates with MoS about RE4. I've not seen Alexander online in a very long time now, he used to be on my msn. It's a shame, I used to have good Ashford-based discussions with him.

It states in RE5 that Edward was the one who more or less formed the Progenitor virus.

Ashford died while researching the progenitor virus.

His much less talented son inherited his portion of the company.

Alexander clones his ancestor Veronica Ashford but ends up producing the twins Alfred and Alexia.

The twins view their father as a failure and eventually test the T-Veronica virus.

Edward isn't mentioned much because he died early on

Yeah I miss MoS. We hardly ever agreed but I liked and respected him.

As for Alexander (the character) he sounds kinda like the Fredo of the Ashfords. You know, from the Godfather. he isn't as talented or ruthless as his family but he tries. But like Fredo his attempts end rather unpleasantly.

            EDIT:
            And you're right Alexia.
"The fifth head of the Ashford family, Edward Ashford, begins his research into what would later become known as the Progenitor virus."

So he started the research into the mother virus.
I never read that file. So this does kind of change everything. Way to go Ed, you're worth something.

And thanks for pointing this out Alexia.

No problem, I make it my business to know the Ashford's business. ;)

Alexander was intelligent but the hostility towards him from the rest of the family mainly stems from the fact that when he was head of the Ashford family, they lost pretty much all of their power or influence within Umbrella and he was blamed for their "downfall". Though, I suppose he tried to compensate for that by reviving what he thought to be the ultimate Ashford, Veronica, hence the CODE: Veronica project. It's a shame that Alexia had no interest in Umbrella (though she worked for them for a short time, in Germany and then being a Head Researcher, at the Antarctic base if I recall correctly) and just world domination. I've always thought that considering she is one of the most intelligent people there is due to her enhanced intelligence gene, she could have been formidable and rose to very high ranks within Umbrella.

Hopefully, DSC may shed some light onto the Ashfords.
                See you in hell.

Perhaps she might of known Spencer’s intentions, or what he is aiming for, and then thought of her own plan and her father's research to put her own ideologies to fruition, or I wonder if that the Wesker Children project could be related to her, or was in a similar situation from her father?

I doubt it. If anything it'll be a couple of files like UC had. In game will probably just be shooting Alexia's tentacles. I doubt we'll see much of her or any other Ashford at all to be honest.

Nah, the CODE: Veronica project was completely separate from the Wesker project and separate from Umbrella. I don't think Alexia would have had much exposure to Spencer and given the secrecy of the project (even Wesker himself didn't know and he was a lot more heavily involved in Umbrella's affairs), I don't think Alexia would have known. She states in game that she thought of her plan while studying an ant colony, saying it was "ideal to her".

I think Alexia will be more explained in dark chronicles, hopefully, on explain her own motives and reasons a bit more knowing, and more on the Ashford family, kawata would want to go more story-depth in the Resident Evil series and this would be the perfect oppotunity after 5.

I don't, because I think the idea of DSC is to reintroduce the old games to the new audience (post RE4 audience) and they'll want to know what happened between Wesker and Chris, I don't think they'll be that concerned with the Ashfords. I'm certain we'll see her and probably Nosferatu as well, but I don't think much will be expanded story wise, except for perhaps the nature of the T-Veronica virus (due to the whole "plant" thing on the BSAA site.)

I think the Ashfords will have some depth because Edward is one of the founders of Umbrella, and Code Veronica is probably one of the best titles in the series for pure fan service with a good story and a line of interesting characters, and the game is suppose to be quite dark so it will be a perfect oppotunity to explore the Ashford family and their intents, such as one example of Alexia injecting Steve with the T veronica Virus in the comic variation, that dark scene while Claire was watching.

In theory yes, but in actuality, I don't think they will I do think it'll have some form of expansion in there but it won't be that great. There's not much left unanswered about the Ashfords except why Edward died. Nothing was really said on that except it was due to accidental exposure to the Progenitor virus, and after what happened to Marcus, it's a wonder whether it was accidental or not. Other than that and the T-Veronica virus, I think every base has been more or less covered. I'd really like it if they did go into it further though.

Agreed, but the only true thing I would ever want left out of the founders of umbrella is to see all three; Spencer, Marcus, Ashford, in Africa where the very first foundation of Umbrella being created, being shown by a picture or an old film reel- like the scene with Alexia and Alfred- and then I am totally happy.
