What a missed opportunity to not include these awesome set pieces with their original plan for the game! Capcom, you better get the 5 team and Kawata included making a much awesome game than we’ve got in the fifth instalment. This just shows that there are people over there that have the right idea.

ABSOLUTELY BLOODY WASTED IDEAS AND OPPORTUNITY!

Missv, I'm with you on that. The beta and/or unused materials are a lot more interesting to me personally in contrast to what we got with RE5.

I spotted the names Gene has pointed out when I first saw it on Michael's site and had to do a double-take to make sure I had gotten the names correct.

Capcom really should have kept the beta idea, I miss good old Barry and I would have loved to have seen a section of Wesker and Jill surviving the fall.

Ganado, you certainly have put down exactly what I was about to write.

Barry!? Barry was going to be in RE5?!

OMG why didn't capcom do this!? There is NO reason at all not to include Barry this would have been awesome! Out of all the Beta RE games I want this one the most now.

Capcom you fucking stupid dicks! Listen to your fucking fans!

It seems like there are people at capcom who care about the series and it's plot, but it seems those people are not in charge, and that the people in charge don't really give a shit about the series and just want something quick, pretty, and that will make a lot of money.

Get Takeuchi off the team and have Kawata as main producer, there you will see some interesting changes for the good in my opinion. But hey the best thing to come out of this is these ideas to go into the next game, it would make it a such a great experiance, and with better technology and the team knowing how to max the gaming system for the best feel.

Oh I agree here. I think Takeuchi fucked RE5 up badly. I'm pissed at him after seeing what RE5 could have been. I hope Kawata takes over, and I wouldn't mind an RE5 remake using all this stuff here either.

              Spoiler:

Look at the buildings in that picture, does that look slightly European to you?

It seems like a different area compared to Kijuju's shanty towns, it could be just in the city where everything is more economically structured than the outskirts, perhaps above or near where the ancient city was suppose to be first hand?

By the sounds of recent articles from Capcoms end with dark side chronicles it does look like Kawata is getting more of the responsibilities for the whole series, where Takeuchi is producing Lost Planet 2, I think he should be the cement to fill in the holes that have been open from 4 and some of 5 because he clearly gets what Resident Evil is (horror, dark, the characters and the twisted creations).

I would love to know what his work on 5 as co-producer was, it would interest me to see what influence he has over the series when DSC is released. Scrapping some of the design to be a whole co-op experience must have removed some of these ideas to come into fruition so I hope that co-op next time will just be a added “clone” character in the single player experience (nothing that will sacrifice the single player’s design level and that added co-op campaign would open up areas suitable for a online partner instead), or a totally separated campaign at best. I am truly excited to see what the next resident evil title will bring after coming to see these ideas.

Ganado, you've just said something that I've been thinking since RE5 came out.
In addition to that, I hope that Kawata does continue following through with the initial ideas of what Resident Evil truly is, what it was - before we hit 4 and 5. And absolutely agreed on filling in the GIANT plotholes that have been around for simply too long.

I agree with that too, and yes the building does look European however with some of the other beta area concept arts and some other parts of the building look to be of more Romanesque architecture (or even possibly combined with Byzantine and Neo-Byzantine inspired architecture). Which could certainly pin-point it to Europe OR even perhaps Asia considering the clothing some of the characters are wearing in the concept art and the area concept art seems to point there more (for some reason, Syria and particular areas that had French influence comes to mind).

Yeah I really hope that Kawata takes over RE. I like him.

It seems that Jill had a much more prominent role in the Beta version, Which would have been good cause Sheva just popped out of nowhere. I really wish the Beta version had been the end version now. The story in this Beta looks very interesting too and I love the artwork. They could have done so much more with RE5 this was blatant wasted opportunity capcom.

I am just reflecting on the post interviews after Resident Evil 5’s release; going back on changing some of the design choices, they see zombies returning, a reboot in some fashion, and then Kawata’s personal point on loving the idea for the 6th title to be set in London, during his visit over here before the game’s release, seeing its Victorian architecture and looming buildings and stretch dark alleys being the perfect setting. Resident Evil 5 started as a ambitious title with innovative ideas, and then it turning to become a safe game to follow many same elements of 4, which is not a bad thing, it just made it a fun experience with missing opportunities.

They are heading into a better direction, this is what we can see, and I think the team can get a fresh breath of air when they work on the next title (if it will be a titled game or not, it remains to see what is left for this generation of consoles) since of how commercially successful for 5 is already. I just find it funny that it’s gone on the same boat when we had to wait for 5 after 4’s significant changes, but this time we can feel more relaxed and just let the boat row itself while we enjoy the two coming Resident Evil games, and then probably the next CGI film.

Guys, What do you think if we translate all the interview included in this book (Jun Takeuchi)?

PS: we could offer it for all fan-sites in different languages, I have the interview scans, ¿interested? PM me.
                        PS1: I don't know japanese...

I think Paul (Newsbot) has already expressed interest on this so I'd imagine he'll pm you soon when he reads your post, and I do think it would be a great article to read once it's translated

You people do realize Kawata was the one who thought it would be a good idea to make Umbrella Chronicles a railshooter, right?

I have no doubt Kawata had just as much to do with the changes to RE5 as Takeuchi, and neither of them were even the director of the game. I think you may be praising and bashing the wrong people here.

Well, moreso than what we got as the final result. XD

Of course the cut stuff seems more interesting to people, because it's something that we'll never get to see in action. If the positions were swapped and what we had in the game was cut, it'd look just as interesting in this book, I think.

I did love the Wesker carrying not-actually-dead Jill artwork. And a return of a tyrant like creature. The idea of zombies and Majini mixed mentioned also seemed awesome (though you can't tell if that's what's actually in these storyboards). And mention of Barry? That would have also been awesome. I liked Excella's old look a lot more too. It was very refined and sexy, without being all about the "OMG HAWT OMG BOOBS" that her final look says.

I think something else that should be taken into consideration is the possibility that something of this scale just may have not been possible on the current hardware. It wouldn't be the first time that a developer has promised big things, but then had to scale it back because he/she overestimated the capabilities of the hardware (see Kojima and MGS4).
