RE3's was just on a larger and much more open scale. The whole downtown area was RE3's mansion/RPD. You did the same kinda stuff there as in the mansion and RPD in RE1 and 2. But yes, RE3's backgrounds did change which made it more interesting, like how it goes from day to night, and if you go back the beginning of the game at a later stage the backgrounds are all different which I thought was a really cool thing.

I was talking about 'clearing' rooms. In RE1 and RE2, if you killed zombies in a certain area, you could come back to said area and not have to worry about a thing. RE3 took this away by making enemies pop up in areas you had already been to.

Yeah I noticed that a long time ago. That's one of the reasons why RE3 is my favorite.

Yeah I agree, it makes it a lot more interesting, that's the best type. But even if it doesn't I have no problem with it.

Oh, my mistake. I misunderstood your words.

I agree. But I had no problem with RE1 and 2's backtracking. But CVX was a little boring in parts. just a little.

I was only joking,I never hated backtracking, the joke was aimed at capcom being completely predictable.

EDIT:kendo, where did you get the pictures from? I seen A thread that helegad made that contained all the beta items from Biohazard 3.

Backtracking in metal gear solid on the ps1 got to me, waiting to either heat/freeze the key :/
but I love backtracking in the old resident evils, I guess that was just their way of making the game longer to the player. On the AA batteires, I would of loved it if when you meet the nemesis he has some in his hand and you have to take him on to get to them.

A little bit of backtracking is okay. Too much of it is not fun at all, and can get rather tedious and make the game less fun.

Backtracking was the worst thing to do in CODE: Veronica -shit took forever to get to one end from another, only to get a stupid key. Nemesis wasn't even that bad with backtracking, because you usually come to a dead end where it turns you back around leaving that area finished.

But CODE: Veronica had a hole here, a hole there, its like, who the hell made this so complex. i overplayed it, therefore, i don't know if i'll ever play it anymore, already tired of it.

Metal Gear games don't make you backtrack so much though. and when they do, they loop you back right where you proceed, therefore, its like, taking a track, but coming back a different route.

it happened mostly in MGS1, especially with the key card and the option to unlock all the doors before the first fight with Sniper Wolf.

It's partly why I never bothered finishing it. Before OUTBREAK, I only played RE out of some sort of trading spaces / house voyeurism impulse. I didn't see the point in replaying with a different character only to see the exact same rooms all over again.

Wow.. when CV came out on Dreamcast I never once complained about backtracking, it was a pleasure, and Survivor had come out at about the same time so I amused myself with the thought of raw materials being extracted from Steve. Plus the mini game was one of my favorites.

I totally agree with you. It made the re-play we did for the podcast a bitch. It totally soured my whole thoughts on the game.

I didn't find the backtracking annoying, the reason I don't play it very much is because it is one of the most difficult RE games for me and some silly gameplay elements, if you get them wrong, can end up in your game being unplayable and you having to either start from a much earlier save or start your entire game again. For example, the switchovers. No warning about it, and it's very easy to leave your big guns in Claire's inventory if you've not played it before, then be absolutely screwed for Chris' run (even more likely because you have a BOSS FIGHT right before the switch over and no option to get to an item box before it). It was those gameplay elements that I found very illogical and stupid. I still love the Ashfords though. <3
