  • RE5 PC - What controls do YOU want?

RE4's controls were a mess. I'd like to see these:

    WASD - Movement (A+D strafe)
Mouse - Character turning, when in aim mode use it for real-time aiming.
Space - Use, open doors, etc.
LMB - Fire, use, open doors, etc.
    RMB - Aim
    Tab - Inventory
    Left Shift - Run
    Q - Command Sheva
    E - Ready knife

That's all the controls I know of (I haven't played RE5 yet), but make sure the QTEs actually tell you what buttons to press instead of joystick numbered placeholders.

There is also an in game inventory screen, A quick weapon switch, a run button, and a command Sheva button. If LMB does all that stuff, then space should pull up the inventory.

Space readies the knife from what I've read and mouse allows free look when not in aim mode. You can use 0-9 to access weapons, etc instead of opening the inventory.

Numberpad for inventory would be good.

I guess I read somewhere that you will be able to use 1-9 to select itens instead of using the real time inventory... I guess I was in a IGN preview.

Anybody know if it's got Joypad support?

For me it would have to have support for the 360 controller or something like a SmartJoy that I have that converts the PS2 controller to USB.

Either of those to would be great as I just CAN'T control games via the keyboard/mouse, I'm a Console guy 100% ;-)

It's Game for Windows (Live) so it have to support X360 controller. But at least I'm glad that using a keyboard one doesn't need to press A to accept and B to cancel things, at least in the benchmark. It's so annoying in SF4 and DMC4.

That's great news for me as I'm very much so a PC games novice, I've had a PC of one type or another for over 10 years now, but have never gotten into PC games, but I'm going to make an exception with this one!

Can anybody tell me if the 3D benchmark demo work on a PC without a 3D card?

Yeah, it will. That's just telling you that it supports Nvidia 3D

Most games these days use a standard keyboard + gamepad icon set. So it'll always display just either a key or a button number. Unless you have a gamepad that is fully supported somehow. Like how 360 pads (xinput, or whatever they all it) are supported in a lot of games and automatically configure things themselves with full icons and everything if you hook things up. (Hooray for standards!)

1-9 shortcuts for the inventory slots sounds like a good idea.
Another thing that'd kinda be nice would be if they added an option to enable/disable "Drag 'n' drop" inventory organizing and item trading + evt. a shift key of sorts to "equip/trade" items via the 1-9 shortcuts.

At the end of the day, as far as PC controls goes, I hope they are fully configurable.

I think Helegad's comment was about the RE4 PC version where it told you "Press 1 & 3!" and you were thinking "WTF is 1 & 3???"

They replaced the PS2 buttons (Square, Triangle, etc) with generic numbers that didn't mean anything.

                          Also, this!

Think you might want to re-read the part you quoted from me. Especially that last bit ;)

The "generic numbers" represent the input order of your gamepad's buttons. Some gamepads have these written on them, if they don't, you can pretty much always see the button numbers in the gamepad calibration tool found in the control panel. The lack of standards is why PC games cannot go around keeping icon sets for all sorts of different pads (of course, if they made a system that would externally fetch those resources, it wouldn't be a problem. Anyway, 360 pads have their button icons all standardized, ready and dandy in most recent PC releases that people for some reason would want to play with a gamepad. Based on the config in the RE5 Benchmark, it certainly seems like it'll support the 360 pad without any problems too)

                              Why?

The "generic numbers" represent the input order of your gamepad's buttons.
See, that's what was wrong with the port. Most PC Gamers do not have a gamepad, they play games with KB + mouse (though the game didn't support the mouse). The default should be to show which key at the keyboard the player should press to proceed. While playing the game with the KB I got surprised when it told me to press "2" and I was pressing the number 2 key and nothing was happening.
