    Consoles are for gamepads.

PC is for KB + mouse.

If you want a gamepad experience, get a console. That's my opinion.\

And yes, I was referring to the "Press 1+3!!!" rubbish.

Your opinion counts for nothing console games are coded on PC's therefore you should be able to use any console peripheral for the PC where not all fps and rpg whores you know bound to a keyboard and mouse.
I never used the keyboard to play a game on C64 it was always a joystick, gamepad or lightgun an yet it was the best selling pc of all time enclosed in a keyboard.

Exactly, you should be able to use a gamepad IF YOU WANT. The game shouldn't force you by displaying only the controls of a gamepad. That's like buying a game for your PS3 which shows on screen "Press Ctrl to attack!". It wouldn't make any sense and the gamer would become frustrated.

I don't think I could play RE 5 on the PC without a controller, there just to many buttons and my hands would hurt.

I'm with you guys, people spend SO much on their systems these days, you should be able to control the games with whatever you like, not be restricted to keyboard and mouse.

Why the fuck are you so against me now? And my opinion DOES count for something, because:

a). There are PC exclusive games, dontcha know?
b). A shitload of PC gamers will always agree with me, especially your aforementioned FPS and RPG whores.
c). A lightgun is not a gamepad. I would always prefer a G-Con or similar over a mouse for lightgun games.

But what's the problem? You want to use K+M - use keyboard and mouse. You want to use gamepad - use gamepad. Want to use some other controller (like wiimote or Dance Dance Revolution controller) - use them. PC is an open platform and you can use whatever you want and most games these days give you the options.

And why were there numbered icons in PC version of RE4? Just look at the damn port - it was a quicky and lazy port (they did released it without a proper lighting in Asia and Europe D: ); they didn't even replaced low-res PS2 textures with the GameCube ones. And you were expecting them to mess with the code so the game would recognize whether you use a keyboard or a gamepad? They did what they could do the easiest way - replaced PS2 button icons with PC gamepad button icons, and as Carnivol already has stated, most PC gamepads have numbered buttons (also you will see those numbers in Control Panel in Windows).

It required the exact same work to replace the PS2 buttons with Keyboard buttons, (instead of generic gamepad numbers) which is the ONLY logical thing to do with a PC game.

It was another poor choice of Sourcenext.

Most of the time you are going to press one or two of the WASD buttons to move in a direction and aim/fire with the mouse. Two buttons doesn't sound that much to me!

                    No, it does not.
There are 12 buttons on gamepad (PS2 ones at least), there are lots of buttons on keyboard. The game was designed with gamepad as a default controller, therefore there are place for only 12 buttons.

St. Vampyre wrote a program that let you use keyboard buttons icons. But the program just simply replace those default icons with other icons (rename and copy & paste proper files) based on your configuration file. I agree that it wouldn't be so hard for SourceNext to do such a thing (such a script could be run every time you press "Save" in button configuration window) but it would require additional job nonetheless... And as I've said, they didn't mind releasing the game in that state, why would they care for people who would like to play the game on keyboard then.

I know all this, I am visiting the RE4 moding site from the very first days of it's creation and I first came in contact with BH4 PC from the leak the chinese pirate group did.

But this isn't what I am suggesting. All I am telling you is that they had to display on screen the DEFAULT KEYBOARD buttons. I am not asking of them to create a script that will update them if you change them from the default. But they decided to display generic GAMEPAD buttons instead of the KEYBOARD ones.

What I am asking would require the EXACT SAME work to do and is the only logical thing to do with a PC game. Most PC gamers DO NOT HAVE GAMEPADS.

To a PC gamer "Press 2" means press the number "2" on your keyboard.

Don't know about you, but I think I still prefer seeing "3 + 5" than "Shift + J" (don't remember what buttons were the default ones) when in fact I'm using for example "Space + X". It's... less confusing.

To be honest, I always laugh when someone had this problem: "do the game wants me to press button '2'?". I know that this could be because I've played the console version first so I know that means, for example, press the Action button.* Hover, since the very beginning the game was showing you "2" when Leon was near doors, windows or some collectible object, and (at least I hope so) lots of people knew, by instinct, that you have to press the so called "action button". Also, those numbers appeared in the manual file in game. So I really don't know why so many people tried to push numbered buttons during the first QTE.

BTW. The best thing SourceNext could do back then would be to make icons with text like "Ashley", "Action" etc, so instead of "3 + 5" or "Shift + J" it would show "Aim + Knife". That way icons would fit no matter what controller or control scheme player was using.

*On the second thought, no, that's not the excuse. Before RE4 PC was released I had played DMC3 PC (for the very first time) and even then I didn't even think about pressing numbered buttons when they were shown, because I knew what buttons I assigned to what action.
