  • I own Resident Evil 1.5

    The above pictures were taken with a cellphone camera. They are grainy, but especially in the second one, it is obvious that they are taken of a television screen, and should be ample proof for now that I own 1.5.

    Allow me to introduce myself; I am TheCollector (I am choosing to be known by an alias rather than a real name to avoid a legal dispute) and I have recently purchased an early beta disc of Resident Evil 1.5 from a Japanese contact.
    The disc is an early beta, one of the first builds I believe as the game is unable to be completed as is (the final areas of the lab are simply unaccesible beyond the B7 floor) and the game uses RE1 animations and gun fire/damage sound effects rather than later RE2 styled ones. Also, there is no voice acting in the game.

    I've chosen what appears to me to be the most active RE1.5 oriented community currently, and I will henceforth associate solely with The Horror Is Alive.

    Firstly, I want to make it known that as of this time I am unable to consider releasing the game as the contact I used obtained the game through a rather unofficial means and the game is still covered (rather extensively I might add) by Capcom's copyrights. I am simply not able to distribute the game at this time, however, I felt that the game should still be shared with it's fans, I plan to release videos (once I figure out a means to do so in a clearer format than phone camera) and more pictures, plus in the meantime I can answer any questions about the game you may have.

    And yes, I'll confirm the most prevalent rumors; computers are used as save points in 1.5 rather than typewriters, Memory Cards serve as Ink Ribbons, and you can obtain and mix Pills rather than Herbs.

    Are you serious?

    I just logged on about 30 seconds ago to read this board and what do I find but a 1.5 topic claiming that the game has emerged.

    I don't know if I believe you (you could be a spammer) but I've never seen that map before and that other shot is a bit grainy but it seems to me as if it was indeed a TV.

    How long have you had the game? How far into it can you get? Have you played both scenarios?

      Hi Dark Gaia,

      I assure you that I do indeed own the game. If you require further proof, you can request screenshots of your choice or even a disc shot.

      I've had the game for roughly four months now. I haven't completed it yet, as I've said, the game freezes at a certain point, when I venture to the B7 bunkers to turn on the power for the Umbrella train.

      I've gotten this far as both Leon and Elza, mostly their scenarios are the same; they just tackle the RPD progression and the Factory slightly differently. The Sewers and City Streets, and the Lab play the same for both characters.

      These three areas are much larger than they are in RE2, for example the Streets area covers several blocks and the Lab contains an extra three levels. However, the RPD is smaller than in RE2.

        Can you show a map of the Basement floor, or the 2nd floor of the RPD?

            Wow, that's a shocker.
            You've said that there's no voice acting in the game. I believe the game is in Japanese, so are there at least Japanese subtitles in cut-scenes or are there no cut-scenes at all?

              Blacktail, the pictures are in PNG format. I'm using Firefox, try using that if you can't see them. I can certainly get maps of RPD F2 and B1. If you don't mind waiting a day or two, I use an actual Playstation (not an emulator) to play and will need to play into the game at least an hour to get the the basement. The 2F map I can get a lot easier as Leon begins the game proceeding into that floor.

              Little trivia: The basement area is layed out exactly the same as in RE2. Only the backgrounds are different, and the door leading to the underground safehouse (in claire's scenarios) isn't there, and the jail area beyond the parking lot is absent, as is the sewer entrance.

              @MR Zombie:

              Yes, it is a sucker. There are japanese subtitles, though I can't understand them. Maybe someone can translate something for me?

                Can you put up a picture of the status screen? I've always wondered what it looks like. Is it just RE2's status screen, is it Re1's or is it something completely different. I'm still not too convinced you're telling the truth. Maybe if you can get me a status picture...

                  Little bit up in the air on it too myself, but I'm interested in this.
                  So I do have to go with Gaia on this... so some more photos would be wonderful if possible.

                  For the PlayStation then you could always get an emulator, a capture software - OR you could get some cables, connect it up to your computer and use the monitor as the display and capture the footage directly from the console.

                  I'm quite interested in seeing some footage from this, and from what you've described it sounds quite interesting.

                    That's easy. Using the save I currently have (in the later lab area, where I took the screenshot from) I can just open it up and take one.

                    You'll find it rather wierd, it has a picture of Chris from RE1 in it.

                      Double Post:

                      I just read Enetirnal's post: Would an emulator risk ruining the game or disc? I don't wish to damage the disc considering it's rarity. Would putting it into a PC drive damage it?

                        No, it wouldn't damage it as long as you were careful with it.

                        I'll drop you a PM and explain it fully to you.

                            I am uploading the picture to my photobucket account now.

                            @Enetirnel:
                            If possible, that would be nice. Is there perhaps a way I can back up the disc first? I'm rather hesitant to even burn copy it in case there is any damage caused.

                              Here is a shot of the status screen. As you can see, there is a picture of Chris in the upper left corner! Unfortunately the music skips while I'm in this screen and using the CHECK funtion for items simply freezes the game. The items listed in there are Combat Knife, Glock 17, Remmington Shotgun, Colt SSA and two First Aid Mist (I suppose that's First Aid Spray, but it says Mist in game; the item names are English).
