  • PS2 Code Veronica X Censored?

I got off school yesterday because of an annoying flu, so I had a bit of time to do whatever I wanted. I decided to take a bit of time to get a PS2 emulator working. PCSX2 works nicely on my computer, and the only slowdown comes in the more graphically-hardcore scenes.

CVX works great, and I'm having a blast playing it for the first time with a proper controller (PS controller to USB FTW!), and a high resolution (1440x900).

    Okay, onto my main question:

I died for the first time today after aquiring the (indigo) Emblem Card. One of those gold monsters with the ridiculously long arms grabbed Claire's head and had a squeeze. Thing is, it struck me as weird that her head didn't go pop, and that the "you died" screen didn't have a picture of her dead like in the earlier games.

Is CVX for the PS2 (PAL version) censored in any way? If so, is there a way to remove this horrendous censoring?

The death scenes were only in RE2. They're not in any other game.
Actually when I say that, I mean the enemies interacting with your corpse (ie. Zombies or cerberus eating it).

CV has much less gore compared to the earlier games anyways.

RE3 had the same effect I was talking about too

It might just be something in Code Veronica, because my Gamecube version does the same thing.

If i recall Code Veronica was pretty toned down on all versions. Something to do with sega developing part of the game i think. Remember you can't even pop a zombie's head with the shotgun anymore.

One major reason I rate this lower that most other RE's is beacause of the toned down violence. As I always say, after RE3 this game felt like an upgrade (graphics) and a downgrade (gameplay) all at the same time.

That's a load of codswallop, Sega had no part in development with the game. It was simply because Capcom got allot stick about the amount of gore in RE2&3 and must have realised if they put that sort of gore in a game with CV's graphics, all hell would break loose.

Not codswallop at all mate. Capcom studio 4 were overseeing the game but it was actually developed by a subsidary of sega. This was because it was the first RE title not to be on a sony platform. The dreamcast was new territory and so capcom and sega worked together on the project.

This is the first I've heard and I still find it hard to believe because A) there's no indication of Sega having anything to do with the game on the case or in the manual, B) why would the game be published by Edios? Wouldn't Sega publish it like all other first-party titles?

Sega couldn't publish it as it was still capcom property, yet Eidos had a publishing contract with capcom at the time that covered re3, survivor and code veronica if i remember correctly.
The company was called Nextech or something very similar, who were working exclusively for sega at that time. They developed the game but capcom were keeping a close eye on them. I don't know about anyone else, but i feel CVX plays a little differently to 1,2 and 3. It just feels a little more...clunky. I believe this is down to the game being developed by a different company, but thats my own personal opinion. Others may not notice any differences.

Yep you are right, Nextech who were owned by Sega at the time did develop the game along with Flagship (who also did RE0). So really Sega didn't make the game, I would have considered it Sega made if it were one of their in-house developers like the various AM teams. As of 2003 though Nextech became Nex Entertainment as it's own independent third-party developer

That really does make allot of sense now though as to why Code Veronica just didn't play as well as RE3.

Code Veronica has its ups and downs but in the end it was a great RE title for me. I knew going in that the game would be censored. I remember reading an article about how Sega was censoring stuff on certain Dreamcast titles. D2 got censored as well but I believe it was only in the States. My guess is that since Capcom was already lowering the gore in RE games since Biohazard 2 and since Sega went all mom and pop on us they just went with the idea of making the game with as little gore as possible.

I never played CVX enough to notice if the gore was toned down or not. Honesty I just played it for the story and didn't like the gameplay so maybe that is why I didn't notice and haven't touched it since.

Same here. Except Id also go so far to say that I think RE3's pre rendered back grounds look a hell of a lot prettier that CVX's kinda bland at times 3D ones.

I really don't like how there is barely any gore in CVX, and I noticed the slightly different feel CVX had as well. I wouldn't be surprised if it was developed by different people.

Hmm, yeah, I'm just realizing now how repetitive and boring CVX is. Sure, I'll play it to completion, but it really isn't reaching anywhere near RE3's level on my list.
