One thing I don't get is why Capcom seems reluctant to release an unreleased version of a very successful product to people who want it? Are they afraid they could cause some kind of confusion to the general public? Is it because its called Resident Evil 1.5 that people would mistakenly presume it as a "lost prequel" to RE2? What reason do they have to hold it back?
EDIT: This is besides the events that occurred during the curator incident, where apparently Capcom caught wind of someone owning a copy.Last edited by OKeijiDragon; 08-25-2009, 10:25 PM.

Well, Capcom considers it a product not worth investing in anymore. They scrapped it for whatever reason you choose to pick out of their barrel of reasons. It didn't quite meet the idea they were looking for, and they consider it inferior to retail RE2. There's no real reason for them to bother. The Japanese community really isn't that interested, and the real fanbase for the game is not really that large. It's just not worth it to them.
They for sure won't release it as an unfinished product. And I don't know if I'd really want them to finish it (granted I'd still be curious about it and play it), mainly because if they put the effort in to finish it, they'd probably update it and do things in it that might not have really been in the original vision of the game. I'd rather have the beta as it is, so I could see 1.5 as it is.sigpic

1.) Unfinished product (Besides the PC platform, you simply don't release untested and unfinished material. Both for security reasons and 'cause of licensing reasons. Platform owners of whatever platform the title is for most likely wouldn't be too happy about such things.)
2.) Developed under the Resident Evil 2 license, which means that unless they were to port it to another platform (or acquire a fresh license for it), it may still be bound by any and all PS1 related legal papers that is valid for... Resident Evil 2. As some may have noticed, the final game's disc 1 and 2 have a huge gap in their ID tags, probably as a result of 1.5 being 1 disc and RE2 ending up on 2 discs, resulting in only one ID tag being reserved for it.
3.) Not enough interest to warrant a full upconversion/finalizing process.
Personally, I still think the 1.5 scenario is something they could build things around, should they ever make a Deadly Silence 2.Last edited by Carnivol; 08-25-2009, 10:57 PM.

EDIT: You know. I just had an interesting and entertaining thought. If Capcom released 1.5 as it is, incomplete and such, they could rationalize all that by saying that everything of 1.5 were all a dream/nightmare that Leon had after getting drunk in the hotel he stayed the nightbefore RE2*. You know those dreams you sometimes have that give you "glimpses of the future" but those same "glimpses" would not necessarily come true 100% and, most of the time, in different scenarios? Well, everything of 1.5 inside Leon's dream/nightmare would just be a "dream about the future" and that Elza Walker would just be a "dream incarnation" what he will eventually meet in reality as Claire Redfield. Marvin & Kendo (John) lasted longer and Roy (DJ) existed, but only in that dream. What do you think? I know that sounds like BS, but this entertains me as such. Yes, I hope we see 1.5 soon too.
*I swear I've read about something like this before in another RE fansite. I'll try to find out about it more.Last edited by OKeijiDragon; 08-26-2009, 12:13 AM.

Originally posted by OKei View PostSo let me get this straight, 1.5 would have its own unique SLPS or SLUS number compared to RE2? Wouldn't that technically mean that it would legally be counted as a game on its own in terms of its "ID number", despite still being under the RE2 copyright?
+I recall someone theorizing some stuff earlier (about big business talk in general and unreleased titles) that technically, if they were to acknowledge the existence of 1.5, as 1.5, and evt. turn it into a product/release of any kind, there's a chance that may create issues as far as accounting goes. As they have a product of the past that hasn't really been accounted for and is thus missing in now over 12 years worth of taxation, income and product related paperwork. Of course, this may just be an extreme "worst case" scenario...
It's not always easy for someone to just go "LOL! INTERNET!11!! HERE'S RAPDISHARE 4 fans!"

Hi, i'm new here... (I'm from Europe, so my English is not so good )
i was thinking, is this petition still active?
Latest news coverage, email, free stock quotes, live scores and video are just the beginning. Discover more every day at Yahoo!
there is this gaming magazine called Screen Fun here where i live, and they answer to reader's questions... I could send them a message, asking them and other people who read the magazine to sign up the petition.
maybe you could do the same with some other gaming magazine?
what do you think?Last edited by V-JOLT; 08-26-2009, 09:46 AM.

I don't think you have to have a Sony license to release games on PS1 nor PS2 anymore, those consoles are shit old and open platforms. There is no quality check by Sony, anybody can release a game. And as there is no licensing, they shouldn't even need a SLUS code (Sony Licensed USA/Canada Software)?

I know Sony cut down on a few things on this front recently for the PS2 (not sure if it's the case for PS1), but in the case of Capcom, you'd still want to maintain a good (and professional) relationship with Sony. Releasing, online, a PS1 game ISO (or files/source/whatever) is not exactly the way to go. Regardless, they'd still have to open the can of worms that is 1.5 if they were to "officially" release it in any way or form (which means it's not a free affair on their end...)Last edited by Carnivol; 08-26-2009, 11:02 AM.
