It's pretty simple now that I count the different combinations of survivors possible.
I was thinking along the lines of the bad, good and very good endings for both characters.

I see your 8 and say 7 endings. *The Price is Right move* Yea I was getting it confused with the remake, there's a crap load of endings in it. It's harder than I thought...sneaky endings. Oh well, the quest for the custom tag continues.

Also, I said after the Tyrant explodes (Tyrant death), so I don't count the "YOU DIED" as an ending.

A short status update: I only have the Rebecca healing scenes in the Guardhouse to do and I'm 100% done with RE1 USA PSX. I just got the Rocket Launcher for Chris so that almost seals the deal.

I'm going to go for a rough guess...so, for total number of RE1 endings :

Jill, Chris & Barry - Mansion explodes.
Chris, Jill & Rebecca - Mansion explodes.
Jill & Barry - Mansion explodes.
Chris & Rebecca - Mansion explodes.
Jill & Chris (no Barry) - Mansion doesn't explode.
Jill & Chris (no Rebecca) - Mansion doesn't explode
Jill alone - Mansion doesn't explode.
Chris alone - Mansion doesn't explode.
Tyrant survives.

The other one is the timer failure, but that isn't counted so it's about... 8 to 10 endings if you're counting the Tyrant surviving as two possible endings as well as either one of the Rebecca or Barry not surviving to the ending as the Chris and Jill - Mansion not exploding scene is reused then too.

So, I'm going with 8 or 9.

Whereas REmake has a total of 12 (13 including the timer), based on variations of the originals.

I highly doubt that I'm anywhere close to the correct answer, but that's just the amount I remember from when I was capturing and ripping cutscenes from RE1 PSX ages ago. ;

Almost correct Enetirnel, but I would say the total number of endings, after the Tyrant is dead, is the following:

Chris survives.
Jill survives.
Jill and Chris survive.
Chris and Rebecca survive.
Jill and Barry survive.
Chris, Jill and Rebecca survive.
Chris, Jill and Barry survive.

Which gives 7 total endings.

That's true, as the Tyrant one is actually an additional file that's added onto the scenes without the mansion exploding - which expands them as variant endings, but then there's also the Chris and Jill ending which is duplicated as well as another variant ending even though it's still the exact same one.

*Shrugs* Just wasn't sure if it was the collective total including or excluding duplicate scenes and the credits - as it's used for either character and the additional variations as the Tyrant living ones as they're 8 files collectively, but when we look at REmake the variations have been merged.

I had written it up in my post before, but ended up rewriting it. ^^; Anyway, thanks Trent.

Winner If you check the actual FMV files on the disc, the Chris and Jill survival one is just duplicated for both characters. Its kinda odd too, since it focuses on Chris even if you play as Jill, lol.
