  • Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought there were only 2 builds "available". The old and crappy one from playstation museum, and the one detailed on bioflame, which is probably the latest build to date.

    • Only 2 builds have ever popped up in the wild. The Curator build (4th era) and the Final (5th) era build (Inflames' old source). The others have only ever just been seen in videos or magazines. It is doubtful copies of those still exist, but you never know. Pre-2007 I would have swore it unlikely to ever see anything but the final era beta, and then the earlier build shows up.

      • But it seems more likely that if we ever get our hands on it, it'll probably be the curator build. Since inflame's contact was apparently tied to some way or another to Capcom, this build might have never been really released in the wild.

It would create a new problem though, if we acquired an older copy, it could probably ruin our chances to get the latest build.

I am personally interested in very early versions of the game (the blue era), and the "final" one. The curator version doesn't seem very enjoyable gameplay-wise, and rather incomplete.

I wonder if the unfinished RPD backgrounds that were found in the BH2 demo were finalized in the latest build and the curator one.

The version Curator reviewed is the most likely version that may eventually see the light of day within the community. It is correct that the final beta was in the hands of someone close to Capcom, and those builds were probably in-house only, so probably only Capcom employees and their friends/family would have them (and who knows how many of those copies may even still be left).

I don't think the early alpha build will provide that much more enjoyment than Curator's build. I'd bet that even if a disc of it were to ever show up, it would probably be like two or three rooms at best. At least the 4th era would have a lot more of the backgrounds and information stored there. The early versions are still pretty cool though.

Actually I think acquiring a non-final beta has more potential to bring a final beta (or I suppose other builds) out of the woodwork than ruin chances of it. Optimistically hypothetical, once a leak/release of an earlier build has broken the ice, there's really less of a reason to be so ridiculously secretive about the betas. At that point, owners may as well sell or trade, as a large draw of the game is gonna be already covered (much of 1.5's remaining mystery will be revealed if a 4th era build was leaked, even if not all of it). Which means that 1.5 won't be quite a gold mine anymore and owners are gonna know that and may take the opportunity to try to sell any of their original/developer pressed copies to people. Could be a great opportunity to sell a final beta, as there will probably be major hype right after an earlier build leak that could be taken advantage of. Of course, you could also argue that someone with a final beta may just feel that it's no longer important enough to potentially sell or come forward with it if an earlier build leaked. It just really depends on the owners and their positions.

Perfect post. I agree with all of this.

What build it is doesn't really matter to me. I'd just like to be able to play 1.5 in general. It would be like experiencing a whole new Resident Evil game. If I had a choice though, I would want the build closest to the final so I can roam around in the labs killing the zombie mutant gorillas and web spinner chimeras, and of course Beta Birkin too.

Actually what I'm thinking is that the few persons in possession of that final build wouldn't necessarily know that the available version is much older.

We'll see what happens, but I think that if we're not looking actively in Japan we might never find it.

                  Agreed.

My hope is for the final build.

Curator's is the 4th era, not 3rd. And yes, the CD videos came from 5th era.

                      • Is the 5th era one the complete game?

                        • The game was never fully completed, but the 5th era is the most complete version. Speculatively it was generally close to being done (around ~80% complete).
