    • I'm sure you've all seen this before but it has Chris's RE1 pic in the inventory screen as another placeholder too.
If he had a brain, he'd be dangerous.

I always thought that inventory was interesting. The standard arms reminds me of the "defense" items in the RE remake. Actually come to think of it, Capcom took a lot ideas from 1.5 for the future RE games.

        • And there is still a few things from 1.5 that haven't been used yet, like the character's clothes getting blood-stained and ripped when bitten by a zombie.

Speaking of clothes ripping feature, I remember seeing it in the Resident evil: Code Veronica Beta version video, but it got removed again in the final version of the game.

            • To this day, I still can't stand the excuses Capcom gave as to why they cancelled the game.

Mikami had nothing but good things to say about the game when it was in development, and nothing but bad things to say when it got cancelled.

I think Mikami liked 1.5 and 3.5, but he had no choice but to cancel both games because Capcom wanted them to be cancelled, not necessarily because he himself wanted them cancelled. And then he praised the new products he created, and said they were the right moves. It also fits right with the fact that he said he would not even play RE5. I think Mikami's decision to make RE4 action-like was to try to get on Capcom's good side, but I don't think the action-style is what he really wanted. You can see what he was going for with 3.5 (he wanted to make it scary), and I think after he finished RE4, he got fed up with Capcom.

There is nothing wrong with 1.5. And anything that is wrong with the game is understandable, as the game was only 80% and needed some touching up here and there.

Mikami said that if 1.5 was released, then fans would probably not look forward to part 3. But considering the crappy story writing and action direction they have chosen for the series, I would not have minded if 1.5 was released and the series ended on 2 or 3. At least it would have ended with some realism.

I can't stand Claire Redfield. What are the odds (realistic odds) that the sister of the main character from the first game would wind up in the city on the night of the outbreak, also teaming up with a rookie cop who arrives the same night, and is his first day on the job? It just sounds so planned.

They criticized 1.5's story for being bad, but I don't find anything interesting about the one we got in 2.

At least Leon being a rookie cop that had already been working for the RPD, and he is trying to escape, and Elza, a motorcyclist who happens to me a casual survivor, at least that sounds more spontaneous and realistic then the planned "I'm the sister of the main character from the first game" crap we got.

That's why I feel Resident Evil lost all of its realism when they cancelled 1.5. The original game felt realistic, and 1.5 looked realistic, but the realism went downhill from there. Who the hell finds a battery in a rotating statue (RE3)?

The puzzles in the original game made sense because it was a rigged mansion. The puzzles in 1.5 were more obvious and realistic. But when they remade 2 and decided to make the RPD an art museum, it made absolutely no sense for everything to be rigged the way it was. Pushing two statues to make a jewel drop?

I have never noticed that in any of the videos. I wonder if the feature was scrapped in the playable builds?

                • I think it might be in one of the videos, but I don't know for sure. I'd have to watch all of them again. But yeah, they were definitely in the game. I'm not sure if they took them out in the latest build, but they were in there. A couple of pictures of Leon being blood stained and having his clothes ripped were posted on the PlayStation Museum page a long time ago. I don't know if anyone saved those images or not. Perhaps they could post them on here for you?

                  • For those that want to seem some interesting images of 1.5, here is the link to a thread I made a long time ago on the Bioflames forum. These are some of the most interesting un-official 1.5 images from the final beta of the game.

I wonder if Mikami would be willing to do an interview now that he no longer works with Capcom and would like to further discuss RE1.5 in greater detail and maybe touch on some of these topics. I do agree that the police station in the final version just doesn't make a whole lot of sense seeing that the one in 1.5 was just all around much more like a police station than the one in the final. I could see that one argument might be that the puzzle solving may not have fit the realistic RPD police station than the converted library that we got in the final version.

This is interesting as well I've never seen pictures or videos of this feature in action.

                      • I agree with the ranter a few posts above, for the most part, about RE2. I found the RE2 precinct too far removed from reality to be frightening, and there was a large chord of contrivance about the survivors and their interactions in the existing RE2. Though Claire is probably my favourite character, I also share your sentiments with regard to the convenience of her presence.

What RE 1.5 had that RE2 seems to lack is the quality of actually feeling like you're in a location you could recognize in your real life. The RE2 precinct had a supernatural quality, but combining hokey science fiction with the idea of the supernatural strikes an unnatural chord that removes it from the realm of fear.

The above posted images all fascinate (partly by virtue of them being both unknown and their extrapolation now more or less impossible). The scene with Elza and Marvin in some sort of conference room, for example. The RPD's size and polish in 1.5 all lend a degree of fear simply because the zombies and such seem a larger threat if they can decimate a police station of that size and (presumed) equipment. The RPD in RE2 seemed sort of a backwater location with little defense. The cold and sterile atmosphere of 1.5's precinct, though probably more Japanese in inspiration, also creates an effective feeling of displacement, in me at least.

It's a shame, because I have fond nostalgia of RE2 as it exists, but I can't help but feel I would have felt about RE1.5 the same way I felt about RE1 when it came out: that is, scared to play it.

                        • I forgot to save the two screenshots of the beat up elza and leon that the Curator posted. I remember he was gonna show more but everything pretty much went sour after those two pics.

Can't wait to see a fully up to date 1.5 section.
