Yeah, I think the Curator situation was the worst. I heard about the whole situation and he even closed down the forums at the time. I actually went on the site just yesterday and looks like he never intends on opening it up again...unless I'm not seeing it

The whole episode was nothing more than an ego-trip, from "Biohazard 1.5 shown in the wild" to the end, it was done in such a way as to create as much attention and drama as possible.

I think the problem here is the focus on Curator himself. We know for certain that he isn't the owner of the disc that was bought out from under us. There is a chance he does not have a copy, just like he claims (heck, some people even believe he had received a large amount of video and never had a disc). But most people believe he made a copy and hence does have one. Regardless, the problem comes from his background. There was a large negative opinion of him and his actions/personality prior to the 1.5 incident that really fueled the fire against him. And that has persisted to this day.
Despite the personal opinions of him and his actions, it's still a fact as well that he does run a website about Playstation stuff including betas, and he shows stuff about them. We gained new footage and some info about 1.5 from him. While there is a line between showing off for greed/fame and giving a good-intentioned showing to the fans, in the context of Curator I don't think it really would matter. His website is (I'm sure some would say arguably) designed around preserving the content/betas and is flat out stated directly on his site that he doesn't release material given to him. He could have been a total nice guy, and those same jackasses who caused the trouble before probably would have still done the same. Consider that Robert Kendo got a lot of the same kind of treatment when he was showing material from the BH1 beta and said he wouldn't release it.
There are some actions that just aren't gonna help and only shine a bad light on RE fans or community members. Showing interest and dedication can be a good thing, but I don't think it's best to resort to personal attacks, broad negative statements about possible owners/collectors, and being overzealous.
The game will come one day, don't you worry. But it'll probably be another few years.sigpic

I know, threatening him was just plain stupid, and in fact I wasn't really referring to that.
But what I find really stupid is this:
"His website is (...) designed around preserving the content/betas"
When you want to preserve something, you distribute it on networks and you make sure anyone can have access to it. That way, the thing in question as a digital media will never disappear.
But stocking it physically in someone's house that could probably burn anytime? Or what happens if that person has an accident? Everything would probably be lost forever.
The idea is interesting, but the way he does it, I think, is just plain wrong.

I doubt he has a choice. Collectors aren't gonna sell/swap/lend him stuff if he distributes it, after all. I'd bet most of his stuff came with the caveat that he could not share it, and if you break the rules of the community you get black listed.

I hate when bunch of morons who threat the owners of the rare games like re beta versions and then the games slip away from us.
Next time when we find a person who claims we better let you and the other experts handle it instead threating them like moron.Last edited by Guest; 01-16-2011, 02:57 PM.

Exactly. If you don't have the cash to beta, don't try to beta. Let the money do the work, and hope that some dude finally shares it.
If you don't have anything to offer a possible sellers it's kinda pointless. Basically it's a bunch of people talking about what they'd do, without any possible means of actually doing anything. Oh, and threatening people and making things worse.

I love those times I've been part of group purchases for various things (both things unreleased and now released), and there's been like a billion people going all
"YEAH! MAN! I'D GIVE ### FOR THIS ONE RIGHT NOW! SIGN ME UP!"
and then you're like
"Okay! We've locked it down and the money's been fronted. Splitting things evenly, you'll only have to pay down 1/3 of what you said you were good for. This is the PayPal to send your contribution to."

Thats why its best to be honest. I know when we tried to gain some money the last time, I could only offer a few bucks, I kept it honest and that was what was ready to go. People make outrageous claims thinking it'll help the situation, meanwhile all it does is hurt it.
