I know a lot of this is covered in other topics, but I could not find a place were ALL of it was covered, so thought that I'd start one off!
I've just installed Windows 7 Home Premium UK Retail version and want to get the old Resi games running as well as 5.
But it's not just Windows 7 I want to cover in this topic as I know the games are REALLY stubborn to get running on all systems bar the ones they were designed for.
So ANYBODY who has any info, tips, programs or ANY personal knowhow on how to get the games running on any OS please chip in.
First one I'll add is for Resident Evil 3 under XP running Direct X 9, the game will not run past the Intro screen unless you disable Audio Hardware Accelleration in DX9's diagnostic settings.
Resi 5 works fine on Windows 7 in it's Direct X 10 mode for me, but not in it's Direct X 9 mode, as I found out on my old XP OS the game takes minutes to load the textures/shaders so for me to get it to run I had to back up the file called shaderlog.slg and edit it in a text editor to delete all the text in it, save the file in it's default folder (game directory/nativePC/) then the game loads as fast as you like!
I know there are LOADS of other tweeks so lets get them all in one place, one I've got a problem with at the moment is Resi 1, I have the original UK BIG Box retail version and it's acting up like a bugger. I can get the game loaded, but it's running fast and has no sound!
My system is as follows.
Windows 7 Home Premium UK Retail,
Asus P5E Motherboard,
nVidia 8800GTX,
4 GB memory.
