    Now don't get personal.

Basically everything in the series can be, you just have to disregard certain other things.

With Wesker's Report, though, it's especially hard since it's based upon the earlier games but gets the details given there all wrong (Sherry's whereabouts, Ada's mission, what happened to the pendant, the organization Leon joins, and to a lesser extent Wesker being present in Raccoon City during BIO2).

Rule of thumb: You can get the most enjoyment out of the series if the "canon" is not that important to you. Just enjoy the stories you like!

To get back to that, there was definitely a reboot both in game design and story, or else we wouldn't have ended up with the final version of biohazard 4. Mikami wrote the current story that is so widely disliked by everyone, while the originals were created by Sugimura.

But, although it's generally accepted that Mikami was the main man behind retooling the game completely, there is information floating around that suggests quite the opposite: Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the producer of the game, forced that direction on Mikami and he himself wasn't largely involved with the actual planning. The game designers basically just adapted his behind-the-shoulder camera from Hallucination biohazard 4 and turned it into a full-blown action game. Mikami fought with his heart's blood to convince Hideki Kamiya's original team to make Coolness biohazard 4 (the very first version) into Devil May Cry rather than a BIOHAZARD game, so it seems only logical that he never wanted the final game we got, which also explains his radically different story.

When you put it that way, I agree. I thought you meant a more radical reboot.

I didn't know Noboru Sugimura wrote the scenario for Gun Survivor and Dead Aim. Now, I understand why Gun Survivor is mentioned at the beginning of REzero.
