  • HELP: Someone that owns the PC version of RE3 (verify screencap)

It's like this: Someone posted this screencapture of what I think is the PC version of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (it could be running on an emulator, not sure about that). According to him, you can see in one of the pictures seen in the background a picture of an old Nickelodeon character called Alex Mack. Check out the pictures below:

    Original image:

Now here's the original image with a picture of Alex Mack that looks similar to the one seen in the background and to the left of the screen:

I've tried to verify if the image the user posted on that other forum is real or not. However, using my console version of RE3 it's impossible to determine if the screenshot he provided is real or fake. Because the resolution is pretty craptacular. Take a look:

So basically, I need help from anyone that owns the PC version of RE3 (or a higher resolution copy of the game - Dreamcast perhaps?) and maybe someone can verify if the screenshot has been photoshopped, altered or it's actually for reals.

    Thanks in advance!

    Yes and no.

Most of the PC backgrounds are like that, however for some odd reason the odd few are a little lower in res. Why, no idea. But for the most part, yeah thats how they look. That image you have is not in their actual resolution, which is 640X480. The same backgrounds are in the Dreamcast edition as well if I remember correctly (someone will likely correct me on that if I'm wrong).

Here is a couple of screens from the PC version in native resolution:

Rombie, the reason that I ask is because one of the pictures in the background is apparently that of a Nickelodeon character from the 90's.

      Check this picture out:

Someone posted it in another forum and I knew it was fake but when I tried to verify it by playing the home versions of the game, the resolution was not that great.

Can you verify that the picture is real or faked?

It's after you crash the cable car and you get to the Clock Tower. Just before you go in and you see Carlos Oliveira.

It looks to match the original PS version image you have (shape of the hat etc, are fairly clear even at the lower res). As people have pointed out in a few other threads here, one specifically more so than others, a lot of the images in the backgrounds of RE2 and especially RE3 use images like this of real world items as pictures on the wall.

I tried finding a screengrab of that area from my personal collection when originally posting, but it seems I only went as far as the cable car when I originally took screen grabs for my website back in 2001. I'll double check, but I'm sure it'll be easy to confirm though.

Edit - Re-checked my files. I mischecked the final folder, which was from replays. I have most of the game screen grabbed. Here is the image from that room unedited:

I thought it was a fake... so it is real.

But why would Capcom or the RE team put the photo of such an obscure nickelodeon character in that picture frame? Does it have any hidden meaning?

The Secret World of Alex Mack show was about a teen that got doused with a weird chemical liquid that turns her into a freak show.

Maybe it was the whole biohazard motif employed in that series that resonated with the guy in charge of RE3's backgrounds.

                    Thanks Rombie, VGM-Collector & DONNIemo

I didn't think I would learn something new about RE3... LOL

Since that really is the case, I wonder who is in the other picture?

Interesting find, thanks for posting this.

No problem. As doomed linked to, the threads I was talking about earlier, the environments are littered throughout with things like this. Check them all out for more of the same.

As for why the image, the person who modeled the room could have been a fan of the series and just decided to add the picture there, or they needed a photo and that was the first they found, could have originally been temporary and got left there, could have been for a million different reasons. The fact there are some images from the game backgrounds with other 90's show references tells me it's probably intentional though.
