Yes that's the one, thanks! Wonder what it did and why is it there, plus some people say that the computers replaced the typewriters. Also, wonder what the second picture with the computer screen is for, if I knew what that Japanese text was then I would know. And it goes Now Running repeatedly and then Break. What does that mean?

That idea of having computers as saving spots sounds like a fitting element in a game that was trying to modernize upon it's predecessors setting...
Neither footage nor official statements of Capcom prove this idea as as fact, but it could very well have been.
Especially the fact that other parts of the gameplay have been affected/modernized in a similar way make this a possibility.
I was just thinking about the fact that 1.5 threw out RE1's herbs as a method of healing by relying solely on first aid and antidote sprays!
Sounds like a good example of a "modernized" game setting, don't you agree?
However, this brings me to another thing that bugged me...
The typewriters were gone for sure, but if the game really used computers as saving spots then why can we barely make out any save room like places which have computers?
We have backgrounds for the entire latter half of the game.
Item chests are rendered in 3d, thus not visible in the background pictures, but the PC's do not move, so they are unlikely to be 3d objects just like the typewriters in any other classic RE game and should be part of the background!
Also was there any ink ribbon replacement?
We have a translated item list, but no "saveyourgame" like items to be found on that list...
Maybe the game instead relied on an instant saving feature like many other videogames do?
You know, an option to save the game anywhere, anytime...
Please excuse my throwing out a lot of thoughts behavior, but I just wanted to give this thread a little something to discuss!
You know, I am always fascinated when 1.5 related discussions turn up!
If I can't play the game I at least try to satisfy myself by talking about it and sharing some opinions and thoughts about the RE that never was...
But to get back to the topic and that PC in the factory, I do not think it's purpose was to be a saving spot...
I'd rather say it was used in the very same way the computers in RE1's lab and the final RE2's RPD were used, to unlock doors and allow further progression in the game!Last edited by Upaluppa; 07-01-2010, 05:03 PM. Reason: Made a nasty typo that just had to be fixed! ;)

The one with the close shot of the computer is odd. The borders around the screen are the same kind of borders that are used in the inventory. The image can be found as a background file, so I'm not positive what it is used for in the context of the image. The image of the screen itself is also a background image. Aside from the obvious English text, the Japanese text translates to "System Error". So it was probably used without it's appropriate "puzzle" item, code, ect.
Edit:
Neither footage nor official statements of Capcom prove this idea as as fact, but it could very well have been.

Wrong about relying on solely on first aid and antidote sprays. The herbs were replaced by colored medicines. Red, blue, and green and mixes of them.
Also was there any ink ribbon replacement?

The server room of the 1.5 lab which became the "moth's nest" in RE2 also has a computer which most likely serves a similar function as the one in the finished game's rendition of the lab!
But I do not remember any background of similar fashion to the factory computer one which makes me think that this cursor/inventory like feature was not available for the lab PC...Last edited by Upaluppa; 07-01-2010, 05:13 PM. Reason: Just the usual: typos, t-virus infections and being tired...

I like to keep my own database of 1.5 media!
So here's the 1.5 variant of the server room computer:
And for the sake of it, here's it's RE2 counterpart:
Something interesting to note is that the final RE2 computer only has one "desktop" background while the 1.5 one has a whole set of different ones available just for this one PC...
Or maybe I am wrong and the set is used for several computers throughout the lab...
But the backgrounds are numbered and all the computer desktop screens used in the lab section of the game come right after the server room PC background in terms of numbering...Last edited by Upaluppa; 07-01-2010, 06:03 PM. Reason: Added a picture of the RE2 lab PC for comparison purposes.

The 1.5 one, I can see some image on the monitor though I'm unable to see what it is clearly, but yeah, these are the exact same computers only minus the hand scanner for the 1.5 Computer. Awesome! Oh btw, how much of 1.5 media do you have?

Well, I have a complete set of 1.5 backgrounds from the BH2 Trial Edition, a whole bunch of videos from bioflames and the PSM curator, all of INFLAMES pictures of the 1.5 complete disc build minus the ones that were never shown to the public, a dozen of magazine scans as well as pictures from several websites and some artwork scans from the Resident Evil Archives...
If you would like to see any off the 1.5 stuff let me know and I'll gladly upload it for you!Last edited by Upaluppa; 07-01-2010, 05:56 PM. Reason: Added a rough list of my 1.5 media collection.

No problem!
I am always happy to see another Resident Evil fan showing interest in 1.5!
But uploading is going to take a while and I am quite tired now...
Shouldn't be that much of a problem if you'll have to wait until tomorrow, right?
I'll try to squeeze the whole collection into a compressed folder and upload it to rapidshare!
I have just accepted your request, by the way!

Oh sure! No problem, and thanks for accepting. Until then, moving on! XD
Next up, I found something familiar with one room. In 1.5, everyone is familiar with the Factory Entrance with the Police Cars outside the place. Now if you were to compare the camera angles with that and the Back Parking lot of the R.P.D. on RE2, you can see that the angle showing the garage door and the front entrance of the Factory are the exact same angle.
.....Okay I'm out of other stuff until I find more images, so...anyone have anything to add here? ^^;
...OH WAIT! They are items. The Key Cards. On the Trial Edition, there are 4 Cards, Blue, Red, Yellow and Green. We know that the Blue Card was for unlocking the doors in the hall, red for the Weapon's Storage, but what was the Yellow and Green Card for?Last edited by Alexia_Ashford; 07-02-2010, 07:53 AM.

The key cards are indeed the 1.5 equivalent to the mansion keys in RE1.
All four cards were more or less functional in the Trial Edition and could be inserted into the main hall PC.
So the idea of using card keys to unlock rooms in the RPD was directly carried over from 1.5 to the early builds of RE2.
However, in later WIP builds of RE2 as well as the final release the old RE1 style mansion keys replaced the key cards once again...
Only the red and blue ones were kept.
Another example of the modernized setting of 1.5 which heavily contrasts the final RE2 which was more like a step back...
The final game was pretty much an exact replica of RE1's style with the return of herbs, typewriters, RE1 item chests, mansion keys and a very mansion like police station...
I still can't believe how unfitting Capcom's statement about 1.5 being canceled because of it's similarity to RE1 looks if you consider this viewpoint.
Even the gameplay of RE2 is more similar to RE1 with fewer enemies and more focus on puzzles than fighting...Last edited by Upaluppa; 07-02-2010, 10:54 AM. Reason: Corrected my statements. Thanks to Enrico Marini for clarifying!

If my memory is right the green one unlocks the hallway which leads to the basement (where the Heart Key is needed in the final game) and the yellow one unlocks the press conference room.
The hallway's door for the basement if the office was accessable) is item 41 hex which is the D key. The press conference room on the trial is unlocked. Not to sound rude but I don't know where you are getting this misinformation.
Yeah they key cards probably opened the doors in 1.5 since it was supposed to be a hightech police station.
Well since the title screen is not using a font other than the basics, they probably didn't bother to include it since it was a copy that would more than likely stay within employees hands. And where did you get such a clear screenshot?
