In my opinion, if RE6 is to succeed and simultaneously not be a reboot, it will need any combination of these components:
- Ada Wong
- Sherry Birkin
- Zombies
- 'The Organization'
- TriCell
- Less third person shooter, more survival horror
I third this. Add optional, selectable characters a la Resident Evil and RE2, with overlapping stories and I would be a happy little Resi fan. Official sequel to RE2 maybe??
I want the game to be a reboot or alternate universe with new characters. I think they've taken the original Resident Evil story as far as they can go now that Wesker is dead.
It would also be a good way to bring Umbrella back into the mix because they could have a different timeline where Umbrella is still around. Maybe make an alternate canon branching off of the Resident Evil 1 remake or something.
What I don't want is the return of the classic controls. The way Resident Evil 4 and 5 played were amazing, in my opinion, and I would like to see this continued. Worse controls does not mean more terrifying. It just means more frustrating. Also, in terms of gameplay, I don't want the main story to be required co-op. It would be cool if they had a co-op bonus game or something, but it really didn't work as a part of the main story.
From a content standpoint, I would love to see the return of zombies. The zombie-like things on the conveyor belt (and Lost in Nightmares) in RE5 got me all excited even if all they did was jump on you if you got close. Beyond zombies, I'd like to see an all new set of creatures. We've had enough hunters, lickers, and tyrants, although variants on those could prove interesting.
I would want RE6 to be more like 1.5. The game should take place in a different city, with a new biohazard outbreak, the game should have atmosphere, and if they are not going to go back to the static camera angles, fine, but at least make it more like 1.5. An obviously I want a new cast of characters, no one we already know. And it should be single-player, not co-op. Make the city environment modernized, and make zombies try to grab you through the jail cells. Make a "Resident Evil" game. Stop giving us this action shit. If I wanted action shit, I have plenty of other games to choose from. >_>
Reboots are all the rage these days. The Spider-Man movies, Prince of Persia series, horror movies in general, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to see a game coming out in 2012 called simply 'Resident Evil' that has an all-new cast and storyline. It would suck to leave the loose ends untied from the original series, but I'm just saying...I can totally see it happening.
Right now I think I'd rather see loose ends tied up via another form other than a game(s). We need new characters that have no ties to previous ones, new settings, new situations. I do like the old characters and the series was arguably based around them I suppose, but as someone who's been involved in the series since original RE1 first US release, I just feel it's time to retire the main cast (esp. in playable form) and get something fresh going. Unless they can conjure up one final all-encompassing game to tie up the majority of loose ends, then I would rather the loose ends be explained in other media, such as files or video. Otherwise every new game will have more loose ends, and it would just be too continuous.
I'd also like to see a return of multiple character scenarios to choose from and multiple endings based on pathing and choices made. I don't think it would cause any canon issues as they'd have to do eventually is declare which ending is the story canon one, like many other games do.
As long as they tie up alot of the loose ends they have left then I dont mind having new characters and such but for them to just leave it as it is because its getting old. I consider that to be very sloppy and uninspired. I actually liked the direction the story was going in LIN and would definatley like to know whats going on there.
Like I said in my other post they can add a new character to the series but please dont change everything. If they added a new guy/girl please continue on the story in the direction LIN was taking it and at least refference the previous characters. I'm sure people like Wesker and Spencer would be pretty well known in the RE universe, surley the world would know about them so please refference to them and dont complteley ignore what has already happened. Do this Capcom and you got my support.
I agree with everyone who disagrees with co-op. A two-player (or more) mechanic is best left for action games; it kills the horror, atmosphere, and suspense for me.
Um guyz RE6 is going along the "new villain who we haven't seen nor really even knows exist" route. Read the file in LIN...the big hint there is ALEX WESKER!!!!!!

I can't believe people are actually hoping for an appearance by Alex Wesker. This series is truly lost.
And what's wrong with that? I happen to think Alex Wesker could be a potentionally interesting antagonist of sorts(keyword potentionally). However, I don't think we'll see him in RE6, since I have a pretty strong feeling RE6 won't feature any past elements of the series previously in play, and will be a fresh start, whatever that is, but I personally think the whole Alex Wesker thing in LIN was dropped for the sole purpose of promoting Revealtions. Really, it makes alot of sense than Capcom throwing random story details out in DLC for a WAY OFF game like RE6.
But as far as Alex Wesker being a "Wesker replacement" of sorts--I think people need to remember. Alex Wesker has no physical or genetic ties to good ole Albert. All they share is a name since Alex Wesker was the head of the Wesker project. Sure, we don't know what he looks like or anything(unless he was the one chained to the chair in the Revealations trailer), but there's no reason to believe he's a Wesker replacement of any sort in the sense of having very similar attributes(super strength, speed) or character qualities we associate with Albert(the arrogance and smugness).
Of course, if Capcom dresses this Alex Wesker up in tight leather and gives him sunglasses and talks of world domination--then yes CR29, we have a problem. . . .a VERY BIG problem.
Might as well just flush the series down the toilet at that point. . .not that RE5 didn't make a good attempt at it.
And what's wrong with that? I happen to think Alex Wesker could be a potentionally interesting antagonist of sorts(keyword potentionally).
The question is, why do people think that this Alex Wesker would be the next villain? Because he/she worked at Umbrella and has "Wesker" as a surname? Those aren't enough reasons for a background character that was mentioned in a file to become the next great villain of the series.
