I just love it when wesker lands on his face then gets smacked against the wall (No wall running for you!).

Damn! I haven't played the Dreamcast version in a while, It really needs to be beeped now.

I have CODE: Veronica X on the Gamecube, which is identical to the ps2 version right?

I wonder what people who played REC:V when the game was released thought about Wesker. Not only his revival and super powers weren't explained back then, but he also just vanishes after that "fight" with Alexia (I haven't played CV recently, but IIRC after that scene Wesker doesn't show up again).

I played the original CV when it came out, it just seemed like fan service at the time really.

At the time people online speculated that Resident Evil 4 would deal with whatever organisation Wesker was part of now. I guess this didn't really happen until 5 though.

When I played the original Code Veronica (never got further than the Claire/Wesker scene in X), I thought Wesker was just a fan service as well as "potential" to be more of a stable antagonist than the mysterious Umbrella. Something to vary the formula from "break into Umbrella Labs, find a tyrant, kill it with a rocket launcher (or similar item), Blow up the lab and escape". Though in the original, Wesker only showed superiority over Chris in terms of speed strength and agility, which could have been done just to make the T-Veronica Virus look like it was more superior than it really was. Simply because Chris was Weskers Ragdoll but Wesker was Alexia's, where as in X, Wesker puts up a bit more of a fight.

Not all the scene is rendered in the DC version MV_010.SFD on disc 2 contains the part where lights up before walking down the stairs.

I also played the original DC CV when it was released and still play it more often than X. At the time I didn't really think about fan service, I just thought the story was really going somewhere. The cut-scene when Wesker meets Chris in that lab place for the first time was absolutely awesome and I made a special save so I could show my friends later (those were the days!). It was really quite something that Wesker was back, at least to me.

People speculated a lot on what Wesker's new mission/organisation was. I remember someone joking (actually I think it was Project Omega) that maybe HCF stands for Half-Circle Forward (think typical Capcom move), so whenever I see HCF I always think Half-Circle Forward rather than Host Capture Force or whatever they later named it.

I gotta play the DC version again! I got a Code Veronica Dreamcast incoming form a friend in Japan. The Disc drive does not work in it but I'll swap in a new disc drive from one of my other DC's.

Is there any sources or references for the whole "RE:CV was supposed to be RE3" thing? Or is it all speculation and conjecture?

Sadly I was going to ask the same thing.

A lot of what I posted earlier is going off information and discussion at the time, but not a lot is concrete as to why certain titles appeared on certain consoles, or with certain title names. I can for example definitely find evidence of Capcom's multi-platform motivation from old news stories and interviews from the time, but it doesn't give anything that specific as to why say Nemesis is RE3 and Code Veronica was not.

Some citation of sources in their video would be nice.

I remember playing the original CV with my friend at his house everyday after school and we thought it was hilarious when Wesker got thrown about by Alexia it made fighting her more intimidating cause Wesker was shown to be much faster/stronger than Chris but nothing compared to Alexia. When I finally got CV:X for my PS2 (With Weskers Report Woo)
and I got to that scene my friend and I were like WTF! Made Alexia less of a spectacle although having seen my friend beat her so easily (2nd attempt I recall) on the Dreamcast probably didn't help . . .

Anyway vaguely on topic I always found it weird that RE:CV played and controlled like RE2, my friend didn't notice as much cause he only had an N64 but after RE3 CV felt really wooden with no dodge and having to click to go up stairs etc . . .

I thought for sure this was confirmed somewhere and even with a reliable interview source. Could've sworn someone here on THIA posted it, too. But, looking through old threads, I can't seem to find it, which is disappointing. Most likely, I'm probably just remembering the actual speculation about the issue. I've certainly read the theory more than once, or at least part of it (mainly the part about RE3 originally being a side-story).

I was happy to find that the dodge function was removed in Code Veronica. I never could get the hang of it in Resident Evil 3 and would often dodge when I didn't want to.
