Lets talk about Resident Evil Afterlife (Spoiler)

Like I said, my issue is not with the people who like the movies(for whatever reason). Knock yourselves out. Turn your brain off for a couple hours and enjoy what's on the screen. My issue is with the people who complain about the movies and yet still pay to see them.

Right there is what Archelon is talking about. You keep saying stuff like that which is insulting to people who do like the movies. I don't have to turn off my brain to watch the movie, I like to pay attention (shocking, right?) And again, "for whatever reason" implies that we shouldn't like them because it's bad.

Here we go again.

1. They're 'action' movies, are they not? When I think of action movies, I think of mindless explosions and cool special effects. Movies you can watch without thinking too hard, purely for entertainment purposes, hence the 'turn off your brain' sentiment. I'm not saying you're stupid if you watch them.

2. 'For whatever reason' means 'for whatever reason.' If you like them for the action, if you like them for the special effects, if you like them for Milla Jovovich, if you like them for the storyline...'whatever reason' you have for liking it. I never 'implied' anywhere that someone shouldn't like them. Like I have said MULTIPLE times...I don't give a baker's fuck if you like them or not.

3. Stop being so goddamn sensitive and nit-picky.

You know, it's kind of funny. Looking back on it, they actually fixed one of the issues I had with the original fight scene in Resident Evil 5.

In the original fight, Sheva somehow just magically breaks free from Wesker's grip despite the fact that he's strong enough to crush steel with his bare hands. That never made any sense to me, but in the movie, they actually had Claire stab him in the leg with her knife.

Frankly, I was rather surprised they actually thought to do that.

Good thing we still have the games, which are in and itself literary masterpieces that will be known centuries down the road for its brilliant writing.

So yeah.....I believe it was Santino Rice in the second season of Project Runway that said "You can't polish a turd" and he was right. Though I will admit this was better than the third movie, but I've seen hand puppet videos on Youtube that are better than that anal bacteria.

Even the action in the movie was abysmal. Too much slow motion, too many predicatable moves by Alice, the not so super powered but still super powered woman, and too little reason for me to care about any of the characters. I feel the movie tried to copy too much from RE5, not only in the Wesker/Chris/Claire fight, but the whole damn game minus the ruins and the volcano.

Digger majini/zombies and executioner....actually...I didnt mind them. The executioner needed more time to be a true threat though. Naturally, Alice was present, so any real sense of danger for Claire was completely broken. But that's just it. Alice ruins the concept of fear that the audience should get in supposedly tense situations. You know the important characters are going to live, and those that are just taking up Mila's screen time are going to die.

Chris was portayed moderately well, all things considered, and was probably the best written character (that's not saying too much). There was a hint of the sarcastic guy that the video game character sometimes displayed. It would have been nice if the character of Alice didn't exist. Perhaps then characters like Claire, Chris, Luther, etc could be better written.

Wesker....oh dear god. Duel wielding made me snicker, getting his head blown off by spare change didnt stop him, and then he has to sulk in the ocean for a few minutes tangled up in a parachute. For those of you that missed the parachute but plan on seeing the movie again, its when Luther is coming out of the drain. Wesker's infection this time around was....lol. He wants to injest you. Right. I see the fan girls just dripping like leaky faucets over the thought.

Jill....wow. Way to spoil the cameo there, whoever decided rolling the credits with the cast in before the scene. Jill's costume seemed like such a poorly done, homemade cosplay outfit. How the hell did they manage to make Wesker's outfit look so nice, yet hers looks like she was looking for old jumpsuits at the Salvation Army?

Alice...fanboys be damned, she was almost as bad as she was in the last movie. Super powers get drained, yet she still flies around, defying gravity, and manages to outrun a horde of zombies when they are surrounding her. After a speeding jet crashes into a mountin. And she also managed to find time to put on make up during her search for survivors. I know this isnt necessarily the character's fault as much it is a technical detail, but still.

Overall...the movie was a letdown. Poorly done action that we've had in all the movies; bland, empty character development; borrowing too much from the game; moderate/short running time which made the movie feel slightly rushed; 3D was meh. I'm glad I only paid halfprice (would have been free yet my friend's manager was in the booth with her).

I honestly think the movies would be better if they would remove Alice. Not add in more game characters, but remove Alice and try to write one or two others that could be suitable. I dont want the movies to mimic the games 100%. I want something entertaining with zombies, not action but horror. Alice fans can be butthurt if they like, but she's a terrible character.



edit- I'd like to add that while I dont really listen/care/read reviews, there is a reason why professional film critics, people that know the industry, think this movie is shit.

Absolutely, by far, the worst of the 4 of them.

I went into the theater not expecting much of anything. But I actually left the theater thinking that the movie was even worse than I expected it to be.

Wesker's voice actor was terrible, and the plot was just awful.

The movie moved way too fast, had bad acting, and had a bad story.

Thoroughly disappointed.

I seriously hope this was the last one... I thought Extinction had the best story from a non-RE Fan perspective... but this one just sent the series completely into the toilet.
