And to the movies "haters" should chill out a little; from the begining I've always thought that these movies were just that. They aren't call Resident Evil the Video Game Movie; they are just Resident Evil The movie; you know, they borrow some things from the merchandise, characters, enemies, etc.
Indeed. But the problem is that they are still bad as movies.

Well, i just watched the fourth movie in the Resident Evil series :

RE5 has been confirmed already. However, Paul W.S. Anderson said that how RE5 plays out will depend on what the FANS have to say about it.

"We’ve been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it’s probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It's going to be a more interactive process.
I think he means to say that he'll listen to the fans of the movies, though. Not the fans of the games.

The simple fact that it's pissing so many people off almost makes me glad that there's going to be a fifth movie.

I simply don't have the same sense of entitlement that so many fans seem to when it comes to Resident Evil. Or any fandom, for that matter.

Your post made me think that you actually enjoyed seeing fans becoming pissed off with the movie, and that's what I found strange.

                If wasn't the case...

I just felt more like being snarky than anything, really. I don't actually care if people are upset that another movie is being made or not. It's more of an issue with so many fans of the games having this feeling of somehow being superior to the fans of the movies, and God forbid anyone actually enjoy both the movies and the games.

You see it in every fandom, not just Resident Evil. But because Resident Evil is such a broad-ranging IP, from games to movies to books to toys and so on, you're going to have people who only enjoy one particular facet of the franchise. And if someone enjoys the movies but not the games, that doesn't make them in any way lesser than those who have "been there from the beginning" with the first Resident Evil on the Playstation.

You don't just see it with fans of the movies, either. People who like the new style of RE, and especially people who only got into the series because of the new style of gameplay, are vilified left and right by self-proclaimed "true fans." And much like someone who enjoys both the movies and the games, if you enjoy both the old and new style of the games, then you're seen as some sort of aberration.

It gets really tiresome after awhile.

Perhaps I'm one of these weird mutations of fans who absolutely loves the old style of games, likes the movies, and also enjoys RE4 (not 5, but that's because it bored me, not so much with the gameplay).

Then again, I liked RE4 after I learned to accept the old gameplay is never coming back. And I've been there from the very beginning of RE.

I'll have to disagree with this.

If someone like only the movies, it's very different. The movies aren't really Resident Evil, if you rip off the title.

Why? Does it make someone like me better than a movie fan then because I've been there since RE1? It doesn't matter what someone is a fan of, it doesn't make one person any better than the other. We're not superior somehow because we like games instead of films.

I think some criticisms in this topic are a little silly. The criticisms of the movies are at times unfair and it would seem as if everyone in this topic (as Prime Blue said) think the games are literary masterpieces.

I mean, the T-Virus name in the game arose from the fact that some dude in Umbrella decided to call their first B.O.W a "Tyrant". It actually makes a lot more sense in my opinion to name a virus after the shape of the cells. I mean, why not?

The Wesker shooting his subordinate was not "forced", his subordinate was questioning his orders. This has been done in a lot of media with "bad guys". Dragonball Z, Battlestar Galactica, etc.

Also about the "pain in my neck" comment; there's nothing at all to suggest Wesker has known them for a long time. Chris and Claire were in his way and trying to stop him getting to Alice, so it's hardly completely baffling that he'd say "You're a pain in my neck".

Now, I'm not a huge movie fan, I wouldn't even really call myself a movie fan at all, they're just "alright". I just don't understand the excessive hate and the criticisms that seem to be nitpicking and just for the sake of criticizing it.

Also, one last thing - Why would Anderson listen to game fans? He's not selling games. Game fans aren't going to make him money. He'll create a film catered to what the movie fans want, so it will make him money.

That's the thing, though. Who are you to decide what is and what isn't Resident Evil? The same goes for any of us.

Resident Evil is many different things to many different people. Heck, you'd be hard pressed to even settle on a few, core ideas that define Resident Evil. Even the series' creators and developers have different ideas about what it means to be Resident Evil.

There is no one thing that is unequivocally Resident Evil, save for perhaps the very first game in the series, since that started it off. Heck, you can even find fans out there who would argue that Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 3 aren't "true" Resident Evils, because they stray from the original game's formula into more action-oriented approaches.

                            • The answer it's simple: the games and the movies are two completely different universe from each other. The games came first, and besides the movie being based on they, nothing fits between the two.

So, if a person like only the movies, I think that this person it's different from one that like the games, or even the games and the movies. I never said superior or anything like it.

Borrowing the game concepts, the name of the game characters, nothing of this approach the movies from the games. It's Alice's history, and will ever be while she continue being the main character from the movies series, without relation with the game's original history.

And, detract the game to enhance the movies... That is silly. So, it's ok if the movies are shit pieces of work, the games aren't so great itselfs. Sigh.

Actually, you did. Archelon posted saying that being movie fans doesn't make someone any lesser than someone who's been there from the beginning, and you said you disagree.

I'm not detracting anything from the games. People shouldn't criticize the movies as if the games got everything right, when to be honest, they didn't. People just didn't complain about it because we enjoyed the gameplay and atmosphere of the game, and it was a great game, so no one really thinks to question if it was perhaps a bit silly to call it "T-Virus" after calling a B.O.W a "Tyrant". People just make the same unfair criticisms on the films because it was an experience they DIDN'T like.

                                A bit like;

Hey, I didn't like Apocalypse because Jill looked slutty in a mini-skirt! Even though her outfit is based off RE3 anyway, but it was alright then cos it's a game!
