Atrocious.
Ignoring the Resident Evil title, the film doesn't work.
Spoiler:
There's no zombies for about 40 minutes. And even when there is, they aren't very threatening. Not until the executioner comes along to open the gate for them. Why does he decide to come along? He has a big axe, he must like murdering things... Earlier on you see Alice just kinda sitting on a beach, no concern for her safety. What happened to the everpresent threat of zombies? Why are the zombies different to the zombies in all the other films? Why use coins as ammunition? Why do those survivors have gear to land a plane on their roof if they think landing a plane on their roof is a crazy idea? Why is there a guy that speaks like he's had a frontal lobotomy? If the film is going to raise questions, it should at least be prepared to answer some of them. The amount of slo-mo is ridiculous. The gratitous 3d slow down effects look baffling when watching in 2d.
Wesker in CV/X was a rip off from Agent Smith in The Matrix. Now the Wesker in this film is taken from the Wesker on the games, but of course not everyone knows that, so it just looks like a REALLY cheap Matrix knock-off about 10 years too late... And of course Spoiler:
Claire's amnesia is the film immitating the first one, because the whole amnesia arc worked so well for that film... Granted they didn't use it as a way to drag the characters forward through the story like in the first (whoever the executioner was taking his cues from did that), but aside from delaying the explanation of the origin of the mind control devices, it didn't really do much).sigpic

Well even if you guys hated it, RE5 has probably been greenlit.
It has already made US$73.2-million. So it made back its budget, which was like US$60 Million.

Hey, did any of you ever think that maybe, even if we know the movie is shit, we want to see it anyway because we, you know, want to form our own opinions with conviction? Or perhaps to find even a moment, a shred of saving grace? Or even to see if it was AT LEAST better than Extinction?
No. No we're not mindless zombies. I'd throw in some very brash direct insults but Darkmoon and Alexia have already made it clear not to throw out personal attacks.

Probably one the best statements anyone has ever said about these movies in comparison to the (sadly) superior pieces of work that haunt the internet.
Thanks for linking that video. I really had some good laughs from of it.
I also enjoyed Phelous' rant about the movie. His original three part review of the preceding films were absolutely hilarious. Months after originally watching those, I've still found myself skimming snippets of 'em just for his brilliant commentary.

Oh man... As I expected, by reading most of the spoiler tags, Mr. Anderson did it again. He made a big pile of crap a mountain of gold. And the worst part? We're going to get a sequel. Mark my words.
I hate when people think that I like the movies because I'm a fan of the games. I tell them that I rather like to be impaled, castrated, burnt alive, and then someone to fuck my corpse than watch another of Anderson's Resident Evil movies.
So I will skip this one and the rest that might come. I hope Capcom does another CGI one like Degeneration. It was cheesy, but at least it felt like Resident Evil to me.

I honestly enjoyed the film. I look at it now as an alternate universe, because the Resident Evil game series is hardly what it was anymore.
I played Outbreak File 2 the other day and I couldn't believe how much I missed the older game play. There was actual tension and fear since I couldn't just blast my way through enemies anymore (Was playing VH solo as Cindy Lennox).
As for Afterlife:
- I was entertained.
- The 3D was well done.
- Had a few laughs here and there.
- Liked a lot of the characters, despite not that much character development.
- Some action scenes were really great.
- Interested to see where the ending takes the next movie.
I give it a solid 7/10
Spoiler:
The others I would rate:
Resident Evil: - 7.5
Resident Evil: Apocalypse - 4.5/10
Resident Evil: Extinction - 6.5/10

I've just watched, and:
Spoiler:
- Found the characters very boring, so I don't minded if they would die or not;
- I'll have to say, it was funny to see Wesker blowin' up all the Alice's retarded clones;
- Wesker killing his subordinate is one of the most forced "I'm THE bad guy" scenes that I ever saw;
- I found the T-shaped cells from the virus a pretty lame explanation to the name of the virus;
- The great objective of Wesker in the movie is to eat Alice to stabilize his mutations. Seriously;
- Except for the names, none of the characters based on the ones in the games, reminded the originals. Chris, Claire, even Wesker... Just names throwed in the movies, I don't recognize any trace of their personality similar to the game characters;
- Alice's suppose to kill all the bosses, without question. Period.
- The Chris/Claire meet it's useless. Claire has no memory when it happens, so whatever, just another one in the group.
- The natural mutation from zombies to zombies with majini mouths and infected dogs to adjules it's an insult to any game fan.
- The great number of Umbrella airships coming from nowhere it's just an obvious "hey, we need to make a sequel". The movie could have ended when Alice says her final version of the message from Arcadia...
I didn't like this movie, but I'll have to say that it's didn't worse than Extinction.
But doesn't need much to be better than that piece of shit, I think.

I actually ejoyed the movie; but I thought the story just move to quickly, by the end I was like " what, already'?...
And to the movies "haters" should chill out a little; from the begining I've always thought that these movies were just that. They aren't call Resident Evil the Video Game Movie; they are just Resident Evil The movie; you know, they borrow some things from the merchandise, characters, enemies, etc.
