I thought RE Zero looked like an outsourced game, imo. It didn't seem like Capcom made it.

If you're using X-Box Live to figure out no one is playing RE5, what are you using to figure out that people ARE playing RE4?

The problem, for me, is that the newer RE games are competing with other games to give you an exciting action experience, such as Halo, Uncharted, and Gears of War among plenty of others. Especially Mercs. Other games multiplayer is just...better. They lost out by not quite being a true action game and not being a horror game at all.

Because they play Mercs and Versus. The RE4 comment is unfounded BS you made up.

Not sure of the official figures but I love RE4 and hate RE5. I played RE5 once when I first got it, second time for the Professional achievement then have never gone back. Doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Resident Evil 5 come to sell over 5 million units across both console platforms, Capcoms' biggest game in sales this generation outside Japan. There's a small niche of people playing mercs and its related features still (a very small amount) compared to when it first come out and it wouldn't be surprising considering how long it's been out for and the lack of online support post gold edition. The online space doesn't really have much incentive to bring back recurring players for that title. Resident Evil 5 didn't get the universal acclaim as the previous chapter did, or the acknowledgment of evolving the genre like with 4 (which has influenced some of the big games this generation).

The main difference between Resident Evil 4 and 5 is that 4 had a much bigger impact across the console front, even when Resident Evil 4 was just a local game, the game had countless hours spent on the campaign – even now people still play via their cube/wii to do another run through - and also mercenaries. When looking in retrospect, Resident Evil 4 is still regarded as the best Resident Evil title out of the two from many people and is still played today even with the online console space being mainstream across the globe now, it is still being played today. Resident Evil 5 failed many people's expectations to what it could of been, even with the huge success of sales. The term failure can be looked at many ways and also the person's opinion about the game.

                          Nice in-depth analysis, ZF!

Commercially, RE5 did not fail. However, to me, as a Resident Evil fan, it dropped the ball big time.
                          Mass production? Ridiculous!

                            I have to agree Det.

The onlything that save its misery was Lost In Nightmares, and that could have been better as well.

While I loved LIN, it could have been an hour or two longer. The building tension was fantastic, though. I actually really liked DE, too - it's funny when you like the add-ons more than the actual game...
