This was very hard to vote on. Unexpectedly, I personally voted for Resident Evil 5. I know that fans from the very beginning of the series, like me, wouldn't vote that way, but I found the action to be very exciting, and I loved Albert Wesker's part in the game, except for his miswritten demise. All in all, I think that the best games of the series are between the remake of the original, the original Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4, & Resident Evil 3. Resident Evil 0 wasn't so bad, in my opinion, I probably enjoyed seeing Wesker & Birkin the most (especially William Birkin with his snide taunting to James Marcus, loved it). If only they could take certain elements of games such as Resident Evil 4 & Resident Evil 5, the action & excitement, combined with the eeriness & story telling of the original Resident Evil.

It's hard, but after playing the game Dead Space, I do think that it's possible to combine action elements with survival horror. Create a game with moments with the quality cutscenes of Resident Evil 4 & 5, with notes and diaries like police chief Brian Irons (if anyone knows what i'm talking about, the guy was batshit insane). Create more jumpy moments, creatures busting in through windows, reaching in with arms after you when you least expect it, a body being dragged away by a Cerberus, catching a view of a creature on a monitor. Give us unstable characters such as Dario Rosso (), to make the setting uncomfortable. To make a new and improved title, honestly, combine elements of survival horror with action, balance it out.

You can combine action with any genre.. but it has to have some drama with it too otherwise its just senseless.

Thanks for the votes! I combined all the votes I got and sent them over to Deadside who's updated his total results: http://www.capcom-unity.com/resident...=131#471401809

If a mod wants to close the poll, that's okie.

Nah the gameplay is good. If you can play RE1 and RE2 then Code Veronica should be no exception really. Sure it didn't have the finer touches of RE3 like not needing a button prompt to go up stairs, but to date Code Veronica has the best knife gameplay I've ever experienced. Who'd have thought the knife could actually be useful?

As far as design goes I didn't mind the real time and as some would say "cartoony" look to it. Back then I just had this on my dreamcast and it seemed to blend in well with the rest of the DC lineup. The FMVs were improved and looked more appealing than RE2 or RE3. Not to mention that despite backtracking (which never bothered me in the RE series to begin with) we did have lots of locations to explore from rockfort prison to the island to Alfred's place to Alexia's to the Antarctic base to the Spencer knock off, etc. The only complaint I had was a lack of Wesker which Code Veronica X later took care of with the additional cutscenes and "action packed" ending. Still I would have preferred if Wesker's Report was in the actual game as opposed to a preorder DVD.

So even though REmake is my favorite I'd give Code Veronica an honorable mention.

I agree, action can be combined with any element of fiction, however, part of the difference is in the writing. Not only need there be drama, but also characters to fit the situation. For example; people like Dario Rosso, Alfred Ashford, Brian Irons. People to make the situation dramatic itself. Sick and tortured stories such as Lisa Trevor (& family), Sir Alfred Ashford, otherwise known as Nosferatu.

Action & drama often go hand in hand, but the base of this series is survival horror, and if it can bring that back along with the newly implemented action & drama, with tasteful & creative writing, it could really create something special. For me, part of the drama I loved were seeing mangled corpses with eerie diaries, NPC characters like Brian Irons & Alfred Ashford, who caused obstacles in the story. That's the stuff I believe is in the heart of Resident Evil. Ricardo Irving was interesting, but not quite what Irons & Ashford were.

                It's a tie son!

I voted for the Remake, because to me it represents everything that Resident Evil should be. The graphics are still better than some new games almost nine years later. The atmosphere/mood is top notch. It was not only the first RE game that suprised me with it's voice acting (in a good way), but it was also the first RE game to seriously scare the shit out of me.

                Favorite. Ever. Hands down.

                  RE1 original - well, director's cut.

Just the right amount of cheese with my RE - and live action. Gotta love the live action, no matter how bad - it still poops all over any of the films.

I love the remake of Resident Evil 1. I believe that with that game they went as far as they could with the "classic style" Resident Evil formula and perfected it.

I'm going with Resident Evil: Outbreak. Because even though I've played Resident Evil 2 first and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X shortly after that, it was Resident Evil: Outbreak that got me hooked into the Resident Evil series.

My all time favourite RE game is RE1 (original) followed very closely by CODE: Veronica.

Should probably combine both Outbreak games into one.. more or less the same. Might as well combine all the gun survivor games too, they haven't gotten a single vote (and probably won't ever get one).
