It was great wasn't it? I liked just about everything in the game except for the plot, mood and the characters...hmm, that's not good. I had such high hopes for 3.5

Obviously there's a reason why they pulled the plug, but I can't help but wonder if they had gone the way they were originally going(and thus inevitably affect RE5), would this thread even exist?

      • My interest has definitely waned over the years (at least since RE5 which was a major disappointment to me), but I still feel the pull to play an RE game, usually 2 or 4, every now and then. The interest is there, it's just not as loud as it used to be.

At least I have Mass Effect and Uncharted to look forward to...

        • I certainly wouldn't mind if they took the RE 1.5 or the RE 3.5 stuff and made entirely new games with them. I just want them to bring back The-Horror (bah-dum-tish)

          • I want them to bring back the old gameplay. Horror could be interpretted in many different ways. I don't think it would feel the same to me even if they did keep the over-the-shoulder perspective but kept it scary, like Dead Space. I know it won't happen because over-the-shoulder is more up to date and more profitable, but the old gameplay has a special place in my heart and that is what "Resident Evil" is to me. Going through creepy rooms, looking for items, collecting keys and ammo, things bursting out, etc.

Personally for me, I don't find the AI to be a problem with me at all. I have so much fun playing RE5 that I hardly pay any attention to the AI.

Even if the AI partner (be it AI Sheva or AI Chris) does give me something I do not need (like a Red Herb, and I don't have a Green Herb to combine it with, for example). I usually just discard it without complaining about it.

I guess I'm just a bit laid back then most people on THIA when it comes to certain things regarding Resident Evil video-games.

                  • Y'know.... more people should've bought this damn game as much as they bought RE4 and RE5. Maybe things would've remain the same.

But then those same ppl thought Zero sucked MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more than RE4 and RE5.

                    So there you go.

That's why things are like they are.

Personally I enjoyed zero and feel like it gets a bad rep. There are some things that irk me (the hookshot) but overall I feel it's a solid entry.

That said, I don't think more people buying zero would have changed RE4 back to something more similar. It had already started a departure with 3.5, afterall.

But RE Zero pre-dates RE 3.5, doesn't it?

RE Zero started as a classic RE game on the N64 back in 2000.

Development of RE4 (the one that didn't become DMC) officially started in 2001. The fog version came about around 2002, the same year RE0 came out. Followed by the Hooked man version in 2003.

I have a cold and my old noggin might be playing jedi mind tricks on me. So this info might need to be confirmed.

                        • Doh! I knew I was forgetting something. Yeah, my mistake on that one (I think I was remembering a magazine that had a screenshot of the old RE4 that came out before 0).

Still, what you said about the original RE4 that became DMC does seem telling of how they wanted the series to change even before Zero's lackluster sales.

                          • The only thing I don't think many people liked about RE0 was the removal of the Item Chests for storage. Having to have items strewn about the floor was messy and transferring the items from location to location is an even bigger headache. I really wish there was a co-op feature for RE0, but I did like that you could somewhat control the second character with the C-Stick... Pretty usefull sometimes, like on the pressure plate puzzle before the Church level and the Bat Boss.

                            • I used to use one character as bait to lure enemies into a line of fire. But yes, the items being strewn all willy nilly was a bit annoying, especially for me, being a person who organized his item boxes by item type and variant.

                              And also, RE 3.5

This refers to both the "Fog version" and "hooked man" version correct? Would have been interesting to see where those would have ended up if finished.

Also, I do want 1.5 to come out. Update it to current graphics and maybe some of the gameplay elements from REmake and 0. Think it would be a decent title.

                              • I liked Zero, I actually bought a copy when it came out. That plus REmake were the two games I played a lot of on the Gamecube. Just dredged up a rather fond memory actually, I remember on Christmas morning way back in 2002/3. I was awake at like 4am in the morning and my mum let me open my present early, so I was up from 3/4am playing on the Gamecube. I remember the anticipation I felt as I placed the REmake disc into the console, as this was back during a time when RE was considered 'oh shi- scary times' to me.

Up popped the 'doo doo doo do do doo' Gamecube logo intro, and then the horror began. It's nice knowing that I got over my fears and was well rewarded with an enjoyable experience. I miss that, you know? Hell, I remember when I was about 11 and reading up on RE2 in magazines and such, reading reviews. The story absolutely enthralled my young and impressionable mind, I was fascinated by the game and wanted to play it even though I knew it would scare the bejesus out of me.

My first taste of RE came with a demo disc given away with Official PlayStation Magazine back in 1998, on which was a playable demo of RE2. I didn't even make it off the streets because I was so afraid of the damn game, haha. But my fear fuelled me to play more, almost like a craving to be scared like watching a horror movie under the blankets, you know you shouldn't watch but you do anyway out of a combination of terror and twisted curiousity.

It wouldn't be until CODE Veronica X came out that I would complete an RE game for the first time, which I remember getting on the PS2 when that console was released back in 2000/01. Played it, got through it, enjoyed the game, then went back with the newly acquired experience I had to play the other games - starting with REmake and RE Zero. Then finally the day came when I felt ready enough to challenge the terrifying might of RE2, borrowed a copy, put the disc in and from that day forth it became my favourite game in the series.

Apologies for rambling like an old fuck but I felt a wave of nostalgia all of a sudden and had to convey that across as text.
