While being able to carry that much equipment around with you was unrealistic, it was more realistic in the sense that an egg was 16 times smaller than a rocket launcher, and thus didn't fit in the same size inventory slot (like the old games or RE5). I know that RE0 had bigger weapons take up two slots, but it still wasn't the same. I'm also convinced that CAPCOM would have kept the grid inventory style for RE5 if they hadn't implemented the bullshit co-op system and thus an inventory where people could select weapons on-the-fly. Rest assured that any depth to a game's control scheme will simply serve to piss off the casual gaming crowd.

I don't think it would feel the same to me even if they did keep the over-the-shoulder perspective but kept it scary, like Dead Space. I know it won't happen because over-the-shoulder is more up to date and more profitable, but the old gameplay has a special place in my heart and that is what "Resident Evil" is to me. Going through creepy rooms, looking for items, collecting keys and ammo, things bursting out, etc.
While I don't despise the over-the-shoulder view, I greatly preferred the old, set camera angles simply because it was more horrifying. The angles were like watching a horror movie, but one that you controlled. You rarely could see what was behind a corner - how many times have lickers or hunters decapitated you because of this?! It was scary! With 3rd person, you can walk up to a blind corner and simply turn and face the corner to see what is on the other side. It sucks the tension right out of the game.

This was incredibly annoying. I see no reason why they couldn't have allowed both dropping items anywhere and item boxes. Hell, that goes for all the classic RE games; it simply makes more sense. Why wouldn't someone be able to drop an item? Why would they have to use an item box to get rid of it?
    Mass production? Ridiculous!

I believe it just added more to the gameplay, since they were more or less puzzle games concealed by a mask of action and horror. I can't even begin to tell you how many first aids I used for no reason other than not having enough space for some fucking weed killer or a battery. I think the classic games would have lost a bit of the challenge if you didn't have to put up with the item box/inventory storage. Now that the newer titles have little to no puzzles, it makes perfect sense that you can drop items as you please.

Weed killers and batteries that fit in the same-sized slot as a small gem or a rocket launcher, nonetheless...

But then those same ppl thought Zero sucked MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more than RE4 and RE5.

            So there you go.

That's why things are like they are.
I found nothing wrong with zero.To me it felt like playing remake, except theres 2 people teaming up to survive.

            • Well some ppl found it unbearable that the 'magic boxes' where gone. And that in its place, you could drop and pick up items (like you do in real life). And that was considered a drag by those that hate having to use a bit more strategy in their game.

Yea good point, with RE4's inventory they made you pay for picking up that rocket launcher or shotgun.

                  • Finally got around to playing and beating RE5 with a friend. It wasn't half bad at all. I personally enjoyed it more than 4.

Well that's just the thing... RE5 only truly shines as a co-op game.

The days of playing RE as a haunting, methodical solo-experience... those days are probably gone.

Thus why so many are losing interest.

                        • I have lost complete interest in any of the new games that Capcom has any plans of announcing..... RE1, RE2, RE3, and Remake will always be the tops of the series, however, it's time to move on from trying to finish off the series...... I believe Capcom needs to reconsider The DC series... If you think about it, they can ignore DC3 and esentially continue from either DC1 or DC2, personally, I would prefer they continued from DC1 and the reason I say this is because I feel the series is better suited for survival horror. I have not played DC2, but from all of the action I see, i'm not to impressed. The original DC had a story unlike most RE games themselves (excluding RE2) and was impressive in more than one aspect... You had the atmosphere, tension, and of course the scientific storyline which all made for one hell of a game.. A good survivial horror game is one where as you keep going through the game, the story develops and delves you in deeper and keeps the interest level high... Constant shooting and action gets repetitive and less interesting.

                          • I would be very interested in seeing DC brought back.

But I'm not letting go of Resi just yet.

                            • This is the first year since I played RE1 original that I haven't played an RE game. A good thing or a bad thing? Obviously the series has lost its way, RE6 will revive interests temporarily like RE5 and then it will cool down again.

                              • I'm not out of interest with the series, but now the games are few and far between I find myself filling out the gaps with lots of other titles. As such I find there's not really a great discussion of anything anymore because we are still waiting on where the series is going to go with the storyline.

Like Dot says much of the old plot lines have been resolved and tied up so now it's just playing the waiting game to see what's going to happen. I still browse form time to time to see what's going on, but that's about it really. Still love the series though, i'll never give up on it.
