  • Imagine if... RE2 got a gamecube-styled remake for the 3DS

think about it... the 3DS is built with the gamecube standards, and they already showcased remakes of Ocarina of Time & Starfox 64.

I'm just dreaming about it of course, but it's a pretty cool idea at least
My favorite thing about the gamecube REmake was it's two exclusive mechanics, self-defence weapons and crimson heads. It would be interesting to imagine that.

maybe it could also have an optional rebirth mode like deadly silence, and since it's the 3DS... imagine that freaky cutscene introducing the Licker with it's drool and tongue popping out of the screen, and adding 3D effects to the Blood and Gore.

what do ya guys think? if they did a good enough job it would be amazing!
some of you might be drooling just reading this, god I wish I worked for Capcom...

Wow i'm suprized a lot of people are responding. But I really think if they made a remake they should do a good job or not do it at all, I think thats the reason it's a taboo topic at capcom. perhaps they are afraid to touch the classics because they are terrified that with out proper developing guidance it would fail, and deep down Capcom knows they are pissing the fans off too much...

I like the idea. A RE2make combining real-time 3D models with pre-rendered 3D backdrops could work really well. Don't think they'll do it, but I'd buy it (at a high price) if they did.

I'd rather they didn't, aside from prefring new games and story if are going to remake something then should do it on the best hardware.

Yeah... I can see Kawata already doing the whole "lets test the user base" routine. Just like they did with the Wii.

If anyone were ask him about it, he would say "Let's see how Revelations and Mercenaries 3D does on the 3DS and then we'll talk about doing remakes".

But last I read about RE2 being remade, I think that's sort of a taboo topic at Capcom. I believe Sven from Capcom-Unity said it. And he always was embarrassed to bring it up. Since the reaction would always be like "Aw, not that same shit again!".

I'm honestly just being goofy with my imagination
I doubt it would happen, but a GamecubeRemake-styled RE2 Deadly Silence would sound as absurd as it would sound awesome. my mind likes to wonder stuff like that

While I would support an RE2 remake in any way I could, I would prefer it to be on a console that utilized a TV and not a tiny, hand-cramping handheld. I also simply don't care about 3D.
            Mass production? Ridiculous!

I honestly would rather have the remake on a bigger Television console too.

I frequently try to imagine what an RE2 remake would look like. I definitely want to see the self defense weapons applied.
as far as the crimson head mechanic RE2 seemed to have a lot of zombies... the first thought would be where to put the kerosene jugs, as for certain rooms that have loads of them at once it might be a good idea to remove 1 or 2 of them, and they even need to wonder how much the fuel canteens capacity should be 2? 3? perhaps 4? there is a lot of careful attention that must be balanced

I think 3D is mostly a gimmick, but for a game like resident evil, 3D would be a cool accent for the particle effects (mostly the gore and explosions) but appear particularly in the cutscenes

I honestly don't know how practical crimson heads would be in an RE2 remake. The Arklay incident involved a relatively small amount of researchers becoming zombies when compared to a city with thousands of people. It would feel out-of-place if there were only a few zombies per area in an RE2 remake (like in the Remake); there were parts in RE2 where 5+ zombies attacked you in the same room! Could you imagine that many crimson heads in a room?!

I also think 3D is generally a gimmick. Perhaps it's just because I'm a bit older than many of the posters here, and can remember when games used to be fun and addicting without having amazing, life-like graphics. I don't know. But I can't stand all these movies being released in 3D where they charge you even more money just to get the damn glasses. It's a marketing gimmick to me, aimed mostly at small children and teenagers, as well as an excuse to make movies and games have less real substance and more "wow" factor. Movies and games are plenty entertaining in "boring old 2D."

While I would much prefer a console version of an REmake-style RE2, if they released it for the 3DS I would not hesitate in picking it up. There's no reason it couldn't be a great game on the 3DS, though admittedly it would be a little less scary on a handheld. At this point though, I would take it in any form if they're willing to put in the effort and make it.

...Oh wait. Capcom... effort... My bad.

Maybe. They have most of the map assests that they made for DSC (anyone play that??).
At this point I don't want an RE2 remake. If I want to play RE2, I'll just put the disc in my playstation thanks very much

I thought DSC was just going to be a test, as well as an asset creation for an eventual Resident Evil 2 Remake.
I could be wrong, but I would hope that I'm not.

there is nothing wrong with making a remake of re2,just as long as they don't mess it up.i mean look how re1 came out when they remade it.

But that was before the action = sales mindset began. I'm eternally worried that we'd get something terrible instead of a remake.

I thought that remake of the RPD in Outbreak File 2 and the Raccoon City Labs from Outbreak File 1 and Resident Evil Zero meant that we'd get to see a remake for RE2 soon, but that wasn't the case. All the pieces are there, Capcom. Just add it all together!

I like that they added a lot of more areas to roam around in RE1's remake and if they ever did a remake for RE2, I would LOVE to explore more of Raccoon City. Perhaps interact with more NPC's than just the old RE2 cast (Brian Irons, Robert Kendo, Annette Birkin, Marvin Brangh). I'd definitely like to see more rooms added to the RPD (and for the love of god and all that is holy, get rid of that retarded nerve gas from Outbreak File 2).
