  • Ice-T loves RE1 - Thinks newer RE games have become something different

Yup. It's been rather slow when it comes to RE news, I know... But this sure beats talking about how much Milla Jovovich acting sucks (How old is that news report/thread anyway?).

Anywhoo.... In a recent interview with Game Informer, musician/rapper/actor and VETERAN gamer Ice-T chats about videogames. And at least twice during the interview, he talks about the Resident Evil franchise.

Ice-T: The game that really got me hooked was Resident Evil back in the day.

I was always into Mortal Kombat and shit like that, but once I got into Resident Evil I really got hooked – survival horror, all that shit.
    And...

GI: Push comes to shove, what’s your favorite game of all time?

Honestly, I have to say that I’ve spent the most time playing the Call of Duty games. I didn’t really like World at War, but I loved Modern Warfare and the new one. I’ve spent the most time playing those.

But, from a classic perspective, I think the first Resident Evil in the mansion. That was the coolest shit ever because it was new.

I play the new Resident Evil, but it’s not the same. [But] the O.G. Resident Evil – I’ve never been blown away by anything like that.

    That’s a classic game

Interesting find Pikminister. I knew that Ice-T was a gamer, I just didn't think he played the Resident Evil games. Even the first title from 1996.

Little by little he gains more and more of my respect. And I'm glad he views the new direction the series has taken as something different than Resident Evil.

I read this recently as well. I was going to mention it until I forgot all about it, probably because it was about Ice-T. I gotta say though, after reading that interview, I haven't liked Ice-T this much since watching "Surviving the Game" back in 94. It's worth tracking down the interview, he says some pretty hilarious(and true)stuff.

Ice-T is the shit! I see him all the time on Law & Order taking down rapists n' shit. His quote "I play the new Resident Evil, but it’s not the same" is perfect, because while the newer games aren't terrible (RE4's gameplay is arguably outstanding), they retain little of what made the series so unique and fresh in the early years.
          Mass production? Ridiculous!

I knew I liked this guy, haha.

I always enjoy him on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and I think it's great he's such an avid gamer. Adorable.

Hell yeah, I remember watching (Leprechaun 5: In Da Hood) w/ Ice-T. Shit was hilarious!
Cool to see he is a Resident Evil fan!

Tank Girl was an awesome movie

Yeah, Tank Girl is pretty damn good. The comic though, is just leagues better. And also much more insane.

Just goes to show. There is nothing like the OG (Original Gangster) of Resident Evil Games!

Ice-T understands more about the series than the majority of people on THIA.

I say the same about Malcolm McDowell when people talk about Killzone 3.

Malcolm McDowell is amazing in anything period. I don't know what it is, but that man's voice always gets me at full attention.

Ice-T is an amazing guy, especially if you enjoy Law and Order:SVU. Guy's an actual gamer without a doubt.
