  • But that hasn't stopped them from showing in-game footage in all of their previous trailers, even with as bad as it looked.

And I think most gamers would rather see actual in-game footage than a cg trailer, anyway.

Of course, and there's bound to be a E3 game-play demo at the show floor for the press and others to play. But I bet at the current moment most people will remember the CGI trailer having a stronger impact on them than the current build on the game already.

And then they'll see the actual gameplay any hope they might have had from the cg trailer will be utterly destroyed in a shower of bitter tears.

...on second thought, maybe cg trailers are a good idea.

The catch 22 of all things when it comes to those trailers, sadly. Hardly any of them live to that level (only one I can think of that was pretty much almost 1:1 in many areas was Kill Zone 2) of expectations.

            • Which is precisely why I think game companies should only release in-game footage. At least then you have a better idea of what you're getting, even if the final product is noticeably different (e.g. Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resident Evil 5).

I'm pretty sure it was stated in the very first interview of this game that it was not cannon. I don't care if Slant Six thinks it's cannon, it's Capcom's franchise, hence it's ultimately Capcom's decision.
http://www.oxm.co.uk/27280/news/slan...vil-storyline/ - It's from the Creative Director minion in Slant Six, true, but since Slant Six are the ones actually making the game and Capcom are simply hovering in the background, occasionally gesturing at the big sack with a $ on it, I'm inclined to listen. I truly hope it's wrong, though, because if it's non-cannon I'll be a lot more forgiving of it's fuck ups.

                • I'm loving the new trailer so much, even if its not gameplay.

Yes! Beltway all the way! Definitely either him or Vector for me, but most likely him since I already know a number of my friends plan on using vector... Heh Heh Heh Boom!

He talks bollocks. Gaiden doesn't "change the storyline" either. Doesn't make it canon.

                    • You don't call killing Leon and replacing him with a shapeshifting BOW "changing the storyline"?

Gaiden was released at a time when Leon's death could have been quite possible. It didn't go back and retroactively change events. Operation Raccoon City on the other hand is pretty much a cluster fuck taking a cue from Umbrella Chronicles and ignoring the established canon. From the Hunter Alpha, faux-USS members, completely different Raccoon City, optical camouflage outfits which are apparently limited to only one person in the world, "SPEC OPS" nonsense, throwing in another Tyrant just because and god knows what else.

                        • It depends - so far, despite the big build up, we've only seen Leon hunted in a FMV sequence which may or may not be in the game. It's not impossible that they've dropped the Kill Leon thing and are now trying to make this a cannon entry, so Capcom can include some story information for future games. It doesn't mean it gels well with the previous story, and it doesn't mean it will end well, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

Of course, that could be Slant Six wanting to make more than a fun, throwaway game in the hopes that they'll be contracted to do a sequel, and if there game is part of the story then it's more likely. Until both sides are in agreement, it's difficult to say which way it'll swing. Which means we'll find out when the game is released, or maybe when the supplemental materials for it show up.

                          • Wow the latest trailer is absolutely horrible.

Operation Raccoon City is about the worst concept ever for a Resident Evil game. Like ever. Something about seeing the RPD officers chased down and shot just doesn't sit right with me at all. They are the goddamn heroes! :p

Nah, not convinced at all. Going to take some amazing to turn my opinion around now.

                            • Personaly I love the idea It's nice to play the other side. it makes a nice change to play as the bad guys instead of always playing games in the view point of the hero's its a random concept and yes its strange and new (well new to resident evil anyway)but its not a numberd sequel its a stand alone alternative universe take on a very successfull franchise.

Alot of shooters are out at the moment and capcom are not going to ignore a cash cow when they see it, Game companys are only true to the fans when it suits them its always going to be about making money and if they get the idea that making a shooter/serviver whatever is going to make them money there going to make it wether we like it or not simple as.

Its not out for a while yet there just trying to hype it up they may release actualy gameplay footage closer to the release date, at the moment there just blowing there own trumpet and trying to get the game as much attention as they can.

And hopefullu mabye a demo will come out soon to, then we can decide if its worth getting it or not.

Personaly Im looking forward to it and I'll probably get it more as another game to play online with my friends as I dont have nearly anough online games lol and becouse I love the resident evil franchise. And lets face it if people stop buying resident evil games they will just stop making them the moment they realise a loss of prophet.

                              • First of all, I want Lupo to be playable so bad. She's the only character I'm excited about.

Now, I have a theory these USS characters are going to parallel the Outbreak survivors. Bertha (medic) = Cindy. Lupo (strong female) = Alyssa. Four Eyes (smart) = Yoko. Lupo also looks VERY MUCH like Alyssa; I should know because I spent way too long on that damn game. Four Eyes looks like Yoko (she even has something on her back... maybe for storage?), and Bertha has Cindy's hair. Vector is the Kevin, I think, and two more male characters will probably be announced. I know this game is being made by Slant Six, but the similarities between characters so far is striking.

Also, I don't think Lupo and Four Eyes would have been shown with their names announced if they weren't going to be playable. To me, the video was an introduction. But what makes me nervous is Lupo's obviously of higher rank than Vector in the video, and I thought Vector functioned as the team leader. If so, I could see her getting killed off. BUT! I'm confident she'll be an unlockable character at the very least, as will Four Eyes. I'm very excited to see what's announced tomorrow at E3!
