Outbreak has it's flaws. The loading times if you didn't have a hard drive, the difficulty in getting online (now impossible), lack of option for VOIP and occasionally iffy AI support for us single player mugs (although still better than Sheva's AI, it must be said) did give a lot of people a frustrating time. And a lot of folks didn't like the infection timer and constant stream of enemies, as it rushed them and didn't allow the careful exploration some fans favour.
Still, it was a good game. I'd certainly buy Outbreak File #3 over ORC, or even the first two combined and given online support and chat. The stream of enemies and virus meter made me feel harrowed, the graphics are excellent for a game of it's time and the scenarios are pretty fun and creative, especially in File #2. Others mileage may vary.
I think Slant Six is ignorant of Outbreak for two reasons - one, they're going over the same ground, only with a raw action title and not survival horror. The play styles (and crappy plot AR/no it's really canon bollocks) are the biggest differences, really. I doubt they want people to compare the two games since they have to know there action shooter isn't going to appeal to all the old school fans and will compare the two unfavourably.
And second, Outbreak is a minor title of dubious canon. Also like ORC, at the end of the day. They don't have to acknowledge it, so they're not. I fully expect ORC to have areas, events and people that utterly ignore the events in Outbreak (and probably only nod vaguely in the direction of RE2, but never mind) in favour of whatever Slant Six has planned.

People dishing Outbreak? It was the best Resident Evil title which used original and new characters without them being thrown in as forced bullshit like in most RE sidegames so far. It had a much more serious feel to it, gameplay was great and the only thing which was problematic was lack of VOIP and loading times. Those didn't even concern those who played it in SP. Outbreak truly felt like a series of "The best of Resident Evil" episodes.
This dung here looks like it wants to be a shooter, but all I see is potential frustration and TDM matches in a subpar game with zombes thrown in as a distraction.Last edited by Member_of_STARS; 06-13-2011, 05:13 AM.

It's either a genuine memory lapse, or Capcom cares so little about Outbreak that they didn't even think to involve it in their mission brief for Slant 6 Do people need any more confirmation that Outbreak isn't coming back?
That said, you would hope that Slant 6 would take a bit more interest in the series outside just what Capcom has told them. Unless they did but skimmed over Outbreak?
Dunno, all seems a bit poor to me. Hilarious, but poor.

My point is that with those sort of parameters, there really isn't that much competition is there?
