But why would the BBFC review only the pre-rendered cutscenes and not the in-engine ones as well?

    • I meant that maybe they only consider the prerendered ones actual cutscenes. You know, like the scenes you might find in a cutscene viewer, for example.

      • It's not MGS or Xenosaga here. I think this game could get by with short cut scenes (FMV or in game) as long as the game play is full enough to feel like a complete title.

I think the bulk of conversations these characters have will already be during the game play anyways.

What I'm curious about regarding the cinematic sequences will be if they made alternate ones to accommodate for each of the four characters selected out of the six or perhaps the cutscenes will simply show all of them together.

My point is, why would they consider reviewing only the FMV's and not the in-game cutscenes.

That's like reviewing RE4's pre-rendered intro and ignoring all the in-game generated cutscenes. Such as the one where Leon's face gets impaled and the other nasty shit that happens in almost all of them.

Unless nothing of great relevance happens in the in-game cutscenes from ORC, I don't get why they would ignore them or not consider them worthy to be called cutscenes.... unless they were a bunch of static screens like cutscenes from the N64 era.

Maybe I'm not explaining myself well enough here.

Look at a game like Uncharted, most notably Uncharted 3. There are several scenes in that game that occur in-game, scenes that you can't pause or skip. These are separate from the FMVs that would, if Uncharted 3 actually had a movie viewer, show up in said movie viewer.

The difference with games like RE4 and RE5 is that all of their cutscenes are in-game, so you would have to count them, whereas a game that has both FMVs and in-game cutscenes, it's possible only the FMVs are counted.

Maybe they are counting everything, but personally, I don't really consider the moments when Wolfpack encounters Nicholai to be cutscenes. On the other hand, the monitor footage of Nicholai betraying his comrades is a cutscene.

            • For the record, "Operation Watchdog" is from the S.D. Perry novels. Never mentioned in the games.

              • Ooooh the plot thickens. Maybe Nicholai will go into full rapist mode in this game.

I mean did you see the way he was eye-****ing Lupo?

                • Beltway seems more like Nicholai's type.

                  • 19 minutes does seem low...even for a Resident Evil title. I guess there's some dialogue during playable scenes and such. And files (for worth they'll be - I'm half expecting them to mostly be RE2/RE3 files with shiny new errors) maybe. But given this game is meant to be retelling the story or RE2 and RE3 from a different view point it's kinda disturbing that there are likely more cutscenes in one of the two games than this...

It's kinda hard to work out, though. Dead Space has 55 minutes and Left 4 Dead 44 minutes. That's gotta cover the in game scenes for those, so why not ORC? Then again, it's 'Submitted Runtime' so it may be that those are the only parts that are possibly gonna put it over the 15 rating?

                    • ORC will be canon, in much the same way that Gun Survivor 2 is canon. The entire game will be a training simulation for potential USS candidates. Like how Gun Survivor 2 was a dream sequence.

                      • ...is it disturbing that a simulation during the aftermath of Raccoon City makes a lot more sense than the game does currently?

All those RE0 haters (you know who you are!) sure gotta admire how that game transformed the irrelevance that was GS2 into a canon entry... and apparently, will do the same with ORC.

Huh? What does RE0 have to do with GS2?

                              • Think about it, it would be the ideal testing simulation for potential USS candidates. Running them through a holodeck simulation with the safety protocols turned off.
