It's Umbrella. If the program accident came with safety protocols, they'd have turned them off, smashed them and fired the guy who built it.

Who knows, maybe Revelations or RE6 will make have lots of ORC references as well. And hopefully it will have the same effect on it - in terms of transforming it into a 100% canon game as its makers claim it is.Stuff to remember: Avoid forums if you're having a bad day.

Yet, as always they will be those that thought it was and still is irrelevant.
Me? I could care less about if it is canon or not. I'm all about the gameplay with games. But if games feature a decent plotline to go with it, beautiful. And if that plot is considered part of the canon, better still. Since that means that ppl will not get into arguments over that issue.Stuff to remember: Avoid forums if you're having a bad day.

@ Pikminister,
I understand what you are saying. A lot of people back in the day considered Survivor just some half ass attempt from Capcom to make a gun shooter (which it was) although the background story was indeed one of the more interesting concepts out there. A lot of fans who either played it or didn't but did not smile upon it wanted to quickly shrug it off to the side and forget it ever existed. Then RE0 comes along and it's right in the opening dialogue and it's like, "....oh they consider it canon".
@ Spencer,
You think that it's sort of like the "DANGER ROOM" from X-men or MGS VR? Interesting concept considering Slant Six is using more up-to-date weapons and vehicles inside Raccoon City. The only problem with that theory, although it's very good, is that Umbrella usually uses these real outbreaks to kill two birds with one stone (RE1-RE3:NEMESIS). Example: Outbreak occurred in Arklay Research Facility so in order to cut their losses they send in S.T.A.R.S. to be used for combat data report. Example 2: Outbreak occurred in Raccoon City after a near botch attempt at retrieving the G-Virus so they decided to take advantage and get B.O.W. data on U.B.C.S. members.
However, given the technology the U.S.S. members are using, and as I said before with the vehicles and weapons, it does raises eyebrows so you could be onto something there.
I mean I like the idea and I would in some way rather have that it be a simulation or some sort of training concept for the U.S.S. but it does raises questions. Hell, them being in Raccoon City raises questions in the first place. Either way, questions are raised and confusion of shifting through this plot nightmare will ensure. It would be a hell of a lot easier if they did go, "Congrats trainees, you have qualified for U.S.S. training" but knowing Capcom... well.... I guess we'll all know in four months.

Operation Raccoon City being a VR simulation would make too much sense for Slant Six.PROJECT Umbrella - The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium

Kinda late to this thread, but that old saying.....
I saw that 20-min Gamespot footage and thought I'd express my thoughts on the game.
Now first off, the previewers were either paid to keep their mouths shut, or are just dumb s*ytes who are counterfeit gamers.
Onto the game itself, I'll start by saying the graphics are adequate and the controls/gun-play seems solid enough. The latter statement cannot be said for the AI though.... Zombies seem fine enough, but you gotta be a pretty s*yte programmer to not be able to code AI for Zombies. The worst offenders in the AI department is obviously the human opposition, but why in the hell are we fighting against so many humans anyway?... From early previews/trailers of the game, I was under the impression that the only other humans you'd be fighting were squads of other players, like 2 or more squads of players would be deployed on a map with objectives and all the teams would be working to complete their objectives whether it be "get from point A to point B", "retrieve this sample", "destroy this evidence", "neutralise the other team" and so on whilst clashing with each other at points either intentionally or not.
One can only hope that levels focused on taking out human opposition are rare, it was sodding bad enough fighting Ganado's/Majini in RE4/5 respectively that had AK-47's, but this..... This takes the absolute piss....... Why would any casual gamer (being Capcom's obvious target market since RE4) play this when they can just get Battlefield and/or COD?
Resident Evil truly has lost it's niche.
